In the process of hitting into a double play - thus lowering his batting average to .157 on the season - Nomar Garciaparra tore his groin today and is expected to go on the disabled list for an extended period.

Some guy in one of my roto leagues offered me Nomar straight up for Aubrey Huff last night. I declined, thankfully, but unfortunately I have him on a couple other teams already. I really want to thank him for batting .470 in the damn cactus league and seducing me into gambling on him. That worked out swell.
I wouldn't be surprised if this takes him out past the All Star break. Nomar is a slow healer anyway and these kinds of injuries usually linger all year, sometimes beyond.

I tore a groin a year and a half ago, and still feel it...

This will be the third season in the last five that Nomar misses a major chunk of the schedule.

I was suprised to hear that he told Baker that he could lower him in the order... I guess on one hand, you can look at it like he's doing what's best for the team. On the other hand, it almost appears like he's quitting on himself...
I suppose whatever you think will help the team win... Especially when your batting .163

Speaking of injuries... Did you hear about the fan at RFK who leaned over the concourse and fell from the 500 level to a 100 level ramp, tagging railings from the other concourses on the way down? YIKES!

No, damn, that sounds crazy. I assume he's in bad shape.
The classic shot is that college linebacker who almost spilled over the railing trying to grab a foul ball at a Reds game about 20 years ago. He swung all the way over and held on with one hand.

I'm not sure why, but I find this rather amusing on several levels.

In further news, Mia Hamm Garciapara was seen purchasing an assortment of "marital aids" early the next day. ;D

Now all I need is for Pedro to develop a case of shoulder tendonitis and all will be well in the world.

Fan falls from fifth level at RFK Stadium
Man flown to hospital, is listed in critical condition

A man who was at Wednesday night's Washington Nationals game is in critical condition after falling from the fifth level of RFK Stadium.
Authorities say the 35-year-old man fell from the top level to the bottom in the interior of the stadium, where fans go up and down the ramps to get to the various levels.
He hit several other ramps and railings on the way down and landed on the 100 level.
He was flown to a hospital by U.S. Park Police helicopter.
Police are investigating whether the man was intoxicated.

Just walking down the stairs from a 5th level gives me Vertigo. I have only one Phobia, and that is fear of heights. After this incident, I consider that not a phobia, but common sense. I can handle working at height, but I get kinda shakey, which is even worse.
I consider myself steel balls, but I get terribly scared if I am extreme height, to the point of freezing. I just tell myself I'm a damn pussy and noone else is scared. The worst thing you can do is freeze, and I know it. So that's really comforting. I will walk thru flaming fuel and not blink, but you put me up in the air, mock is one scared cat. Brave, but scared to hell.
This guy must really have some serious injuries. Stadiums are inherently dangerous of you decide to jump off the 5th level.

That's really tough. I hate dusty baker, and see no reason to hope the cubs finally break their curse, but too bad for nomar. I thought he might have a good year. Gonna be a long year for the rocks and dodgers. At least I have AA ball here, again, and the braves have the ex rock pitchers to watch on tv.
And I think I recall Mia Hamm saying they wanted to start a family. Suck it up, nomar and do your duty. (that didn't come out right)

Being a Twinkie fan, I just adore anything that goes against the Cubs. Still, the guy looks seriously hurt. Hopefully they can sew his balls back onto his ass. Freakin' ouch!

Nomar is a good guy, that really sucks for him, i am sure the bean-town fans are cheering, but the only reason he isn't playing for them anymore is because they screwed him. and i'm not even a nomar fan.

We didn't screw him.
We made a move to improve at the SS position and it worked. Most people wish Nomar well......in a Bledsoe-like manner.
There are people laughing at the picture because....well, it's a funny picture.

How is this? Because the Sox offered him more money than anyone else, they somehow screwed him (because he and his agent still felt it was an insult)?
Please.
This is the same guy who was front and center a few years ago pushing for the strike because he had to "look out for the future players and put food on his table". Even if every player made the league minimum, there would be no problem putting food on the table if they had half a brain. Karma is a biatch.

I'm just gratefull I don't follow baseball very closely.
Honestly some clown with a torn groin writhing on the grass doesn't really affect me.
A guy goes down, the Cubs have to compensate. Someone tell me why I should care? The guy is allready paid 10 times what he is worth, and his contract is guaranteed.
I dare anyone to give me reason one why I should give a rat's ass about this guy. The guy pulls a groin and goes out.
So freaking what!

Red Sox fans according to Nomar: "When I'm hitting, I'm Italian, when I'm slumping, I'm that greasy Mexican."

It could be worse you could sign one of the best young players in baseball to have him suck ass for you. Sometimes Beltran it shouldn't be about the money. I never in my life seen so many good talented players go to a team and suck so much.

Beltran and the Mets. He goes from a 40/40 guy to a 30/10 guy if he's lucky.

He goes from a 40/40 guy to a 30/10 guy if he's lucky. It's only the third week of the season and Beltran isn't doing that bad. .286/.343/.444 isn't what they're looking for but he'll pick it up. Base stealing isn't that important in today's game, though Beltran has freakish ability to not get caught. That 28 steal season without getting thrown out was incredible. And last year's 42 out of 45 was great as well.

Steals help alot though. Why sit there and let him wait for Piazza to move him to second or third when he can steal second and then score on a Piazza hit. The problem I have with it is they are not giving the guy a chance. He does't get caught that often so I don't see why its a risk. I know his stats will pick up but as long as Piazza is batting behind them he won't be stealing many bases.

Beltran doesnt need to steal bases anymore...especially since they have Matsui and Reyes...

His K's seem to be up and his slugging % and OBS are down more then 100 points to start off with as well. He just doesn't seem like the same guy in NY.

He just doesn't seem like the same guy in NY.It's way too early to judge and the sample sizes are too small to judge him this early. Unless you think Brian Roberts is going to continue to hit .375/.467/.766 and Clint Barmes .448/.508/.724.

Beltran, Reyes and Matsui will each miss out on a few bags this year because they don't get to run against Piazza.
