Tropical storm Arlene has formed in Caribbean and is headed for the Gulf Coast (central states). I don't think many of these storms this time of year actually develop into hurricanes but who knows after last year.
Just announced on CNBC evacuations have started on numerous oil and gas platforms throughout the Gulf. So now we'll probably see gas go up because of it.

MIAMI - Tropical Storm Arlene developed Thursday in the northwest Caribbean Sea, edging closer to western Cuba as the Atlantic hurricane season's first named storm. Gulf Coast residents, including those in storm-battered Florida, were warned to beware.

Arlene had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph after strengthening from a tropical depression that formed Wednesday, the
National Hurricane Center in Miami said. Tropical storms have top sustained winds of 39 mph to 74 mph.
At 11 a.m. EDT, the storm's center was about 165 miles south-southeast of the western tip of Cuba. It was moving north at about 8 mph, and this motion could bring the storm's center near western Cuba as early as Thursday night, forecasters said.
The large storm's winds and rain extended 150 miles to the north and east from its poorly organized center, meaning parts of the Florida Keys could start getting rain later Thursday, forecasters said.
Arlene was expected to enter the Gulf of Mexico by Friday, and residents from Florida to Louisiana were told to keep an eye on the tropical storm.
"Our best estimate of the track possibilities are that anywhere from Louisiana to the Florida Panhandle could expect the center to be approaching them by the middle of the weekend," hurricane specialist Richard Knabb said.
Forecasters said Arlene was likely to remain a tropical storm, but Navy meteorologist Lt. Dave Roberts said there was an "outside shot" that the system could develop into a weak hurricane, depending on atmospheric conditions.

The Cuban government has issued a tropical storm watch for the western province of Pinar Del Rio to the capital of Havana. A tropical storm warning also was in effect for the Cayman Islands and the Dry Tortugas island grouping, U.S. territory about 70 miles west of Key West.
The depression was causing heavy rain and squalls across the Caymans and western and central Cuba. Forecasters warned that very heavy rain in Nicaragua and Honduras could cause flash floods and mudslides.
The storm could drop as much as 5 to 10 inches of rain, meteorologists said.
Last year, the first named storm of the season was Tropical Storm Alex, which formed Aug. 1. It later became a hurricane and came within 9 miles of the Outer Banks, N.C.
Within weeks, Florida was struck by Hurricane Charley, the first of four hurricanes to hit the state last season. It was followed by hurricanes Frances, Ivan and Jeanne. The four hurricanes damaged one out of every five homes in Florida.
The storms caused about 130 deaths in the U.S. and are blamed for a total $22 billion in insured damage.
Hurricane season began June 1 and ends Nov. 30.

Didn't they predict another bad hurricane season this year? (Thought I'd heard that somwhere.)
New Englanders won't have to worry for a while....the ocean water is too damn cold for the hurricanes to reach this far.

This wasn't a wife, or I would of sued. My ex-took me for way more than that. This was just a thief. I found her a house, arranged the financing, bought the entire furnishings, the house is worth well over 30k more than I arranged for her, I got her subsidization of payment thru HUD and a special rate. Hell, it's a 120K house fully furnished that she has a payment of 278.
Then she locks the door, changes the locks, steals 1000 under my stereo and throws everything on the front porch after I stormed off for a couple days. She totally vanishes and changes the locks. I couldn't believe it. All because she "thought" she had a new boyfriend. Yeah I'm bitter, at least let me get my stuff. I had a nice camper she and her thief threw some of my stuff in. Of course, she never found the thousand dollars under the stereo, yet the stereo appeared in my camper. Unreal. Of course, the camper was never sold and money sent to me either.
It boggles my mind. This will be the first and last time I even discuss it because I get so mad. It's embarrasing. What was I supposed to do, lop her head off?

Well, looks like this could be the first hurricane after all. 60 mph winds right now and predicted to get stronger. Anyone in the way of this one?

Arlene Soaks Florida, Gathering Strength
By BILL KACZOR, Associated Press Writer 1 hour, 2 minutes ago
PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla. - A strengthening Tropical Storm Arlene soaked parts of Florida as its center moved toward the northern Gulf Coast, stirring memories of last year's devastating hurricane season.

Forecasters said Arlene, the Atlantic hurricane season's first named tropical storm, could become a weak hurricane before making landfall in the Deep South late Saturday, with the worst weather arriving east of the storm's center.
Arlene was then expected to move along the Mississippi-Alabama line, possibly reaching Tennessee by Sunday afternoon.
Tropical storm warnings and hurricane watches were posted from Florida to Louisiana, as Arlene's top sustained winds reached 60 mph, up from 45 mph earlier in the day. The wind speed was likely to increase, but forecasters said the biggest impact would be heavy rain.
Residents in flood-prone areas along the Gulf Coast were urged to move to higher ground. In the vulnerable marshes south of New Orleans, bulldozers were moved into place in case water from a storm surge breaks through a levee.
In Pensacola Beach, where many residents are still living in government trailers because of damage from last year's Hurricane Ivan, residents eyed the forecast warily.
Margie Wassner, 57, said she planned to ride out Arlene with friends inland in Pensacola.
"It's pretty scary to me. I just kept hoping that we wouldn't have anything, but I don't know. It's awfully early in the year to be having this," she said.
Jeff Jackson, a real estate agent in Gulf Shores, Ala., worried that Arlene's rain could undo some of the beach erosion repairs under way in his town since February.
"Coming so close to Ivan, it's got people a little edgy," he said.
Arlene passed Cuba's westernmost tip early Friday, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds and rough seas to the region. A Russian exchange student died after being pulled from the rolling waves off Miami Beach early Friday, officials said.
At 5 p.m. EDT, Arlene's poorly defined center was about 345 miles south-southeast of Pensacola. The storm was moving north at about 17 mph, the
National Hurricane Center said. Wind and rain extended 150 miles to the north and east from the storm's center.
The Florida Panhandle was battered last year by Ivan, one of the four hurricanes to strike the state within a few weeks. Florida was also struck by Charley, Frances and Jeanne, and together the four storms caused about 130 deaths in the United States and were blamed for $22 billion in insured damage.
Hurricane season began June 1 and ends Nov. 30.

PENSACOLA BEACH, Fla. - Heavy rain drenched the Florida Panhandle early Saturday as Tropical Storm Arlene plodded toward the northern Gulf Coast, leaving weather-weary residents under a hurricane warning.
The warning stretched from Pascagoula, Miss., to Destin in the western Florida Panhandle, and inland communities also braced for a hit. By early Saturday sustained winds of 46 mph — with one gust of 69 mph — were recorded near Apalachicola, Fla., on the Panhandle's southern tip.
At 8 a.m. EDT, the storm was becoming somewhat less organized and was 105 miles south-southeast of Mobile, Ala., meandering toward the north-northwest at 15 mph. But forecasters said Arlene could build into a Category 1 storm by landfall, with its heaviest winds and rains east of the storm's center.
"This motion should bring the center of Arlene near or over the northern Gulf Coast later today or tonight," Jack Beven, a specialist with the
National Hurricane Center, said early Saturday.
Hurricane conditions exist when a storm has sustained winds of at least 74 mph or dangerously high water or both. Arlene had sustained winds of 70 mph, with higher gusts.
