I love this. People are realizing Snyder for what he is: an idiot.

SNYDER NEEDS TO STEP ASIDE
The Redskins' 2005 offseason quickly has become one of the worst in the free agency era, perhaps second only to the Dolphins' disintegration of 2004.
First, receiver Laveranues Coles, whom the Redskins crowed about so deftly stealing from the Jets in 2003, forces his way out of town, despite a staggering cap hit.
In return, the 'Skins pick up receiver Santana Moss, who is staying away from the team's involuntary voluntary workouts unless and until he gets paid like the player he never really has been.
Then, second-year safety Sean Taylor decides to boycott the involuntary voluntary sessions due to his displeasure with a contract that curiously bears his signature at the bottom, and a date of less than a year ago.
Next, linebacker LaVar Arrington sounds off on the manner in which the team has handled his knee injury, chiding in the process the organization's revolving door of coaching staffs during Arrington's five seasons with the team.
Then, the 'Skins give up their first-round selection in 2006, a third-rounder in 2005, and a fourth-rounder in 2004 for the Broncos' first-round choice in 2005, the 25th overall pick. Although virtually everyone thinks that the Redskins got fleeced, the 'Skins believe that they got the better end of the deal, even though the team's 2006 first-rounder very likely will be a top five pick, if not the first overall selection.
Finally, Clinton Portis, the guy whom the Redskins acquired when they got scalped by the Broncos for cornerback Champ Bailey and a second-round pick last year is now taking up for his former "U" teammates Moss and Taylor for their decision to stay away from offseason workouts.
The difference between the Fins' free-fall of a year ago and the Redskins' experience this time around is that, for Miami, the 2004 offseason was an aberration. In D.C., the 2005 experience is the natural extension of five prior offseasons involving ownership-driven power plays that eventually petered out.
Through every bone-headed (in hindsight and, in some instances, foresight) move, there's been one common denominator.
Owner Dan Snyder.
As one league insider told us months ago, knowing what you know is far less important in this business than knowing what you don't know. Snyder, like most owners who derived their fortunes in other contexts, believes that he's smart enough to figure out the game of football. He isn't.
And like most really rich guys who wear suits all the time, Snyder surrounds himself (consciously or not) with people who say what he wants to hear.
An industry source put it best in this e-mail we received on Wednesday: The "Redskins are hopeless as long as Snyder plays what I call 'the critical owner position' and refuses to hire someone who knows what he's doing to do what [Bobby] Beathard and [Charley] Casserly used to do (which is why Gibbs won Super Bowls). Vinny [Cerrato is] almost as clueless as Dan -- maybe more so because he's supposed to know something. So they throw away next year's high No. 1 and two other picks to get No. 25 in a bad draft after losing [linebacker Antonio] Pierce, Coles, and [cornerback Fred] Smoot."
Other league insiders agree -- Snyder needs to (as Magic Johnson once said during his stint as an NBA analyst) "get out the way." Sure, the organization is making a ton of money, but it will never, ever win a championship until Snyder looks in the mirror and realizes that, when it comes to hiring coaches and picking players, he doesn't know what in the hell he's doing.

I like what I've seen of Leinhart. I'm not a real talent evaluator, but the fact he wanted to stay at USC for his senior year just because he's having fun makes me like the guy.

Can't believe what I'm about to say but here goes. Something (a gut feeling) tells me we will lose to the Skins when we play this year.

I'll go polar opposite, the Skins won't win a single game aginst the AFC West this year. Bank on it.

That I can’t agree with you on……..the Skins offense is TERRIBLE
Their defense is good, so it will probably be a 10-3 game, but I see us winning at home

Danny Snyder actually had Joe Gibbs get into a helicopter and made him schmooze season ticket holders in a meet and greet on the morning of the Draft!!!

That's just it. Their defense is good enough to shut our offense down. Then it becomes a matter of who will make a play to turn the game in their favor.

well besides Portis, they don't have much else
if anyone thinks OUR qb play is bad, check out the skins.
this isn't 2001 and we don't have SOB behind center, we'll beat the skins at home like we use to do

Anyone who lives in D.C area knows the antics of Snider. I really wish I could find some good audio clips of the local sports guys here "the sports reports" because their constant ripping of the Redskin organization is hilarious. Their basic point is Snider can’t play football during the regular season, so the off-season is HIS football season. He fires up Redskin One and fly’s across the nation throwing money at any one HE thinks is great. Pick a lane and stay in it.

