Hi there.

I'm what you'd call a "casual gamer." I generally just play one game at a time, and when I beat it, sell it on eBay and find a new game.

I just sold Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory on eBay after beating it, and am in search for a new game. Any suggestions? Can be brand new or something out for a while. Not looking for any sports games right now (waiting for Madden 2006) and Halo 2 is no good without X-Box Live, which I don't have, and don't see myself buying anytime soon.

I could go the GTA route, but I played so much of it on my roomate's PS2, I don't know if I can bring myself to plunk down $50 for it right now.

Anyways, fire away. I need a new game.

star wars: knights of the old republic

GREAT game, im not really into games like this -- but the storyline was AWESOME. the beginning goes a little slow, and it takes a level or two to get used to the fighting -- but it really is an awesome game.

Is that the new one that just came out?

I've never been much for Star Wars, but it does look cool.

no, the newer one (about 4 months ago) was part II. it was made by a different company and not as good.

and trust me, im not much for star wars either -- this games story was just THAT good. (and the good part is you can play it over-and-over multiple times and it will be a different game)

Reminds me of Jim Belushi in that SNL sketch as the chess coach...

"Pawn to Rook 4! Pawn to Rook 4! Nooooooo!! Get up, get up, get up!! [ starts kicking chairs around ]

You call that castling?! Come on! Why don't you just give him the king?! Give it to him! "

ah the classics!

Play the old one first. There is crucial back story... And I don't know how anyone could play that game and not get into Star Wars... It's a great story line...

Ok bro. I admit it, I did not finish KOTOR due to lack of time. I had just started a new mission on a foreign moon after our vehicle crashed... Should I go back and start over? Was I even remotely close to finishing?

The reason I ask is because even as we speak, I finally have a copy of KOTOR II loaded up and ready to go but I dont want to get lost. Thoughts?

You had maybe 30% of the game left, finish it. I'm sure there is some sort of unwritten nerd law that says you can't play sequels without finishing the previous games.

Hmmm... In both stories a vehicle crashes on a foriegn moon... In the first one, you are close to the end... Probably the second one too.

I'd finish KOTOR if you haven't...

There is enough story in the first one that I wouldn't want to play the second one without having gone through the first...

If your buying a game Destroy all Humans is coming out the 21st. Looks kinda like a GTA w/an alien twist. I wasn't a big fan of KOTR, I bought it the day it came out and exchanged it for Serious Sam, lol... I just can't get into RPG's on a console. Despite my opinion it was considered the game of the year for 2004 so if you like rpg's give it a try...For Star wars fans I've heard that Lego star wars is a kick in the pants, not sure but it's interesting. Right now I'm playing Doom 3 and NBA Street Vol 3, both decent.

CIvilization is the greatest, most addicting video game series of all time. Civ IV is scheduled for release on 11/01. Hopefully they'll stick to that date.

Jens suggested FABLE. Great game even though they supposedly gutted half of the game just before it was sold to the public. You should easily get that for $20 since it's been out for awhile. But it's a great RPG with a semi open concept. Suggestion, take all the side quests.

Jade Empire falls in a similar category. Another great game worth hours of gameplay.

For Star Wars games I really liked Republic Commando. Great FPS game.

AREA-51 is another sharp FPS but you may have to wait awhile before it goes down in price. And if you find it in a bargain bin somewhere buy Raze's Hell, it's one farked up game.

Chronicles of Riddick - This is one of the best games on Xbox to date (You HAVE to pick it up if you don't have it!)

Oddworld Stranger's Wrath - This is also a great game, but it wasn't marketed well. Check it out

Jade Empire

Fable

I bought both of these games and I gotta tell you, other than the story, the game sucks. The story IS fantastic but the gameplay is horrendous in every aspect of the term gameplay. KOTOR II's story was great right up until the end at which point I just wanted to break the whole damn thing. The backstory is really the only reason to bother with that game at all.

