I'm hoping to be there once again this year, but last year's trip didn't work out so well for the Broncos. I don't think it was me, though. I still blame that loss on you not being there... Nnyah! ;)

Right...completely my fault... ;)

Actually I give meck a hard time about that - every trip he went on when I didn't go, we lost the game....

I would take 3 or 4 of these seats if someone else wants the others? I could put the bid in. Works out to be $137 a seat at the buy it now price.

Ok fellas we are set! I just bought them :yep:

Crusholic you have a seat.
Ak1971 You have your 4
That leaves me with 3.
Bronco8978-I got your pm. If you want one of these it's yours since you were the first to respond after AK and Crusholic. Otherwise I will keep the 3 seats. One for me, for disco, and an extra.

This is going to be sweet! I have a huge Broncos banner that will span all 8 seats. The Chiefs fans are going to love having us in their endzone. I can already see a couple orange suits cruising around and a dude in an Orange/Blue Afro. :pimp:

If more of you are planning on getting seats it would be cool to get more of you around section 110 or around there in general.

Expect to see a bright orange spot in the middle of all that red. :~ohyah!:

Oh and you just might see the Disco Man styling and profiling on tube (WOOOOOO!!!!)

Let me tell you. They love him in KC. :saywhat:

If you need anything on this end before you get to KC let me know. Remember, I live out here with these Mulletheads.......

(Maybe it was because I was trying to start my own thread when this one existed - but every time I post it goes to the big bit bucket in the sky (or someplace)...

Where is everyone else setting up shop for tailgating at KC? I've got a group planning to make the trip. They have an "Arrowhead Park" area that you can get into with RV's starting at noon the day before the game. You can also get in there the day of the game. That lot, which appears to be an "outlying" lot is $90 (but again, lets you in starting the day before). Outside of that, it's not really obvious where to go. Their normal lots say 8x16 size limits and there are referrences to large / oversize vehicles and RV's parking in the "grass" area. :hitself:

Also, other then the "Arrowhead Park" all the lots say they open 3 hours before the game (lame) although everyone says they open at 9AM. So - not clear if they only usually open at 9AM but will open at noon for the late game or if they really will open at 9AM.

We'll have one or two of our usual Lot R team there in KC (somewhere between 8 and 15 people). Who else is going? What was it like last year?

BlueDamsel - read your thread from last year on their site (there is not much traffic on their site from what I can tell). It looks like you were experienceing the same "pain" I am trying to figure this all out. For a city that talks about how great it's tailgating is - you would expect something more, but I digress.

btw - our plan is to drive out Friday afternoon and stay with friends, party saturday night at friends (unless we go to the Arrowhead park place) and then get to the stadium as early as we can (and are allowed) on Sunday.

I'm sure Meck will give you more of a detailed answer, but I do know that OF1 parked in the small RV lot next to Kauffman Stadium last year. We had a good time despite the drubbing...

Replying to myself...

Here is a link to the Arrowhead Park. http://www.kcchiefs.com/arrowhead/apark/.

This opens at Noon the day before the game. The entrance is closed at midnight until 6AM and then re-opens for game day. I'm beginning to think this is the best option. But - it would be good to hear from people who have taken RV's there in previous years.

If you tow a vehicle in - that vehicle has in/out privledges but the RV/busses, etc.. must stay. Spots are reserved, so if we did this lot we'd want to either buy ahead of time and coordinate or agree to meet on game day and enter together.

If you tow a vehicle in - that vehicle has in/out privledges but the RV/busses, etc.. must stay. .

No problem. We'll just put a tow rope on our tailgate bike and pull OF1 in. ;D

You know this overnight parking seems like the best option. All this BS about KC being the best tailgate is a joke. Last year tailgaters lined up (us included) like Oklahoma sooners on a land grab. We got in line atleast 1 hour early and boom they opened the flood gates. We set up and had a great time but there is no real time to tailgate. Sorry you can't get it done in 3 hours. Hell Disco doesn't even belt out his first WOOOOOOOOOOO! until the 3rd hour.

