John Mobley picked at 15 from Kutztown. Reggie Brown picked at 17 by Detroit. Ray Lewis picked # 26 by Baltimore. The third LB picked that round.

They would have won had they tied the game. Miami had one loss already and they would have had less wins then NU.

NU would have been 12-0-1 while Miami would have been 10-1-1. NU would have won the NC that year according to most people had they kicked the extra point.

I doubt then number 5 Miami jumps NU to become ranked ahead of NU after not being able to beat them. NU was number one the whole year and only dropped one place after lossing that game. A tie wouldn't have affected them at all.

They would have won had they tied the game. Miami had one loss already and they would have had less wins then NU.A common misconception is that Nebraska would have automatically won the national title had they just kicked the extra point and tied the game.

The problem with that is there was still 48 seconds left on the clock, Miami had two timeouts left, Kosar had been throwing the ball at will on Nebraska most of the game, and Miami kicker Jeff Davis had already kicked a huge, final play game winning field goal against FSU that year. If Nebraska kicks the extra point that game was still far from over. Instead they missed the 2-point conversion and Miami kneeled on the ball as the Cornhuskers had no timeouts left.

But still, I'll go ahead and say, what if Jimmy Johnson had kicked the extra point to tie Notre Dame at 31 in 1988 instead of go for two?

What if Bobby Bowden would of tied it against Flordia in 96? The gators killed FSU in the Sugar Bowl that year.

Yep. That 1988 team was lights out. That was clearly the best team in America not Notre Dame. When your at home, you need the opposing coach to take an unnecessary risk and get the benefit of a bad call and still win by only 1 point, no one can reasonably say they are national champions. Weak. That 88 team was better than some of the national title teams. Not as good as 86 or 01 though.

Tied what? FSU won the final regular season game 24-21 and then as you say got blown out in New Orleans. There was no decision by Bowden in the regular season game, they won by 3. If that game had been a tie, Florida State and Florida still would have been matched up in the Sugar Bowl, but this time with Florida ranked No. 2 (instead of No. 3) and Florida State ranked no. 3 or no. 4 (instead of No. 1). Since Arizona State (who would then be No. 1) lost, Florida would have still ended up National Champion by clobbering Florida State.

Its sometimes kinda weird cause the best team is not always the national champion. I'll concede that Nebraska in 1983 was the best team in the nation, regardless of whether Miami outplayed them that night in the Orange Bowl. By the same token, Miami was clearly the best team in 1986 even though Vinny Testaverde successfully threw away the Fiesta Bowl.

So where does the tie come in that you were talking about? The only way a tie could occur was in the last regular season game that finished 24-21 and even there i dont get the whole "what if Bowden went for a tie" he won by 3, there was no tie situation.

Penn State and Shane Conlan.

I dont think you will ever find even a Penn State fan who can honestly say that they were better than Miami. There is a reason why they lost the yardage battle by over 200 yards.

The tie dips is thinking about was in 1994 when FSU had an incredible comeback against the Gators to make it a 31-31 final score. The Noles were losing 31-3 at the start of the fourth quarter. That game didn't have any national title implications; Nebraska, Penn State, Colorado, and Miami were the clear top teams of that season.

What if Marty stuck with Gannon instead of going back to Garbac in the '97 playoffs?

You know what, it wouldn't have mattered. We are talking about the Chiefs, who have lost every playoff home game in a season where they went undefeated at home. They are 0-4 in those games.

What if Mark Jackson drops the TD pass in Cleveland in 86??

What if Byner doesn't fumble the following year?

What if The Duke would've played for a coach with half a brain and a pair of balls throughout the 80's and early 90's?

What if the Chicago Bulls had called "tails" in 1979?

They would have gotten the first pick in the draft, which would have been Magic Johnson. But instead the New Orleans Jazz got the first pick in the draft, and had to hand it over to the Lakers. Showtime might not have ever happened if the Bulls had called "tails". They may not have put enough talent around Magic to make things work like the Lakers did.

He didn't catch the ball, the ball caught him. I think it got stuck in his ribs.

What if Webster Slaughter made the block on the guy who forced the fumble? Byner would have never fumbled.

If Elway had been in the right system he would have more rings and he would have all of Marino's records.
