I couldn't find a real thread, but the Nuggets and their silly unis and mascot have taken game one on the road, a team that was something like 31-3 at home.
Denver seems to have a damn tight group with K-Mart, Camby and Mello, and has some pretty tight role players. They were terribly lucky last night as both teams played horribly, except the Nuggies played good defense and San Antonio made some uncharacteristic misses, especially from Timmy Duncan, who looks a little weak off the ankle.
Considering Mello had a really weak night, Denver played really well on defense, and managed to win a game they in a basic scrub. The midget came thru with a huge basket, and it seemed like San Antonio was nervous.
I will take it, but Denver can play much better. The fact is, they have game one. Denver has a few crazy ass players that can fly all over the court and run like madmen.

After Nuggets game last night I felt better than ever about Denver basketball. I was so proud of the way they played. If they can win this series than they should have an even better matchup in the next round. Hopefully the Hou/Dal winner will beat the Suns up physically so Denver will have a good chance of making the finals.

If the nuggets beat the Spurs then the Nuggets would play the Suns in the next round because Nuggets would be the lowest seed remaining. That's if the suns get by the Grizzlies of course.

Finger Roll, the NBA do not reseed in the playoffs. The winner of the Nuggets/Spurs series will play the winner of the Sonics/Kings series.
I dont know where you got that info from.

What I saw when I watched the Nuggets last night was a team that moves possibly as well as any I have seen in a long time. Mello seemed like he was still confused by Karl's offense, but the rest of the team seems to get it.
Denver has some real athletes on the field that literally dwarfed the Spurs, and they missed alot of shots, they were lucky to win, but they did.
Denver has the best movement of any team I have watched so far in the playoffs.

i am pissed at spurs players, especially Manu, coming on radio shows guaranteeing they will win in denver. What, they are just gonna skip the next game?
how about all the media dissing us? all these, how lucky nuggets were that spurs got cold in fourth... what, were they doing layup drills? how about giving some props for our courageous defence? And what a pity that duncan hurt his ankle.... hey, say that to camby who's basically in an icebucket when not on floor.
Yeah, andre had a good game for us. but if they are counting on stopping andre, they have a rather unpleasant surprise coming. i think anthony and K-mart collectively had a poor game, and chances are they will show up next game. We will win next game. Just watch.

I watched them last night. I saw a team that could win it all but still is immature.
If Camby can stay healthy and really want it, he can match up low and K-Mart can dunk. Miller seems to have his shot down. Mello looked totally weak IMO.

You're pissed at Spurs players, its takes a lot to hate the Spurs players. Did Manu really say that?
And I dont know if you watch any of the ESPN shows or the TNT coverage of the playoffs, most or all of them have said the Nuggs have a great chance to win the series.
As a Spurs fan, this series was extremely scary and the spurs team and especially coach Pop respects the HECK out of the Nuggs.

All the teams in the West (excluding Sacramento and Seattle) could represent the Western Conference. However, I still say the Pistons are the team to beat. They are very underrated on the offensive side of the ball and we all know they can play defense. I would rather the Spurs play the Heat in the finals than the Pistons.

I'm not a basketball expert, but the Nuggets seem to be able to move the ball around like no team I have seen in awhile. If mello will get off his ass, they will win the series. Camby is crawling out of the crypt, K-Mart looks like an all star, they have the midget to push the ball around like a squrrel. Miller can hit the 3.
It's like porn, I can't define it, but I know it when I see it, and the Nuggets have it. Alot of teams are standing around, the Nuggets are moving like banshees on the floor. They are missing some dunks, layups and shots, but they are getting open looks. Their defense is very good and they are athletic.
They could easily lose this series, but Duncan's ankle looks kinda hurt. He's playing thru it, but he's got no explosion.
I expect both teams to play even better next game. The Nuggets got by with a sloppy win against a team that was 31-3 at home. If they bring it, they could easily win tommorow. If not, they will certainly extend the series and make it fun, but to me, it looks like they will take the series if Mello can simply wake up. He seems totally distracted at times.

I heard the Coach Pop giving props post game. Re: Manu, yeah, i heard him saying that on Fox sports radio on the way to work. I did not watch TNT coverage, but i watch ESPN, and all i've heard from the "experts" was Spurs in 6 or 7, even after their defeat in first round. That's cool. We'll just see. You should be scared. As a fan, i think this is going to be great series. May the best team win. I definitely like this underdog role. Too bad Chicago is taking away some of our glory little bit.