It was hillarious to see the chief fans zoom in and scramble, litterally falling over top of one another to set up their tarp houses. Hell they don't even have enough time to reheat their BBQ.

Only drawback I can see is that we would miss all the fun of being around the playes hotel. We parked OF1 infront of the vallet at their hotel last year and had a blast. Hmm now that I think about it it's a tough call.

If we rolled in there just before midnight though it would be sweet!

Seems like a risky move for the Chiefs. They might have people hauling in trailers and making them permanet fixtures in the tailgating lots. Those Chiefs fans are resourceful people. Hilarious!

I go every year to this game. The gates open 3 hours prior to kickoff, even for the 3:15 kickoff. They will open around noon for the Bronco game. We tailgate on the south side of Kaufman Stadium on the front row. It's a quick tailgate but still plenty of fun. We'll be going up Saturday and partying at Kelly's down in the Westport area Saturday night if anybody wants to go.

Ok, this kind of seals it for me.. I think we're going to get space in the "Arrowhead Park" lot. It opens at noon the day before the game. We'll probably get there around 8 or 9 AM day of game as we have a place we'll be staying the night before.

I think we should see how many passes we need to buy and coordinate so we can ensure we're all together. We'll have at least two of our Lot R tailgate team there....

I agree. Infact while at the game yesterday I ran into a nice young lady whom I met on the trip to Vegas for the Arena Bowl. Her family owns a charter bus company and they treated us like gold on our trip from Denver to Vegas and back. It was first class bus with great service at an awesome value.

Anyhow I mentioned I know some people looking for a ride to KC and she said "talk to dad". I have the contact info. I can only take so many on OF1 and it's basically full already but if we get 40 or more people they said they would charter a ride to and from KC.

Tix aren't that hard to get either expecially the way Chiefsplanet looks right now.:Broncos:

Ok, we've locked in. We have a group of about 12 that are sitting in section 341. For tailgating, We've already bought two spots at Arrowhead Park. I have a contact with the Chiefs who can ensure we're all reserved in Arrowhead Park in the same location. I just need to get her names for everyone who has a spot and wants to be a part of the group tailgate. She did say that, to ensure grouping, they need to be pre-paid reservations because they could not guarantee all spots would be together if purchased on arrival. You can read about and buy a spot on-line on this site: http://www.kcchiefs.com/arrowhead/apark/. Please let me know and I can coordinate with the chiefs to get all our spots together.

I had a GREAT time tailgating with everybody at the KC game last year, but had a TERRIBLE time inside the stadium as my wife got shoved to the ground and I got pushed down the steps and tore ligaments in my ankle. I would like to tailgate again with OF1 and the Crew, but not sure I can talk the wife into going to that game again!
Anybody planning on just going to tailgate?

Seems a bit high from when I was looking but that was a couple months ago. The stock in this game has definetly gone up since then. The chief fans/scalpers might be holding out a little more since they have won some games. One thing is for sure. There are always chief fans willing to part with their seats for beer money.;)

Those sound like great seats. Don't let me discourage you. We need someone down low flying a flag in that section! Hell get em! We have something like 8-9 of us in the endzone row 9 right in the middle. We'll be sporting plenty of orange and blue there.

I think the plan is to be in the lot around 8:00am. That's our usual start time. There is no best resource for away game tix that I know. You just got get em where you can.

Best place is at the stadiums and taking some other fans tix who his willing to sell them for close to face value. Only thing is you gotta run around to get that done. I just don't have time to do that while setting up the tailgates. Just keep your eyes all over the net. Something will come up.

http://www.kcchiefs.com/arrowhead/apark/.

We'll be combining forces with Crisars groups. I still have to talk to Mile High Jester and see what he wants to do. I know his group is going also.