If you REALLY want a Star Wars game, the Jedi Knight series is probably the best. Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy are stellar jedi based shooter/slasher games.

Fable is great, Chronicles of Riddick is OK, both Halo's are fantastic though the story in the second leaves a lot to be desired.

Then of course there is Madden< Battlefield Vietnam, Deus Ex: Invisible War (though I found it much easier than the first one I played on the PC).

I think the story line was great but it is an RPG game and it has its limits in the fighting aspects of the game. I just don't enjoy not being able to really control if I kick their a$$ or not.

Ummm... No...

KOTOR is at heart a *role playing game*; if you buy it expecting a shooter or action game - well, you will be disappointed. The original won 'game of the year' from many outlets (gamespot.com, xbox magazine, etc. - assuming my memory serves). It is a a fabulous game IF you like RPGs.

If you want an action game, you MUST get Ninja Gaiden. I think this is the best Xbox game if you want action, action, and more action. It is not an easy game, though, and can frustrate. Halo is great, Halo 2 is better. Fable is a good game, more action than RPG. You already finished Chaos Theory, so I can't suggest that - it is a great game. Republic Commando is fun, but kind of short.

Riddick is a really good first person shooter game with some stealth elements thrown in. And the graphics rule.

I love RPGs more than any other type of game and KOTOR sucks as a RPG. The story is great, one of the best stories of any game I have ever played, but the gameplay itself is dull and boring and I find myself pushing one button to do everydamn thing.

Ninja Gaiden is pretty good, but I disagree that its the best XBox game for action. Ghost Recon, Halo, Battlefield Vietnam are all more intense IMO.

Well, I do remember KOTOR being a bit slow action wise for my tastes considering all the FPS games out there. However, the story was/is keeping me compelled enough to continue on. I've been told that KOTOR is very similar to Neverwinter Nights and Baldur's Gate series.

Personally, I'm pretty old school with RPG's. I think the last real series of RPG's that I got into was the old Ultima series back in the day. Hell, I can still remember having to partition my drive to play Ultima VII on my PC and having to install it for nearly an hour because it had so many floppy disks... Ugh!

Ultima VII was the last one I played.

I loved the old Bard's Tale series, and Might and Magic (before Heroes) and the Dragon Warrior series on the old skool Nintendo.

Man, I wish RPGs got back to that. Just clean the graphics up but keep the format's the same. Dammit, they always try to fix what aint broke.

Ultima VII was a fantastic game and a real breakthrough. I remember being able to be a bad Avatar and killing everyone besides that damned head of the Fellowship if I wanted to. There was nothing more fun than watching the guards chase after me after killing some innocent baker or townsmen. Especially when I had black rock armour and weapons muahahahaa! That type of open ended play was great stuff. KOTOR has a similar feel but sometimes not as grand a scale as Ultima VII at times.

Speaking of the Ultima series, you are lucky you never played VIII or that garbage-fest IX. They were both terrible. IX was about the single buggiest and most terrible storyline in the entire series. Its no wonder it killed the series, and it was no coincedence that EA games owned and released the game after buying the rights to the Origion games.

I never tried Ultima Online either. I was never much for those MMORPG's.

No, you said 'it sucks'. You didn't say 'I think it sucks'. You are entitled to your opinion. I recommend the original poster look at reviews at places such as gamespot.com, gamerankings.com, or the official xbox magazine to get a wide variety of opinions. You won't get many that are quite as 'insightful' as the one provided by AlecRaenos; it was generally considered a great game.

If I said it sucks, that is an opinion on my view of the game dickwad. I dont have to add the monniker "I think" because it is implied. It sucks, in itself, is an opinion unless Im talking about a whore or a vaccuum.

So, FPS games are not action games? Dumbass, action games imply that there is a lot of action and you dont get anymore action than FPS games. Ghost Recon is just fantastic on any system you play it on and Battlefield Vietnam is truly uncensored and you just feel like the VC are right there on your ass. Great game.
