How good can he be ?
Obviously has good hands, but I don't recall a crushing or devastating block by him last year, how about you ?
I mean I like the kid, potential is there, that's said about quite a few new BRoncs this year, but do you all feel he is
a true fullback ???
Yes he has a cool TD dance !

His TD dance is ignorant and he looks ridiculous doing it,
when you get in the endzone hand the ball to the ref and act like you've been there before and you will be back again

Hopefully Shahahan has realized that his hybrid FB-RB thing doesn't work and he'll put someone like KJ back there full-time as a 6th OL like Griffith was.
I really do like the Broncos' skill position set up for the future right now.
Deep threat- Lelie
#3 WR- Watts
TE- Putz
HB- Bell
FB- Johnson
Just have to find a big WR to complement Lelie like Eddie was to Rod, and a young QB to get them the ball.

I don't know why every one is trying to ship Jake off to the retirement home so quickly. He only just turned 30, he should be entering the prime of his career and should play another 5 years, plenty of time to groom a new QB. If we draft one now, he would be a free agent by the time Jake retires.

Because, as with Pryce already, he is going to reach a point in his contract where he is not worth what he is due. Jake's a good QB who fits this offense, but he's not a franchise QB.

Me thinketh that Shanny has been too quiet about his QB situation. I believe he thinks maybe he didn't do too bad last year with the QBs selected at the end of the draft. Perhaps they are developing better than most think. You think?

Plummer has passed thatpoint with his 6mil bonus this year. he actually renegotiated it downward, to what I don't know.

Completely agree with the entire post. MA's move to FB filled a gap when it was needed to be filled but ever since Griffith left we've been aching at that position and ignoring the situation is going to help. Johnson will not make us forget HG but he'll do a more than adequate job for years to come. And he's a receiver out of the backfield too.

Kubiak has said more than once that Matt Mauck has those 'special' qualities you look for in a starting QB, and other offensive assistants have also applauded the kid.
I think you're right...the team may have it's future on the roster now...but he needs to take that next step up...and he needs to do that this year.

It's funny how most people applauded the draft pick of Matt Mauck saying he was going to be a great developmental QB. Now everyone wants to draft another developmental QB? What's up with that?

I thought Mauck looked steller at times in preseason last year. I do not care if it was against third teamers, he was throwing some strikes to the WRs and actually led his receivers perfectly.

yeah, i love dances. i thought that Joe Horn's cell phone thing was funny, too. i love it when a player does a dance. it reminds me that they are having fun. my favorite was Lelie's surfing pantomine this year. it's refreshing to see that not all players are in it just for dough.

I'm not upset he scored a TD, but I'd rather not watch him ride an imaginary horse, slapping his own ass.. last time I looked the Broncos organization was about class and all that dance is, him making an ass clown out of himself.. I can honestly say I didn't laugh at that ridiculous dance, I actually felt embarrased that he did that

I think there is a line with the TD dances. As long as it's quick, and it's not taunting, go ahead. Do it and get off the field. But I don't like the staged stuff, or stuff with props. I also didn't like seeing the Pats do the Eagles dance many times during the Super Bowl. That's a team that supposed to be all class, and a number of them were taunting. Do your little thing with your teamates, and get off the field. That's why I loved the Mile High Solute. It was quick.
Johnson's dance is quick, very funny, and it's not taunting. So I see nothing wrong with it. I hope he comes up with some new stuff for next year. Hopefully he'll be about to do it a good five times. How could anybody be mad at that?

the Mile High salute was great, but i still think that dances, when they aren't mocking, are funny and fine. i thought TO's ray lewis dance was trash. then in the postgame interviews he goes, well, remember, this is a guy who was involved with a double murder trial. no class, IMO. but Kyle's thing was funny, and so was Lelie's. they didn't hurt anybody, they were just funny.

Since the FB is seldom on the field these days with all of the 3 receiver sets, I don't consider Johnson to be a key palyer in the offense. He seems to be able to catch the ball, is fun to watch and is an OK blocker, but , splitting hairs, I would rather have a better blocker for those goal line situations.