Last year 9798 we parked OF1 infront of the players hotel and crashed in the bus and the ladies stayed in a hotel room. That is our same plan. I'm not sure which hotel the players will be at just yet but have a pretty good idea.

So Saturday we're going to kick it around the hotel. We bribed a chief fan to move enough cars at the vallet to make room for the bus... They have a cool bar there. Then sunday morning we'll pull out of the hotel around 7:00am and be in the lot right at 8:00am if it's open then???????

ok just ordered the arrowhead park spot online. Only problem is they don't give you a confirmation or anything to print out to show that it has been paid? I got a confirmation email but nothing to print out for a parking pass or even a receipt???? What the heck?

Also there is no inidication when the lot reopens on gameday? It says entry is allowed up until 11:59am the day before the game.

Well the Chiefs have my freakin $90 bucks and I got nothing to show for it. Not even a decent email.

I'm all about the tailgate but it says the lot opens at 1:00pm the day before the game? This sounds like short term housing rather than tailgating? I wonder if the Chief fans just leave their RVs on blocks there all season long? lol
*edit* well my email I replied to from the chiefs came back in error...just great

No wonder these guys can't build a stadium. They can't even have decent instructions on parking and have an email system that works.

Ok the Chiefs called me back. Here is the deal with Arrowhead park. You have to get your vehicle in that lot before midnight and they don't open it until 11:00am the next day. Makes no sense to pay $100 when you can pay $45 bucks where we parked last year (North of Royals stadium).

However they gave me the number of another lady in parking who they thought could organize an early arrival for us and a couple other vehicles if that is what we wanted to do. I'm still waiting on Jester as he said he wants to make this trip also.

We could all roll into designated area in the morning. The upside here is we wouldn't have to overnight it at the stadium and still be able to hang at the players hotel/run around downtown etc. I'm waiting on the call back.

I had my deposit on arrowhead park but they said that it's refundable.

Whoa - this was news to me, I was sure I read that lot re-opened at 6AM the day of the game. How do we arrange to get in their early? Let me know how I can help. It is becoming impossible for me to believe that KC is such a great tailgating city.

Awesome 9798.... We've got friends in 341 Row 25 (not sure which seats) and as noted were in Row 35. This is going to be a great trip... We'll see you in the tailgating lots before I hope...

It was to me also Chris. That gal hasn't called me back. I'll put another call in today. Our choices are get the vehicles in the lot before midnight or tailgate where we did last year but you can't get until until 3 or 4 hours before the game, or we need to get ahold of the lady who can arrange an early arrival spot for us.

I'll make the call and let you know.

If you decide to get your money back it shouldn't be a problem.

Right now, we have two spots in that lot. One for us and then another group that is travelling seperately but planning to tailgate with us. I still want to do it - otherwise we'll all have to do the "sprint tailgate" or start somewhere else and move it.

Theres a lot of cheap hotels around the Ameristar Casino, which is only about 4-5 miles from the stadium. If you want to have fun in KC and are looking at going out on the town, stay near the Plaza or Westport, which are both about 15-20 miles from the stadium.

Sounds like this KC bash is shaping up nicely. Getting alot of emails from people who say they are going who don't necessarily post on the Mane. I got another call into the Chiefs to try and figure out the tailgate spot. I'm starting to feel a little Orange blood discrimination as they aren't returning my calls.....lol

Looks like they even charged my credit card for the arrowhead park parking lot spot when they said they said they would hold off until I figured out what was the best option....I think they are desperate for income. lol

**************ATTENTION ALL BRONCO TAILGATERS WHO WANT TO JOIN THE TAILGATE**********************

We are dialed in for an early arrival into Arrowhead park tailgate lot. Just got off the phone with the chiefs!

We will be setting up the tailgate @ 8:00AM SHARP! ChrisR I got you guys covered also. I'm sending you a pm to explain the deal!

