PAT SUMMERALL= GOD AWFUL
he is absolutely terrible, he is always wrong w/ the players names, he's always drunk and he is so slow, he talks about a play that happened 2 plays ago...
If he is commentating I will turn the volume down on the tv and listen to the radio..

Honorable mention, Jimmy the Greek. How that guy wasn't put in a trunk is beyond my comprehension. His picks were right around 20 percent, which a damn monkey would do better.
You can throw darts on a board and hit 45 percent.(and that's assuming you miss the board once or twice)

Esiason sucks always tooting his own horn. Whenever that tool would do a bronco game and Romo would make a play he would say, "When Romo was a rookie for the niners he picked me off in the SB." An announcer who I like doing NBA games in Hot Rod Hunley. He's a character except he's usually hammered by third Q.

What was it that dumped the Greek? He screwed up as well.
So did Andy Rooney and Ditka.

Michaels is great PLUS he hates the Faiders and Al Davis so all is good where he is concerned!!
I remember in 1997 when Denver beat the Faid on Mon night 31-3 and Michaels kept railing against the Faiders saying they need to change the signiture to "A commitment to mediocrity" Hell, mediocrity was a compliment since they were heading for a 4-12 season that year. After the Game Davis went rambling in the press about Michaels bias and that he should be fired by ABC. Classic stuff!!

I forgot about Rush.
The funny thing is that he was right. McNabb totally choked in the SuperBowl.
McNabb did not choke. The Yankees choked. McNabb was very competitive, made a lot of plays, and had his team in position to do something special in the 4th quarter. True, they did not run the two minute drill effectively, but he did not choke! The Eagles were simply up against a superior opponent that day.
Right now McNabb is the second most effective QB in this league. He took his team to 4 consecutive championship games AND one super bowl. And for three of those games he had NOTHING at WR. I'd much rather have him at the helm than Plummer, I can tell you that.
And as far as wins go, McNabb is even a better QB than Peyton. If you put him in Indy's offense with Harrison, Wayne, Stokely, and Clark, his number would be WAY better.
So, Rush is a racist prick, and he was wrong.

McNabb played terrible. I guess you were watching a different game. He didn't run the two minute offense effectively? That's pretty amusing. I blame Reid more than McNabb, who was sucking air, and looked like he was hung over.

My favorite WORST announcer will always be Eric Dickerson...that one MNF game where Michaels threw it Dickerson for a sideline report in a really tight game with little time remaining & New England down by 2;
"New England has to score to win...back to you Al"
We also forget...or maybe refuse to remember that O.J. Simpson...yes he of the lopped heads...once stained the inner booth of MNF...he was so bad they yanked halfway through the season

one thing ill never forget from this past year on MNF was Madden's pregame comment before the KC-NE game on the Chiefs struggles. It was hilarious and perfect on one hand but it was totally meaningless on the other hand. Check out this gem:
".......And thats why New England is New England and Kansas City is Kansas City".

Do any of you guys remember when Bill Walsh tried his hand at announcing? I think he only lasted 1 season back when NBC still was covering games. In my heart, he will always hold the top spot as worst announcer. Man, he sucked.

wabbit, Dickerson was brutal as he made me think of Mushmouth from Fat Albert, whenever he spoke.
Your take on OJ is funny and I wish it were accurate, as he was an abomination. But OJ did make it through the entire 1985 season, with Frank Gifford and Joe Namath, before they went to the 2 man Michaels-Gifford booth in 1986.
Unfortunately, John Elway's highest passing yardage game ever, the 1985 Friday Night season finale in Seattle, is partially ruined by OJ's presence. It was OJ's last game with ABC MNF too.
OJ also did the color man thing, for a few other Broncos memorable MNF games. The highly overrated 1984 Snow Bowl against Green Bay (Broncos sucked that night and got damn lucky) and the 1985 Snowball game against the Niners. Again, OJ brings the enjoyment of the videocassettes down a bit.
I often rail on posters, who look like schmucks, because they hate every announcer ever, but in the case of Dickerson and OJ, they were right on!!

