Per the talking heads here @ ESPN (Mort,Clayton)
I'd rather have T.Brown just to see the look on Al's wrinkly face.
Wish I could have seen it when we signed him to an offer sheet back in the day.
Baseball season is giving me a headache.....

Receivers roll out welcome mat for Rice
By Patrick Saunders
Denver Post Staff Writer
When Jerry Rice caught seven passes for 148 yards and three touchdowns in San Francisco's 55-10 victory over the Broncos in Super Bowl XXIV, Darius Watts was 8 years old.
Monday after quarterback camp practice, the second- year Broncos receiver was asked what it would be like to be ahead of Rice on the depth chart.
"I don't know how to answer that," Watts said, before bursting into a fit of laughter. "I don't know, man. I don't know."
But Watts might know how it feels soon. Rice, who turns 43 in October, is contemplating an offer to join the Broncos. His agent, Jim Steiner, said a decision could come today. Rice likely will choose between signing with the Broncos or retiring after 20 NFL seasons.
"Jerry is flying back from Mississippi today and he's thinking about his options," Steiner said Monday. "I expect him to make a decision soon. Maybe by (today)."
Broncos coach Mike Shana- han said he talked with Steiner Monday morning, clarifying Rice would have to earn a spot on the roster and was not guaranteed to be the second or third receiver.
"Jim asked me a few questions, and some of the things I said last Friday I repeated with Jim today so there's no misunderstanding where Jerry fits in our system," Shanahan said. "When he's got an answer he'll give me a call. I told him don't be in a hurry. Whenever he makes a decision, let me know."
Meanwhile, Watts' fellow young receivers, Nate Jackson and Triandos Luke, said they would welcome the chance to play alongside Rice, the leading receiver in NFL history, even though Rice might end up taking their roster spot.
"That's football," said Jackson, who grew up in the San Francisco area as a 49ers fan. "There's always going to be competition for that spot. I would want what's best for the team, no matter what. If Jerry comes in and takes my spot, then it's probably better for the team that I'm

not here. I'm not going to shy away from competition for selfish reasons. If it's in the best interests of this organization, I'm ready to tackle whatever competition comes this way."
Jackson, who was placed on injured reserve in December with a fractured left ankle, said he's fully recovered.
"It feels great," he said.

If it takes him this long to decide whether to play or not, I don't know, I think he is scared of getting cut.

The fact that Shanahan re-emphasized the 'no guarantees' angle tells me this would be, in effect, an extended try-out.
That has to give Rice pause for thought.
Getting cut a third time in just two years just seems a hideous way for this all-time great talent to go out.
I hope he's getting good advice, but it sure doesn't sound like it.

Troy Brown has re-signed with New England. That's who we should of signed.
Someone needs to quietly tell Jerry that the gig is over. The guy is 43.

When Jerry Rice caught seven passes for 148 yards and three touchdowns in San Francisco's 55-10 victory over the Broncos in Super Bowl XXIV, Darius Watts was 8 years old.
When Jerry rice caught eight passes for 145 yards and 1 touchdown less than 150 days ago, Darius Watts was 23 years old.
If Jerry Rice would have been in the endzone instead of Darius Watts on that fateful snowy game against the Raiders, we would have won.

i also have the feeling rice will retire. Shanny keeps telling him, NO - you will not get a spot for free, which is what he wants no doubt.
I hope that if he comes, he a makes the team, but if not just dont plan on coming

It's almost like deja vu all over again. Remember back a few years ago when another San Fran legend was being lured by the Broncos to play one more season??

If not for concussions Young could have played a couple more years. All Rice will do is take up a spot that could be used for a ST guy.
I do not think Rice would make us a better team.