Probably had him hand out that little chart they had that showed the Skins got the better end of the deal.
I hope they trade Ramsey. He's the only QB who can win games for them. Brunnell is broken down, Campbell isn't a guy I see stepping in with immediate impact. Without Ramsey they could be the worst team in football.

Joe blew on hour on the most important morning of the off season patiently answering a dozen stupid questions, including queries about Tony Stewart.

He likely brought him to the draft day meet and greet to bring some credibility to the proceedings. Much the same reason he begged him to come back and coach the team.
If you don't believe me, look at extremeskins and count how many posts and sigs you see that has "In Gibbs I Trust" or "I believe in Joe Gibbs." Somehow I don't think the fans would have quite the same faith if it weren't the coach from their glory days running the current ship.

Not to hijack the thread or change the subject, but that's an excellent point. Let's say our coach was Wade Phillips right now, would everyone be so patient with the results as of late? It's an interesting point of view.

Well that's fair and again, I don't want to hijack this. I am just saying that we are more patient with Shanny because the two Super Bowls give him credibility. In fact, I am not saying he doesn't deserver that respect, I am just saying its a funny phenomenon.

I see what you're getting at and you've got a point.
But I'll also throw out the fact that the Broncos have had but 2 losing seasons in Shanahan's tenure and one of those was when he inherited the squad from Wade Phillips. Add that to the pair of Lombardis he delivered in that same time frame and there's why he gets so much slack from me.
Anyway, back on topic, I'm really looking forward to that top 10 pick next year that Shanahan stole from the Skins.

I'm still laughing that in effect Carl and Dick traded Matt Roth for Surtain, not to hijack the thread.
But, what do you think was Joe Gibbs' end game in the trade. Did the skins really think that the 9 and 25 would be enough to get Mia to let them have Braylon Edwards OR did the really think the Auburn QB was worth gambling giving up next year's pick?

The funnest part about this was going to the Redskin message boards. After the trade they all made up their mind they were going to get one of the 2 top recievers, then a corner at 25. To them this signaled a clear victory!!!
Since the draft all tides have changed, we regularly get a "Hope denver enjoys their top 10 pick next year" to end every post.... :)

My Raiders friend says the NFL should make a new rule that all the teams be on a rotation of fleecing the Redskins. It's not fair to the rest of the league that the Broncos get to do it two years in a row.

A Redskin friend of mine sent this to me this morning in an e-mail.
"This is from www.redskins.theinsiders.com
(hardcore page)..."I was thinking about Denver this
morning to. Was shanahan's ego making a statement by
taking clarett? That he can turn any rb into a star?
And was he making a statement to Champ by selecting 3
cbs that his production wasn't what he expected? If
you have a number 1 corner, why take 3 more."
I can somwhat see their point of view on the Clarett issue but LMAO at the Champ part. What message exactly is being sent to Champ..."Hey Champ, were trying to get you some help for that other half of the field, please be patient."

The Mane poster known as Joe Gibbs was/is a decent non-Broncos poster (kind of in a Patswin vein). It's too bad his team is getting caught in this mess.

We have as good a shot as any this year, just like every year Shanny is here. He really does do a great job getting a solid team ready for when the season starts. After it is up to the players to perform, and a bit of luck injury wise.

Dan Snyder is a waste of an owner.
I've heard Jerry Jones call him a "guy who wants to win". Well thats all PR crap he's protecting Snyder with. I know guys who have been involved with marketing deals w/ the Redskins and their General description of Synder is a spoiled little brat who cares nothing about the organization. They said he was the most arrogant owner in the league. ANd thats alot to say about a person compared to a pool of billionares! He's the Donald Trump of Sports, he's using the money he made in years past to gloat about himself. I just hope denver and the skins keep doing trades, because we'll never be on the losing end with snyder at their helm.

That 8th win in 1995 was sweet... knocked the Fade out of the post season, and things were really starting to click. I had the feeling that we were ready to go bigtime in Shanny's second year.
If we could have survived that Jacksonville game... ugh...

What are you talking about?? Denver has gone 10-6 the past two years? Your not patient you are spoiled. Denver is just a couple of plays, just a couple of players away from being very good BUT you think your patient?? Christ, go be a Cardinal fan and you'll find out what patience is.

My fav game that year was Denver's first win against the Fade. The Faide was 4-1 and considered SB favs. Denver demolished them 27-0 at Mile High. One of my favorite games ever!!!!!!!