You really need to lighten up. It's just a dance. Go with the flow, and get yo boggie on !Booya! when Kyle gets a TD. If you don't like it then don't look and let the rest of us have a good time.
I'm pretty sure he's working on his blocking skills a lot more than a TD dance. That's a silly statement. You shouldn't question his work ethic over a endzone dance.

Every time I read something like that, I'm reminded of Dan Reeves and Tommy Maddox. Elway was just about Jake's age when that fiasco went down. Yeah, Elway had alot of miles allready, but he fought for almost a full decade. Jake's the QB, win lose and draw, get used to it.

I'm pretty sure he's putting in the full amount of time on the practice field, film room, and weight room. If he was in any of those places perfecting his dance, then I could see your point. I bet he's working hard on his game so he will have more opportunities to do his dance. Looking at that dance, I'm pretty sure he's not putting too much practice time into it, if any. I've never practiced that dance, but I'm pretty sure I, and any of us, could nail it without any practice. Hell, I have. I was doing it infront of my TD when he scored a TD. It's great. You should try it.

LOL. If only it were the girls in your sig line I'd be happy, and my fiance would be upset. Its suprising to me too. I have been reading this site for years (found it in 2001, I hope Taco brings back the faider and chorf jokes on the main page, those were hilarious), but with all my Gold homerism I figured i'd be hated on this board by now. Well between that and the high schoolers that keep telling me that Spragan is no longer a Bronco because they couldn't figure out my old sig line, I figured i'd have negative rep.

Kyle Johnson has the talent to become a productive starter. He can block, catch out of the backfield and is a hard worker. Arent those the qualities you look for from a fullback.

My God, if the 2 minutes that it took him to come up with this dance took away from his work time then Shanny is busting these guys balls a little too much. Do you not think this guy is working his ass off trying to be a better player just because he does a little dance? That's just silly. I agree that a lot of the stuff goes too far, like props and taunting. But a little dance that doesn't hurt anyone? come on now. I don't know about you, but when I'm at work I like to have a little fun myself and joke around with co-workers. It doesn't take away from work, and if anything it makes the work enviroment more enjoyable for all. This little dance he does could very well be pumping up our defensive guys on the bench that are just about to get back into the game. I know I work better when I'm in a good mood. Don't see any reason these guys wouldn't play better being in a good mood.

...I think we could groom this guy for another 2 to 4 years before we need him to step into the fire for us...
Kubiak & Shanahan have to know if they have a reliable back-up/potential starter, or, as you say, they need to find someone else who can step in.
Everyone, including the Bronco hierarchy are well aware that Danny Kannell is a stop-gap, not a solution.
Plummer isn't injury prone, but history has already demonstrated that he can be hurt for a substantial period of time. So as he moves into his thirties, the need for a solid back-up becomes more urgent.
NFL teams don't spend the time grooming QBs the way it once did. A guy comes into a system for a couple of years, and organizations view the situation as; he has 'it' or he doesn't...cut & dry...even with high draft choices, although they tend to cling to the #1's longer than they probably should.
So, yes, he has to step up now & compete for that #2 slot

I still want the Broncos to draft a QB every year until they find the next great QB for this organization. I'm all for taking Adrian McPherson in the third to see if he has "it."
If teams are not relying so much on developing talent at the QB position than taking a QB every year, or at the least, every other year makes sense. You never know when you'll find the next Brett Favre or Tom Brady or Kurt Warner or Joe Montana (QB's NOT taken high in the draft, or not drafted at all).
Brady has "it" and the Pats spent very little time finding that out.
There is going to be a few guys in this year's draft that has "it." Whether those guys are taken in the first round or in the sixth round is still yet to be seen. But, they are there.

i think we should see if mcpherson has "it" too. No one can argue that he fits our system really well. And he could potentially be a great QB. We'll see what happens, but i think he is worth the chance, although i am excited to see Mauck's progress.

sounds like a good idea, but not earlier than the 3rd round. i honestly have no idea who we're drafting and i don't even know who i want to be drafted.
