Chris Myers
G, Miami (FL)
War Room analysis
Strengths: Takes great angles to blocks, plays with balance and works hard to stay between the defender and the ball. Reaches linebackers quickly on the second level. Shows adequate range to pull around the corner. Shows adequate initial quickness and the footwork to handle double moves in pass protection. Never stops hustling, rarely makes mistakes and is dependable. Is versatile; has played center, guard and tackle. Also can snap on kicks and punts.

Weaknesses: Lacks a powerful punch, and must be more aggressive at the point of attack. Lacks lower-body strength, doesn't play with leverage and will struggle to drive massive two-gap defensive tackles off the line. Doesn't always play under in control in the open field, and has some problems sustaining blocks. Sets too high in pass protection.

Bottom line: Myers must add bulk and power and be more aggressive, but he is consistent. He is worthy of a late-round selection because of his versatility and frame.

Dan Pompei analysis
Competitive, smart, tough. Lacks great athletic talent and exceptional strength. Lacks foot quickness to excel in space. Had a nice Senior Bowl. Is at his best at center, but also is a guard prospect. No. 8 on Pompei's C

Chris Myers
OG | (6'4", 300, 5.2) | MIAMI (FLA.)

Scouts Grade: 30 Selected by: Denver Broncos
Round: 6
Pick (Overall): 26(200)

Strengths: Takes great angles to blocks, plays with adequate balance and works hard to stay between the defender and the ball. Gets up to the second level quickly, shows adequate range and is capable of pulling around the corner. Possesses adequate initial quickness and has the footwork to handle double moves in pass protection. Never takes plays off, rarely makes mistakes and is dependable. Is versatile; played OC, OG and ROT in college. Also can long snap.

Weaknesses: Doesn't play with a mean streak, doesn't deliver a powerful punch and needs be more aggressive at the point of attack. Lacks lower body strength, doesn't always play with great leverage and will struggle to drive massive two-gap defensive tackles off the line. Doesn't always play under in control in space and has some problems sustaining blocks at the second level as a result. Has below average athletic ability and size. Upside is limited. Sets too high in pass protection and quality bull rushers will have some success driving him back into the pocket.

Overall: Myers red-shirted in 2000 and he appeared in seven games in 2001. He moved into the starting lineup in 2002 and he has been a versatile fulltime starter at center, guard and right tackle since. Myers projects as a much better fit at OC or OG in the NFL but he does have good experience at ROT after being moved there due to injuries as a senior in 2004. Myers needs to add some bulk and strength. He also lacks ideal athletic ability. But despite his poor upside, he is very consistent and rarely allows his assignment to make the play. With good versatility and a frame to continue to add bulk, Myers is at least worth brining into training camp as an undrafted rookie free agent.

Strengths: Has a lot of experience...Has played every position along the offensive line at one point or another during his career...Overachiever who gets the most out of his ability...Always gives 100%.
Weaknesses: Needs to add some weight and get bigger...Lacks strength and needs to hit the weights...Not a great athlete...Limited upside...Plays too high...Not very physical and lacks a mean streak.
Notes: Will never be a star but could develop into a quality backup at the pro level...Ability to play all over is a major plus.

Is this a good pick? I have no idea but Chris Kemoeatu, the 344 pound beast from Utah was ranked higher and taken 4 picks later by...SUPRISE...Pittsburgh. At least this guy's a guard.

It's come to that.

is Jeremy Parquet available? He would be a good pickup in round 7

Yes he is.

Rascal
04-24-2005, 01:02 PM
Parquet:

Strengths: Excellent size and a massive frame...Good athleticism and nimble feet...Has long arms which aid him as a pass blocker...Powerful and does a solid job as a run blocker...Smart player who graduated in 3 1/2 years...A team leader and captain.
Weaknesses: Not as strong as you would like and needs to hit the weight room...Doesn't always play up to his physical ability...Inconsistent...Will improve in the running game as he gets stronger.
Notes: Prospect who has a rare blend of size and athleticism...Has a lot of potential as well as the drive to succeed and improve...May have the potential to play left tackle in the NFL.

I'm glad Denver finally took an OL, and from Miami to boot, but I am a little concerned about where he will fit.
It would seem he is not athletic enough to play T, but as Wabbit pointed out a while before the draft he is taller than you want in an interior lineman with Jake at QB.

Oh well, I guess I can't have everything.

Another player that can fill multiple needs. Guard and LONG SNAPPING. It gives us another position player on our 53 man roster. If we can find a way to get rid of both LEACH and HAPE, we will be styling. Maybe put more of these fast DBs in there, and get some real improvement to our Special Teams.

Plus, this guy has got the frame to Bulk up. And I think he will, maybe to atleast 315 or 320. Because, I do think Shanahan is going away from the "typical Broncos Linemen" and going toward bigger, and still athletic OLinemen.

I wonder how long the developement of this guy will take. Could he start Long Snapping next year? When could he make a real contribution on the line?

Myers has proven to be an invaluable commodity for the Hurricanes throughout his career due to his versatility. Originally recruited as an offensive guard, he has performed capably at every position on the Miami front line. Football has always been his No. 1 passion ever since he won the NFL's Punt, Pass and Kick competition as a youth.

Good point, however Leach made a lot of tackles on punt coverage last year, so he's not just another pretty face.

Myers fits the bill nicely. Smart, versatile lineman. Solid pickup in the 6th round.

I can't believe that Shazor has fallen this far. But then I can't believe that Anttaj Hawthorne went from a late 1st projection to the 6th round.

Grab Shazor in round 7 and day 2 will make this draft look much better.

rough, rough, rough. One of the assessments for Myers said he gets to the second level of blocking well. I wouldn't mind having a 344 pounder, but can he do that? And if Denver ever decides to pull a guard once in a while on a running play, how well is a 344 pounder gonna do?

You may be right, but Myers has the "frame to bulk up."

04-24-2005, 01:57 PM
I really like the pick of Myers. Should provide versitile depth on the OL, and will hopefully kick Mike Leach right off the roster, taking the long snapper job. Anyone else sick of lining a TE up as a long snapper? A real 300 pound OL should do a much better job giving our punters extra time.

I am very excited about this pick. May never be a superstar, but will be very solid. He is also the kind of guy like Nalen who is a "coach on the field"

Breck Bronc

Chris Myers never got a chance to stay at one position and really get learn it well. For some reason, Miami's offensive line coach Art Kehoe decided that when one starter got injured he would shuffle the rest of the guys around, usually with Myers the one doing the moving. I think he played every position for extended periods except left tackle. I thought he was at his best at center, then guard. Hopefully he'll get some time to gel at either guard spot and then maybe move into the lineup when Hamilton slides over to center when Nalen hangs it up.

I've met Chris's dad at a few Miami tailgates and the whole family is solid.

this is a very good selection. As Breck said Chris is a versatile player. As i noted in my "Preferred picks per round" this week, Chris is very technically sound and has great character. He is a leader and he is really smart. I will try and get his Dad from the canes board to register here and talk about Chris some and what he is thinking. Along with Clarett and Williams, this is a pick i like.

i love the Chris Meyers pick but i'm curious as to why people call him small, he's 6-4 300, unless he's playing T that's nowhere near being small

i myself am very excited about this guy & feel he could be the answer at G to replace Neil in 1-2 seasons
