Unlike his rankings for the offense where only one player, Tom Nalen ranked among his top ten at a position (and Nalen himself was ranked 10th among centers), Judge ranks Champ the 2nd best corner, Al the 3rd best Middle linebacker and DJ the 8th best outside linebacker.

Yeah someone should refer matir uh gahn or whatever the hell his name is to this article. I do not believe all the so called experts write but even this idiot Clark JUdge said DJ made the list because of how well he played in his first year.

Leaving Wiegmann off the centers list was a crime.

u know the eagles are good in the defensive backfield when 3 of the 4 are on the list. Thats just nuts to have that kinda talent on 1 team

Man, there are not many good DL players in the NFL right now. This guy is propping up Berry like he has done something. Pryce is not even on the list.

They are either good or really, really overrated on defense.

i think that is probably why they left trevor out of the list of top 10 DEs as well.

Yeah it took me a second to realize this one wasnt written by Prisco... he doesnt mind injuries. Of course this Judge guy let Petersen slide.

What shocked me more than the lack of Pryce was a lack of Lynch... and just for you SoCal, I was kinda surprised Gold didnt make it either.

PS. Chris McAllister better than Champ is solid bull****.

oops, my bad Reverend, I didnt even notice it was Clark Judge, i assumed it was Prisco cause it was CBS Sportsline. Gotta change the title.

I too was surprised that Gold didnt make it, but then i realized this was a list of the top 10 OLBs not the bottom 10. Nyah!

Putting Nalen at 10th one year removed from being 1st Team All Pro was a crime.

Where's Vilma? Surely the DROY should make the Top 10 ILB list.

Pretty solid rankings. I would say this guy knows more than the average ink-stained media wretch.

Popped this thread open again only because I saw you posted in here. Thanks for making that worth my time, unfortunately "you must spread some rep around before giving it to -Slap- again"

Vilmas a smart player but I dont think hell be a great one. DJ will be great. Great minds can see this.

In case I havent mentioned it in a while. Bob is a ****ing idiot. Thanks.

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but I'm interested to hear you argue this position more specifically.

8. D.J. Williams, Broncos He makes the list after only one season, and that's because of how well he played in his first season -- with 114 tackles, two sacks, an interception and six passes deflected. He's a sure tackler, solid in coverage and, along with teammate Al Wilson, the backbone of a defense that needs help from its front four
.

Once again, I hate our drafts.

Athleticism... I think DJ was the #1 raw athlete in the draft last year. Vilma played incredibly well and put up some pretty damn good numbers, but I think a lot of that had to a lack of playmakers around him in the LB core, and a natural intelligence for the game.

DJ, god bless him, has even admitted that Vilma is a smarter player... that he watch film and digest anything immediately. I think the pro game slowed down for Vilma quicker, but I think DJ hit that point in Dec (remember the wrecking crew he was that month?), and whether hes playing Will or Sam, will be an impact force to be reckoned with (Solo tackle stat, or not)

Vilma was also playing behind three DL that would probably start in almost any other team in two DEs that excel in the pass rush/against the run in John Abraham, Shaun Ellis and a behemoth at DT in Jason Ferguson. Yes, he played very well but it's one thing playing behind probowlers and another playing behind Denver's DL.

Clark Judge has five Ravens on his list, which includes a complete unknown at safety in Will Demps.

And, as someone already mentioned, no Vilma. Perhaps Judge thinks Vilma will struggle in his second season but there is no reason for him to put Will Demps up at #10 for top safetys (and no, I don't think Lynch deserves to be there either).

Vilma is another one of those linebackers who want to play the position like a running back, dodging blockers to make their tackles. I prefer linebackers who can also stack and shed when the situation dictates.

So do I but that's not the name of the game anymore. You'll be hard pressed to find many backers that can shed blocks effectively, especially considering how big OL have gotten and how modern defense desire speed above all else.

Even the supposed best ILB in Ray Ray gets schooled when a relatively lightweight T like Lepsis gets a hold of him.

Old School LBs would have NEVER been allowed on the footbal field if they couldn't read plays(have a good first step), shed blocks effectively(albeit against smaller OL compared to today), and make tackles properly instead of missing tackles. In today's game you see teams like the Saints, Chefs have a dozen or so missed tackles a game, and that's just from the LB unit.

Missing tackles bugs the hell out of me though, even if it's by someone other than a Bronco. I can understand how defenses tend to handle their starters with kid gloves during camp to prevent injury hence a lot of LBs never really "learn" the position's fundamentals properly and go out and rely on their physical skills/speed during the season. That's why a RB going for a buck in a game used to mean something, whereas now a 3rd string RB can top the 100 yard mark if given enough carries with a decent OL since most teams' LB will help him along the way. It's a dilution of the game and one that the NFL has no problem with given their skewed love for more, and more offense.