***IF ANYONE ELSE PLANS ON SETTING UP AN RV AND WANTS EARLY ENTRANCE TO THIS LOT SEND ME A PM AND I'll EXPLAIN WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO**** If you don't you'll have to either get in this lot by 11:59 pm the night before or they won't let you in until 11:00am. Those are there rules but they are making an exception for our group. Or you'll have to set up your RV in another lot but you can't get into those lots until 11:00am also.

We are set!

We'll be bringing a decent amount of food and brew/soda but I'm not sure how many people are coming to this (seems like alot) so anything you can bring to the tailgate would be good. Beer/slabs of meat/chicken/chips whatever works for you. I know it's hard to bring fresh food while travelling on the road so if nothing else beer is always a good choice. We'll have plenty of BBQ space/coolers (not that we need them..lol) etc. We come prepared with everything.

It's time to start planning the menu!

For directions to Arrowhead park click on the link in this post.

Props to the Chiefs for working with us. Man did I just compliment the Chiefs? Well I sure did. They hooked us up!

As always all Broncos fans are welcome to join up but please drop a post on this thread and let us know you'll be coming if you haven't done so. This helps us estimate the amount of food etc that we need to pack.

Here's a look back at the Broncos vs KC tailgate last year. It was alot of fun! http://www.orangeforceone.com/photos/KCtrip/index1.htm

We look forward to joining forces with ChrisR's Tailgate Titans! Hopefully Mile High Jester and his crew make the trip also. This years tailgate should be bigger and better than last years!

Will be stopping by the party Sunday morning for sure. We normally park in the first row in front of the baseball stadium, south side. We'll take a walk over to the lot and hang out the with out the Maners for a bit. I'll probably be bringing a few humble chief fans (good people) with me. Since I moved here most of my friends are Chief fans. I showed them pics of the OF1 web site and they are actually pretty excited to meet you guys.

If anyone needs anything on this end before you get here, give me a hollar I'll be glad to help out any way I can.

I think you can park a vehicle in Arrowhead Park, in particular if you are arriving on Sunday. But - it is expensive, in particular if you already have a pass. It is really designed for RV's but... See the following site: http://www.kcchiefs.com/arrowhead/apark for information. At the end of the FAQ is a phone number to call for details.

I want to publically thank Mech 77 and Disco Man (AKA Steve and Scott) for allowing me to tag along with them on Orange Force One to Dallas. What a great trip and the 16 hr. ride home was good thanks to our first place Broncos. We had a great trip. I was amazed at all the work and $$ Steve and Scott put into making the tailgaiting experience so great for the fans. They don't do it for recognition or to make money (quite the contrary) they do it because they they love the Broncos and the fans and they love to tailgate. I want to encourage everyone to stop, take a look and think about what it takes to put on a tailgate party of that magnitude. No matter what party you go to, Orange Force One, Mile High Jester's or any other tailgate party be sure too thank you host and kick in a couple of bucks to help put on the next party.
My hardhat (with the snake on it) is off to Steve and Scott for providing the Snakeman with one of his fondest Bronco memories to date.

67 Hours to departure.... :)

Alright - everyone who is going to KC. What are the plans on Saturday night. We're staying with some local people but we'll be out and about Saturday night. After we hit some KC BBQ place, the locals want to take us to some bars including Kelly's Westport Inn which is supposed to be a great sports bar and often frequented by the visitor team fans.

Meck - you were talking about hanging out at the Broncos hotel last year - sounds like fun. Anyone have any other suggestions? One of my best "away game" experiences took place in Lincoln, NE where we were at some famous restaurant where the NU marching band comes and plays. A couple of times we had a full out Penn State vs. Nebraska cheer going with the entire restaurant crowd involved. (I was an adopted Penn State fan that day just cuz you can't be from here and be a big red fan).

You can purchase online at this web site: http://www.kcchiefs.com/arrowhead/apark/

Parking there is $90 and while it is designed for RV's and even opens up the day before the game there is nothing that says you can't park an SUV in there (and we have one person in our group who will have his truck). If you purchase on-line then you will receive a confirmation via email. You should call the individual in the confirmation email and let them know you will be part of the group arriving on Sunday morning early. Feel free to PM me with any questions.

