I remember the story of a Raider player (Lester Hayes, maybe?) selling his ring. He was in some podunk town and became severely ill and needed the cash for medical treatment. Once he got better, he blew town and either forgot to go back for it or figured it was gone. Years later, it shows up on Ebay. If I'm not mistaken, Raider fans won the auction and returned the ring to him. This was a couple of years back, so my memory's admittedly fuzzy on the whole ordeal...

The seller's name has Pawn Shop in the title.

He may not know why the ring was sold/pawned.

On a side note, I remember about 4-5 yrs ago, Derrick Loville's SB ring was on Ebay as well. Could you imagine parting with THAT?

Tre,

The nerdy handholding ended prior to '77 thankfully.

The handholding was a Ray May thing that he brought from his time in Baltimore.

Thankfully it went out with Ralston at the end of '76.

Oh yeah. Now that you remind me, that picture was from the season they lost to Oakland in the last game of the season (?) and missed the playoffs. I think. -- But you will know. A friend of mine got all liquored up during that game and wanted to go to Stapleton and kick Biletnikov's ass.

Well I'm going to give him a call and try to work something out to get it back to him. He said he wants it via the email response to Bronx 33. If that's the case yes I want to get it back in his hands. Perhaps when his troubles are over he can purchase it back for an amount he can afford or we can work out a trade. His website says he does advertising stuff and in my business I already budget money for that anyway.

The reality is there are several days left in the auction. Anything can happen.

hmm Mensch? Thanks I think? :saywhat:

Yeah I admit this is all pretty weird. Infact like I told a couple of you via pm my hands were sweating as the auction was closing.

Now that I control the fate of the ring instead of some professional ring seller on ebay (trust me there are alot of them) I'm sure there will be a way to get this ring to Bucky sooner than later. Like I said I need to talk to him again. Honestly things happened so fast today and I wasn't sure I would even get it and never really had time to plan the next step.

As much as I just want to hand it right back to him I can't afford to suck up the entire cost of the ring on my own. Maybe someone from the Broncos organization will step up and help him offset the cost and I will do the same. What sucks is I'm sure the pawn shop didnt' give him very much for it in the first place.

Thanks for support guys and all have to say is.............

There's no good English equivalent, but...

mensch — A person having admirable characteristics, such as fortitude and firmness of purpose: “He radiates the kind of fundamental decency that has a name in Yiddish; he's a mensch” (James Atlas).
[Yiddish, human being, mensch, from Middle High German, human being, from Old High German mennisco. See man-1 in Indo-European Roots.]