Mad props for these announcing teams:
Pat Summerall and Tom Brookshier - before Summerall got old, he was great. He told you just enough, and stayed out of the way of the telecast just enough as well. Brooky was the perfect blue collar compliment.
Merlin Olsen and Dick Enberg - the best AFC team ever.
Curt Gowdy and Al Derogaitis - Gowdy's voice just got your attention, and he was the face of AFC football, during the early formative years of the post merger. Plus he gave so much credibility to the AFL mid to late 60's telecasts.
Don Criqui & Bob Trumpy/Tasker - the most underrated ever. Spent 1970-1977 in the NFC and then swiitched to NBC thereafter. The fact that he is still working with the AFC, should tell you something. I shook hands with Criqui last summer in Canton, as he hosted the Saturday Night HOF event in the Canton Auditorium. It was a thrill to meet him.
Marv Albert with whoever - his voice just speaks to sports excitement.
Al Michaels and Frank Gifford - I think Michaels is great; don't know why anyone would dislike him. Plus he hates the ****ing Raiders. Love that about him.
I like Joe Buck and Aikman together but I don't care for Collinsworth.
I think James Brown is a stud in the NFL on Fox pregame studio! I don't put alot of stock into Studio show analysis, but if I do watch the pregame, I usually go out of Conference to do it.

Larry Merchant is a piss poor attempt at Burt Sugar. I hate Merchant, he's as punchy as most of the fighters he covers. So, solid for you to pick that guy.
Theeeseman is the worst, Paul McGwire makes him better...those two are funny when they fight like little bitches. Neither realizes that they are an idiot.
Criqui is good, I like Al Michaels...Watching Madden rip into that Turducken with his bare hand a couple of years ago was the Madden career highlight. I think Pat Summerall suffered a stroke in the booth.
Bill walton and that little bald douchebag have a special place in hell. Chick Hern will be mocking them from on high. Marv Alberts is just great...he's a biter though. Dennis Miller was funny because with out a PhD in literature or philosophy you were clueless. And it was funny as hell to look around a bar of drunken morons listening to Miller, expressions were priceless. Rush....well that's all I have to say about that...

Summerals call in Super XXXIII was the wosre announcing ever. I dont think he ever called elam by his right name.
To me Dick Emberg's call of the 1991 AFC DIVISIONAL PLAYOFF GAME against Houston is the best called game ever, I love Emberg's call when Elway hits The Vance on the 2nd 4th down. It still runs chills down my spine. To me that game is better than the drive, even though we only needed a field goal to win.

The name that popped into my head when I first saw this thread was Brent Jones.
A couple of years ago KC was playing at Arizona and they had a camera shot of the players on the bench with those cool-zone fans spraying water on them to keep cool. Here was the voice-over:
Criqui: It is definately hot here today and the players know how to keep cool.
Jones: Man, those cool-zone things are the greatest invention ever. Whoever invented those things should win a Pulitzer prize.
Criqui: A Pulitzer? What did he write the instruction manuel too?

Madden went from being one of the best in the game to being an unsightly, blimp headed, stuttering, mass of lardly nonsense. True story: last season my five year old daughter saw Madden's face on MNF and she asked me, "What happened to that man's face daddy?"
Dan Deirdorf: Pro football's version of Homer Simpson. The problem is that Deirdorf isn't funny, doesnt' have accidental strokes of genious on occasion, and Homer is much more desired by MENSA than Dan ever will be. If a stupid oaf contest were held Deirdorf would stomp Homer like a narc at a biker rally.
Chris Collinsworth: The fact that this man has a job where his face is shown and voice heard on national tv is almost enough to make a case for atheism all by itself. Why would a loving deity punish us with such an individual? Every word that comes out of his mouth sounds like a smart assed retort to a question no one asked. His football shaped face is only good for practice kicks from Sebastian Janikowski or to be focibly and violently date raped by him. I do despise the SOB.
Don Meredith: Cosell looked so good because he was sitting next to this beer swilling, coke snorting dumbass who was indeed so stupid that when he invested in the first ATM machines he lost money. The company that bought them from his company made tens of millions.
Even when I was a kid his "Turn out the light's the party's over" diddy he used to sing made me want to kick him in the nuts. He was a walking proof that even the dimmest and drunkest among us can get on tv and make good money.
