To trace running back Maurice Clarett's path to Denver, you have to go back to the previous winter. The Broncos lost two coveted free agents, defensive end Bertrand Berry and linebacker Ian Gold, that resulted in the NFL awarding two compensatory third-round draft picks to Denver this year. Berry signed with Arizona and Gold with Tampa Bay, but this offseason Gold re-signed with Denver, leaving Berry as the lone pure defection from the 2004 free-agent class. That means Berry had a direct hand in leading Clarett to Denver. Because, if Denver doesn't have the compensatory draft pick to select Clarett in Round 3, there is rampant speculation around the league Cleveland and Dallas were considering Clarett in Round 4. And the spotlight shining on Denver would be shining elsewhere.

Clarett at the end of the 3rd was a great pickup. No question in my mind.

I still think we should have used the pick on McPhereson, but I'll support Clarett now that he sports the orange and blue.

i could not agree more....adrian mcpherson will be a stud.
at the very least i wanted us to trade up in day 2 when he started to slide, he was a great value pick for new orleans.

McPherson will be carrer back up QB....if this guys truly so scary talented, he would have been taken higher....look at Phillips, he did everything except buttplug the dean on national tv and he still was a 1st rounder...McPherson=Art Schliester....

Clarett was clearly a player we were targeting, as evidenced by Bobby Turner's secret communications with Clarett. We used the VERY last pick we could to take Clarett. There's no doubt in my mind that he wasn't going to last until our pick in the 6th round.

Not a big Clarett supporter but i believe he can play the game and will be valuable to the team, on the field that is. Now if he can keep his attitude in check and show me he has grown a bit and doesnt become a head ache off the field then i will start supporting him more. I never doubted once that he can play the game. I want to like him i just cant yet.

Can we trade Clarett for Berry?

Your right, what would we want with a 14.5 sack man at RDE?

Even if we wanted it, we couldnt afford it. Putting aside the 5 million bonus which Arizona would have to absorb, i believe the base salary in each year is 5 million as well and Bert would not agree to restructure that.
Plus, Clarett will do good things for us, no need to get rid of him yet.

That's my point as well, the money.
