Trying to set up my new DSL service and the software from my isp isn't recognizing my ethernet card.

Do I have to enable it somehow?

I'm not home right now, just looking for some suggestions to try out when I get there.

I was fooling around with it last nite. The one thing I didnt try was a reboot with the DSL setup connected and powered up. That may be all there is to it.

Edit.. I'm still in the stone age running Windows 98

It's almost always unecessary to install the ISPs software to use their internet connection. I don't remember exactly how to do it in '98 but it's not too difficult. XP does everything automatically (just about).

Maybe this site will help..

The software won't install because it doesnt detect my LAN (Ethernet Card) it just stops and tells me I need to get one.

Edit. You said UNnecessary. So I should be able to just open an explorer window and jump right on line? The modem is synching up (stops blinking) the port where I have the network cable plugged in lights up green. Its like there shouldnt be any problem. I'll fool around with it later.

Install your ethernet card first and like I said you really don't need to install the ISPs software to use their internet connection.

Can't I just delete the thing out of device manager, reboot and Windows should detect it and reload the drivers if they got screwed up somehow? I remember having to do this to get my dial up working again one time, I deleted the dial up adapter and AOL reloaded it.

No, I have them for dial up, trying to get this Verizon DSL going though so I can dump AOL.

For all the bitching people do about AOL, I never really had much problem with them and the one time I did, I actually got someone who spoke English on the phone and got me up and running in a few minutes.

What ethernet card do you have?

Thats a big deal, because some of those brands are crap crap crap. If its a d-link, just throw the ****ing thing away and go buy a linksys.

I believe it's a PCI Network Adapter or something like that. I'm not at the computer in question right now.

I figured it wouldnt be a big deal to get going, I'm half tempted to run over to Sam's Club and get a new Presario for 550 bucks.
