"Chappelle's Show" Shut Down By Charlie Amter
Wed May 4, 7:08 PM ET
Chappelle's Show is a no go, b*tch!

In a surprise announcement Wednesday, Comedy Central announced that the highly anticipated third season of Dave Chappelle's will not make its May 31 premiere date.
"Comedy Central has suspended production on the third season of Chappelle's Show until further notice," network spokesman Tony Fox said in a brief statement. "All parties are optimistic that production will resume in the near future."
No official reason was given for the shutdown, but sources told E! News that Chappelle has been MIA from the set for weeks.
In December, the network said that Chappelle's Show was behind schedule after Chappelle fell ill, forcing the network to postpone the expected February debut of new episodes.
"Dave--and his entire production crew for that matter--got a bit of a late start on writing season three," Fox told the New York Post. Production was slated to resume in January.
Last August, Chappelle, 31, reupped with Comedy Central in a massive two-year deal, valued at $50 million by the Hollywood Reporter. The deal also set a new Industry precedent--reportedly giving the funnyman a large cut of backend DVD sales.
Featuring Chappelle's often raunchy standup, offbeat sketches and killer parodies of Prince and Rick James, Chappelle's Show has steadily built a huge following since its January 2003. By the end of season two, the half-hour show was often pulling in more than 3 million viewers, a substantial number for basic cable. The first season currently ranks as the all-time top-selling TV show on DVD. (Paramount has indefinitely pushed back the release of the second season--the studio hopes to time the DVD to the start of season three.)
In addition to his gig at Comedy Central, Chappelle had been working on a book for Hyperion. No word on the book's status; there's also no word on the reported Rick James biopic for Paramount in which Chappelle would portray the late R&B wild man

He's probably feeling the pressure to match or even come close to what he did in the first two seasons. Rick James is dead, 'Lil Jon is played out, and I'd imagine coming up with another classic comic skit like Clayton Bigsby is not easy. He set the bar high for himself.

He's funny, but an asshole. Funny thing about that show. If a white guy had made half of his jokes, he would of been hanged.
Remember the frat skit where a white guy moves in and all the frat boys screw his girlfirend? Or his bragging about the size of his dick?
He would always try to "equalize" it with his "crack dude" with talcum powder all around his lips, but it was always just a joke because he overplayed the scene.
It takes alot to cancel a show on FOX. I thought he was a racist prick quite honestly. How many times did he brag about his penis? 100 times? Then he would pull out the dumbass poor black and consider it racially balanced. He would make fun of a black and consider the slate even. He considered that even money.
Evidently, he pushed the line. I would of liked to see what crap he pushed out of his rectum next, because he was occasionally funny, but for FOX to dump him, he must of gone over the line, even for FOX.

Yeah, because there's a long history in this country of white's being hanged by blacks. What a stupid comment.

well it's comedy central
and I don't mind laughing at white jokes, I can laugh at myself.
the thing with Chappelle, he isn't even all that original, most of his material, he borrowed from Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy

That's baloney. My guess is his material was so out of line they couldn't in good faith produce it. Rick James can live on in skits, that has nothing to do with it. It was a very racist show. It wasn't cancelled, it was beyond the border. The ratings were fine.
Don't even tell me the ratings were bad when they handed him millions. Now listen to me. His ratings were fine. He did something to cause them to cancel his show, period.

So its ok because a few hundred years ago blacks were mistreated so they have free reign to say whtever they want?
What a stupid comment.

What a stupid comment. The last part of the sentence "If a white guy had made half of his jokes, he would of been hanged" could have used any number of words other than hanged. That's what I was complaining about, not what blacks or whites can get away with.

Wow, I didn't know the 50's and 60's were a few hundred years ago...I know for a fact black people were being mistreated then.. if you were referencing slavery as "mistreated" then that has to be the understatement of the millenium.. Talk about stupid comments..

Thats irrelevant!
He made a point about Black people cracking on Whites and Whites can't do the same because they'll be called racist and have a bad look on them.
Atleast thats how i understood it.

The white man's burden. Can't make any black jokes. Boo hoo.
What are you crying about? I guess it bothers you when people get on your case for making racist statements.
Chappelle makes fun of every race, including blacks. That's one reason why nobody really gets on his case. Same with Chris Rock. Rock is the hardest on blacks with his jokes.

Great comment. People need to understand that legal equality didn't come around until the 1960s, not at the end of slavery. The gap has been closed by a good amount, but there still isn't totally equality. People have found ways around a lot of the laws.

I have seen Chappelle live a couple of times and he was great. Last time I saw him was at Union college (small school) about 2000 people there and my buddy was pretty banged up and started yelling "where are all the white women at?" Chappelle just stopped his routiine and said "that's what I'm talking about" It was great.

You might not like it, but that's pretty much how it is. It might not make sense, but that's how it is. Blame this country's forefathers for that.

90% of Chappelle's jokes are aimed at black people, so why is this a fuss about a few jokes that he cracksa on white guys?
Watch "killing them softly" by Dave Chappelle, hour long comedy and it's great.

Yeah I thought so too...at first I couldn't miss an episode... Now I have no idea what day it even comes on anymore... it just became repetitive to me.. The shock of his over the top raunchy jokes wore off and the skits were not funny enough to keep me coming back.

The skit that had me this last year? Or I guess it’s coming up on 2 years was the Rick James skit…man that was some funny stuff
The other stuff was “eh”, first season was better
Who cares, most of you are too sensitive. Its Chapelle's commentary on things in a comedic point of view. More 90% of the time i'm rolling on the floor laughing with my roommates.
The reason we still have racism is because people are too serious about things. They can't take a joke. They have to look at it in a color of skin point of view.

Lets face it, if white people could tell jokes about black people on t.v. it wouldnt be nearly as funny as when you tell them to your friends(white or black). I played hockey for 10 years and i sure as hell know what happens in a locker room with a whole bunch of white guys tellin jokes. no one on the team was racist but that doesnt make racist jokes not funny. Every minority gets made fun of by white people just usualy not in front of minorities. everyone makes fun of everyone exept minorities can do it on t.v. and most the time they make fun of everyone. who realy cares anyway their just jokes and shouldnt offend people. Where would comedy be without stereotypes?

Look the guy denegrates his own race by showing them as idiots. The point is he has to put one stupid skit down every show to try to tell people he ISN'T a racist, while he constantly brags about the size of his weiner.
I never said that some of his stuff isn't funny, especially Rick James, but give me a break, the guy gets by with stuff that would get whitey hung.
I'm not going to bother with this thread. Go tune to the WB channel.
