Cards Release Pair of Players

The Arizona Cardinals announced Wednesday that the team has released offensive tackle L.J. Shelton and tight end Lorenzo Diamond

Wasn't Denver rumored to have some interest when he was first put on the block?

and to think that they could've tossed in a future draft pick and gotten Travis Henry, now they have nothing and released the guy.

They already picked up his ex-teammate though.

Why not take a run at Bambi Alworth while we're at it?

I'd assume that Buffalo is already in talks with him...since they were the ones trying to trade for him before the draft...

I don't know much about him. Does he play left or right tackle? I think we could still use another player for depth.

Shelton played primarily left tackle until he fell out favor last year. The two previous seasons, he played every snap.

Well, I would take him...in case Hamilton has to go over center or something like that. I bet the Bills sign him.

I bet the Vikings sign Travis Henry now that the Whizzinator is going to go south...probably...

Ontario Smith has to be nervous. I haven't gone to KFFL to see if the NFL has demanded the Whizzinator for a test.

Depends where his head is at.

Shelton, even at 350+ plus was a tremendous athlete with great footwork. However, he's spent the past couple of seasons getting lazy and out of condition because he gets too fat and for a guy his size that spells disaster.

I think Clement is the safer bet because although he's not as gifted or talented, he's less maintenance.

I think the Bills will pick him up and throw good money at him.

I'd say sign him, but I don't know where he would fit in. Unless one of these guys can play guard, then we are getting pretty full at the tackle position.

He's played some guard and he's played both tackle spots. He's 6'5", 335 pounds, a former first round pick and he's been extremely durable. Given Lepsis' contract situation I think we would be nuts to let Shelton get away if we could land him cheap.

He's a BIG man!
Not sure what's going on with him though. He was placed on IR in Dec for a knee and there is really no reason given for cutting him.

Probably roughly the same reason Pete Kendall got axed in training camp last year. Dennis Green decided he didn't like him. Shelton played every snap at LT the two years prior to Green's arrival and impressed the previous coaching staff enough that they gave him a lucrative contract extension.

Shelton has a rep for being lazy and underachieving. Green demoted him last year in training camp to try and get him motivated enough to get in shape and try harder.

Who knows, maybe getting cut will motivate him but you gotta think that he must have shown up to camp out of shape again to get that kind of treatment.

Not necessarily. Green ****canned Pete Kendall strictly for personal reasons. Denny is a excellent coach, but he does some extremely off the wall crap. He completely torpedoed the Cardinals' season last year when he benched his starting quarterback for no apparent reason.

Yes, Green does like to fill the roster with players that fall in line to what he says.

I dunno about Shelton but I'm pretty sure he was out of shape and in poor condition in last year's camp.

Denver's FO said that they were busy reviewing likely June 1st casualities and who knows with talks stalled with Saurbrain maybe they are saving that money towards Shelton. I guess we'll find out if they do try and sign him.

I'll be surprised if the broncs move on him. I don't think we will lose lepsis cause assuming Den can make him a rich man who doesn't have to worry about his kid's ability to pay for their kids, I'd think he'd want to finish here. But, even if they did, Foster can move over, and they can find a journeyman right tackle like Swayne somewhere.

I'm not sure he can hit moving linebackers well enough to play guard in Den's scheme, and at tackle he'd sit and get fatter than me.

Hell, that's all that needs to be said as that fits the bill for what Denver has targeted this offseason.

I'm not sure what Pimp Daddy was thinking...he could of gotten Travis Henry in a trade for him.

I'm just glad the HornHeads are rid of him, and Moss...now all they have to do is figure out a way to get rid of the Whizzinator. Hilarious!

i doubt Broncos chase shelton, that would make too much sense & nothing SHanny has done this offseason aside from special teams makes any real sense.

plus he'll probably get a good little salary in FA from the Bills or some OL needy team
