According to this web sites list, we got the #1 and 42 best guys. Two aren't on the list, but I'm intrigued with the qb we picked up.

This very well respected draft site has him #2.

The fact Browner and his agent was willing to sign with Denver after they spent 3 high picks on CB's tells me they didn't think much of those 3 guys...Typically it would be tough to land a roster spot when that many high picks are used on the same position...

Unless they fully plan on coming in as a safety they clearly were unimpressed with your CB draft picks.

What the hell are you talking about? When any KC fan tries to talk about what they "think" about other teams' moves, especially on defense, I get a look on my face like I'm staring at a butter knife flying at my face in slow-motion from a mile away.

Clearly unimpressed with the CB picks? What, 2 days after they were drafted? How can you tell?

It isn't rocket surgery Velvet...FA's try to sign with the team that has the biggest weakness at their position in order to give themselves to best chance to land a job...And if he chose a team that just spent their 3 highest picks on his position it typically wouldn't be a great place to go knowing the politics of being a high draft pick give those other guys a huge advantage.

If he is looking to make a position change then everything I said is irrelevant...You might want to mark your calendars if that is the case because that doesn't happen often. ;D

There is going to be alot of competition for the safety position.

From what i've heard these are the players who will be competing for it.

Brandon Browner
Jeremy LeSueur
Willie Middlebrooks

Plus you still have our Safeties such as:

John Lynch
Chris Young
Sam Brandon
Nick Ferguson

If Browner is moving right over to FS (which makes sense) I wouldn't be surprised if he takes the starting spot by mid-season. Lots of natural athletic talent, and FS is a position thats all about that.

How dense is everyone. Two of the three CB's were selected for SPECIAL TEAM play. Perhaps all three.

Unless "they" fully plan on coming in as a safety?

Why do you think DENVER WENT AFTER THE GUY?????!! They get great projected ST's guys and a good prospect at Safety for a bag of peanuts. Yeah, pretty unimpressive.

SO here sits the best player in FA and Denver signs him. I can see you faulting Denver for doing that. Why not try and add some good players.

Middlebrooks isn't playing safety dude. He's going to be lucky to have a roster spot if he doesn't have an awesome camp! He's a corner or goner, not a safety.

He was one of the top corners in his conference the last couple of seasons but projects to safety because he ran a 4.6 40 yard dash. I think this an example of guy playing much faster than his 40 time. I think he could make it at CB, but he'll likely move to FS.

How in the hell big is Browner actually? I've seen reports ranging from 6-3 to 6-4 and from 202lb to 230lb! Thats a hell of a difference. If he's 230 he could lose 10 pounds and maybe improve his speed and still be a monster safety.

With the barn burners we have at corner, the safety doesn't have to be the fastest guy on the team if he's smart and takes good angles, has good closing speed and the long arms this kid does. I like this one! With he and a healthy Walls back there, I don't see Jerry Porter making those jump balls in the end zone.

I am knew but thought I should comment. I had OSU Beaver season tickets. Word is Browner put on 20lbs of muscle but it slowed him down. He is an absolute steal.

I'm getting a strange feeling that this draft could be much better than we all think. I was beside myself at first, but something is different about this class.

I think that Paymah and Browner could be our future safeties, and that Williams could be a great nickle CB and return man. I don't get the same feeling from the Fox as I do from the other three but I think Williams may actually be the guy that leads us out of the interception dead zone.

All conjecture of course, but my gut is speaking to me and I haven't had a burrito in days.

And I think thats up from his playing weight at State. 20 pounds can really do something to your speed, like make it go away.

You didn't hear about the new Defensive strategy we are doing this year. Our New D is the 0-11 formation...11 DB's no linemen.

Let me say this about FOX! The same source that gave me the tip on who the 4 Denver wanted to draft in the first round, said that Fox is the one who can step in and play. Shanny was blown away that he was still there and so they took a 3rd corner becasue he had that high of a grade. The nickel spot is between Williams and Fox this year. Willie could be a goner.

Ballhawk
04-25-2005, 05:29 PM
I think that with us taking 4 DBs, we can only hope that we finally have it right and this won't continue to be a need position for the next 3 years. If this happens then it was a good draft. I think the picks are fine and think each of the 4 (Browner included) will be key contributors to this team.

The Bad picks happened last year in Shoate and LeSeur, unless LeSeur makes the move to FS and excells both picks were a waste.

People say Raiders got the steal of the draft with Antaj Hawthorne. But before the combine, a lot of drafters rated Browner higher than Hawthorne. Even after the combine, Browner was rated as a solid second rounder on most boards. I think Browner and Clarett will make the team and contribute this year. I think Browner is more athletic than Walls, and before everything is said and done, he will become a solid corner for us. Good job, Shanny.

Sam Brandon can head back to Vegas before it's done. I wouldn't be suprised to see Roc and Willie (if not 100% healthy--will he EVER be?) to be shown the door. And we know Shoate and LaSEWER suck so atleast one or both should pack their crap and get out!

I'm stoked by the UDFA pickup.. The most glaring weakness on the defense has been the lack of a ball-hawk free safety. I beleive it's the biggest reason our defense can't seem to force ANY turnovers... I ANY of the drafted (or not) corners can convert to FS I'll be happy as hell:)

sporting news draft guide had browner as a "press coverage" type. If so, that would explain a lot, since press coverage is no longer legal (nor is hitting pussy TE's) in the nfl. And, they tried Middlebrooks at safety before, and moved him back to corner.

If Roc is out, they should've made the offer to Herndon. I think it's champ, walls, middlebrooks (hope his leg's ok) roc, and 2 of the rooks, or one if LeSuer stays at corner.

I hope he and Browner compete at safety though. Actually, I'd think they both project at SS, though Browner may be a ballhawk and good tackler.

The other UDFA that I find intruiging is Chad Friehauf, only because of his 6'7" 225lb frame. I know his stats at CSM were impressive, but it is Div II. I'm wondering if he is a project to convert to WR or DB because of his size and speed (although the 54 TDs and 11 int are pretty impressive). You would think at 6'7" even Jake couldn't overthrow him (Just kidding Jake). Maybe I'm being a Colorado football :homer:, but I watched a few of the CSM games and he did not look like the typical Div II player.