Manu is trying to give his team confidence cuz w/ the way the Spurs have been playing recently, after TD came back, they are tentative and lack confidence.
But a lot of that has to do w/ what Denver was able to do in the first game, especially Andre Miller coming off of those pick and rolls and Boykins penetrating.
TD is not going to get healthy until the season is over and the Spurs need others to step up, especially Brent Barry and TP. TP always seem to struggle w/ muscular guards like Marbury and in game 1 w/ Andre Miller.
Its going to be a long series, but Spurs have to win the next game or its going to a Mount Everest to climb to get back and the Spurs were 21-20 on the road. Not a great road record for a good team to have.
They need to shut down the driving lanes and play better pick and roll defense and make some shots.

To be honest, I was hoping that we make 6th seed because I thought we don't match up well against Spurs. They are an experienced team and know how to slow a running team down which is what we are. But nuggets showed their grits the first game, and i think it would be a fun series. The key to our success is Camby. Andre and Anthony will have their ups and downs, but Camby is one consistent inspiration. He's gotta stay healthy. We miss Eduardo. He's our energy guy who plays solid defence.

Eduardo Najera is a rugged player that is a pest down low, I remember him from his Oklahoma days and when he was on the Mavs. I was thinking the Spurs didnt match up well w/ the Nuggs cuz of these factors to me:
Andre Miller is about two to three inches taller than TP and thicker and TP, although he's a great point guard, he does often run into problems covering bigger point guards. He had problems w/ Marbury and Chauncey of the Pistons in the past.
They have three capable guys to not shut down TD, but to give him fits in Nene, K-Mart and Camby. And remember the last two played against TD in the finals and they know how he plays. TD will get his points, but if it takes 22 shots to get 17 points, that not in the TD script. He normally gets 10-15 shots attempts to get his 25, which is not a bad ratio.
Bowen does do a good job on Melo, but w/ the way Miller was shooting last nite, he had to go over and guard him in the second half.
And Earl Boykins. I first saw him play during the 96 NCAA second round against my beloved Huskies and him and Derrick Dial formed of the one best backcourts Ive seen play in the NCAAs.
The problem is when Boykins comes in, and when TP sits, Beno is guarding him. Boykins got by him almost every time last nite and Horry didnt come over on the pick and roll or in other word show longer to prevent him to drive. Beno cant guard Boykins straight up. Beno has done a great job as a rookie and is a good point, but he has problems w/ quick players.
Spurs have to make adjustments if they want to win. The key for them will be the closing minutes of each quarter. You know, the Nuggs essentially won the game when they erased that 8-point lead in 20 seconds and Miller capped it off w/ 3-point heave at the buzzer. The Nuggs did a great job at the end of each quarter to prevent the Spurs from extending the leads. Those moments at the end of each quarters were big keys to Denver's win.

I fully expect the Spurs to be firing on all cylinders in game 2. They have to. If not it's pretty much over for them. The key to game 2 should be turnovers again, and maybe it will be fast break points this time. Denver in 6.

The tough thing about being the underdog, is not only do you have to win a game on the road, but also have to win all games at home, defend home court to fullest and that is a tough thing to do when playing one of the top 2 seeds.
If there's a team that could do it, the Nuggets are it, but winning a game in San Antinio still doesnt mean much because you still have to worry about winning those 3 games at home unless they pull off 2 wins on the road.

And the alternative to being up 1-0 is what again?
I could barely watch it. Watching baskeball late is worse than Football. Duncan went stone cold and is still hurt, they missed free throws, Denver stole the game, but here is the point:
Denver is very confident, and getting more confident, they have an outstanding home record. They do exactly what they are doing and can win again on the road. Keep pushing Duncan up and down the street. That, and pray Camby can keep pushing as well. Camby looks alot heathier than Duncan to me. I think that will be the key. I saw Camby sky, and Duncan couldn't even get over the rim.
Duncan is limited to his patented short jumper. The rest of his game is really hurting. Look, you take advantage of your opponents weakness, and right now, Camby has the ability to outplay Duncan. The rest of the Nuggets just have to hit their open shots. The shots by Miller and that midget were key.

Hopefully, if the Spurs come out and win game 2, it wont be the type of game that destroys our confidence the rest of the series. However if the Nuggets win than the Spurs confidence will be shot and the excuse making will be prevelant. In that case look for the Nuggets to sweep the spurs.
