"...Kellen Winslow Sr., who drove his son to the event and escorted him into the hotel, initially said he would not comment, either. However, a few hours later, the Hall of Famer changed his mind.

The former San Diego Chargers star angrily accused the media of turning the younger Winslow's accident and recovery into a spectacle.

'I'm disappointed in the way you guys have handled it. Twenty-one-year-old people make mistakes,' he said. 'He made a mistake. You made it a circus. Remember when you were 21? A human being at 21 makes mistakes. He's not a piece of property.'"

Jeez Kellen...isn't "the property" about the only thing you "own" these days? Junior keeps being an idiot, but he's always got his dad to defend his actions. What is he? 12? Why doesn't senior just admit the kid had his head up his keyster?

Yea, i remember when i was 21. it was worlds different than when i was 18 but i still knew right from wrong. and in a sense he is a ' Piece of Property ' as he is obligated by a signed contract to stay off motorcycles. a team puts a lot of money into a player and therefore they will do whatever it takes to insure their product. now this says two things about kellen jr's character. 1) he doesnt know how to read and couldnt understand what the contract meant. but as a UM alum i find it hard to believe he cant read. 2) he felt he was above the law of his contract and wanted to buck the system anyway. i find option number 2 more believable so no one is to blame but Kellen himself.

KWII must have missed the concept. The Browns make him a millionnaire and his life becomes their property for a while. What part of that is tough to grasp? So what's the breakdown on dollars per catch for his rookie season and the upcoming season?

Oh, wait. It's the media. They turned it into a circus. Well guess what? If KWII hadn't put on the big red nose and started ripping his motorcycle around the tent, there'd be no circus.

Shut up and let the Soulja speak for himself, Pops. What's the problem? You didn't raise your son to be a man?

21 year old people make mistakes. Yeah being a pro football player and jumping on a ninja or whatever kind of bike it was is not making a mistake. It is having no brains at all. Lucky these guys have to have such little brains to play football.

The Winslow family has always considered themselves above everyone else, and apparently, above any criticism. Poor Kellen. He was all ready to use his son's career to get in front of a few microphones and make himself relevant again. Scratch that plan right off the drawing board.

KW1 came off like Al Cowling.

It was almost comedic.

An NFL team and it's fans should expect their players to use their heads. They are paying them millions for the use of their bodies. It is their responsibility to keep those bodies in the best shape possible.

And yes he is just 21 years old and 21 year olds make young foolish mistakes. But most 21 year old people are not handed millions in their first job. When you take the cash you give up the right to make those young mistakes. Plus there are mistakes you make in youth and then there is just pure stupid actions. This was a pure stupid action.

Sounds exactly like the Bonds family to me as well.

I don't know man...sounds to me like a good Dad to me. I also happen to agree with Dad too.....it has been made a circus.

Yeah, he's a great dad. He tells everyone that a 21 year old made a mistake and that's fine. Too bad he didn't give his dumb 21 year old some good advice, like honoring the terms of his contract or not putting his body at risk, since its his livelihood.

Nope, good old dad would rather blame the mean old media.

Kellen Sr drove Kellen Jr to the motorcycle show, so you know damn well that he knew Kellen Jr bought himself a bike. He's been overbearing enough to pick Jr's school and his agents, so there's no doubt he knew about the kid's new hobby.

Oh, that evil, evil media. I curse them. I curse their children.

Yeah, I wish I had a dad like that. One that would take all the blame off of me and blame it on somebody else. Wow, if I only had a dad like that. :pity:

Either way gents...he's sticking up for his son. Would you expect him to publically dog his son?

I'd expect him to whoop his butt in public for humiliating the family.

Better yet, he should of just did what he said he was gonna do. Not say anything at all.

Good point....BUT, Kellen Sr. has been calling all of juniors shots since he was drafted. First he said WHO he didn't want to draft his kid, then he said what the contract was going to look like, then Junior held out until he got a big contract..... it's just one thing after another. It's not just this one incident and dad is making excuses for him.

On a talkshow today the host was saying that Kellen Jr. is probably the most talented young guy in the league right now. It's a shame that nobody taught Kellen how to be a man, and take advantage of his gifts. So far, Senior deserves every bit of criticism that is dished to him right now......especially since he keeps saying how junior is just a kid and shouldn't be judged any differently. No, Kellen, he's a man who is acting like daddy's baby. Whose fault is that?

It was his son's actions that created the circus, not the media. The guys from ESPN's Sports Reporters didn't hold a gun to his head, telling him to get on the bike.

The last time I saw Jr, he apologizing to the fans and vowing to return. Made him seem much more sympathetic. Of course, Sr has to come along and get everything started up again.

...and you can bet the farm, first-born & a few motorized vehicles that Winslow Sr. orchestrated the whole plea for mercy thing.

Jr. doesn't have it in him to be humble

Orchestrated. Exactly the right word. We're supposed to believe that this second-generation football royalty has a deep feeling for the fans.

BS. The guy never had to rely on the fans to make his career. KW1, through the gift of his name and legacy, and the men who were hired by daddy to shape KW2's future are the only people he's indebted to.

And I'll bet he thinks he did it mostly on his own talent.

It was pretty funny:

PRESS: How have you helped Kellen deal with his injury?

KW: How do you think? I'm his dad.

PRESS: You might have misunderstood the question. How are...

KW: I'm his dad. What do you think I would do? I his dad. It's my job.

---

KW: You are turning this into a circus.

PRESS: We turned it into a circus? How?

KW: That's a stupid question. Next question.

---

PRESS: You said we turned this into a circus. I think many of us are offended because you have put all of us under the same umbrella. I think many of us have listened to your requests for privacy.

KW: You think?

PRESS: Yeah.