Everything I have seen indicates that the regular lots will open around 11:30 to 11:45. I agree that really shortens the tailgate. The lot we are in is not officially open early. It's a bit wierd. They open the lot the day before the game from noon until midnight. But then they don't officially re-open the lot until the same time as the other lots open - even though if you are already in there you can start your tailgate as early as 6AM. However, they have agreed to let a group of us in early on Sunday. Send me or Meck a message if this is of interest and I can walk you through the process. However, it's a lot more - $90 and you'll have to buy your spot in advance and then call them and get added to our group.

Hello all. I'm a former Chiefs season ticket holder and I thought I would drop in and give a few tips on your trip to the tailgating mecca.
I no longer live in KC, so I thought I would start with Hotel tips. Use Priceline!!! I prefer to stay downtown. Go to Priceline and enter downtown and place a bid at $65 for a 4 star hotel. I think there's only 4 that meet the criteria and I've stayed at all of them and they're all very nice. If this doesn't work, they're probably all sold out (real possible). If you like to gamble, Ameristar is my favorite casino and it's located in NE KC. Ameristar also has lodging, but probably won't have anything available for this weekend. Ameristar has 4 or 5 restaurants and a sportsbar with microbrewery.
Partying.....Westport is a good place to party on Saturday night. Kelly's has kind of gotten a reputation as the place for opposing team's fans partying the night before games. Try to park as close as possible in Westport, the outlying area isn't a great area to be walking around late at night.
Shopping, eating, killing time.......The Plaza is basically a really nice area that has numerous shops and restaurants. They also have the Christmas lights on this time of the year. If you're looking for a steak that you'll never forget, eat at the Plaza III on the plaza. It's been voted the best steakhouse in the world, in the past (you'll definitely need reservations). You might even run into Carl Peterson there, it's one of his hangouts (Dick and Carl live on the Plaza). The plaza is only a few blocks from Westport, near downtown.
If you're looking for incredible BBQ, try Fiorella's Jackstack BBQ (downtown and south of KC). Simply incredible stuff. Watch out though, the stuff is as addictive as crack, you'll find yourself ordering it online. For very casual BBQ, two famous BBQ joints are Arthur Bryant's (downtown [not a good idea at night] and the Ameristar) and Gate's (several locations around the city).
Tailgaiting.....I think it is wise you have chosen to park OF1 at Arrowhead Park. Mainly for security reasons. If I owned OF1, I wouldn't feel good about parking it in the public lots without someone there to watch it. Arrowhead Park just opened this year, so I can't comment on it. Arrowhead public parking opens at noon for this game and there will be huge lines waiting for the gates to open. If you're wanting to tailgate by Arrowhead Park, you'll need to enter the stadium on Stadium Drive, which can be accessed from either 40 Hwy or 435 Hwy.
Arrowhead, by and large, is not usually a hostile place, but all stadiums have their share of jackass fans, so I would suggest walking to and from the stadium in a group. Especially if, god forbid, a Bronco victory. You're always going to get a lot of ribbing, but hopefully nothing more.
Enjoy the game and I hope you all have a miserable trip home, cussing the victorious Chiefs.

Ok I've had a few requests from people asking where they can park for the KC game near arrowhead park. There isn't any early arrival parking for cars. Plenty of parking that opens up @ 11:00am.

All I can suggest is if you want to get to the tailgate earlier is take a cab or find a nearby hotel to park at and walk over. I think there are a few near the highway. Maybe a local could help out on ideas.

Like Crisar said you can order an arrowhead park pass online and park with us but it's 100 bucks and you need to call the Chiefs and get on the early arrival list with us. If you do that YOU HAVE TO BE IN THE LOT BEFORE 8:00am or they will not let you in there until 11:00am.

so we are able to come over an enter without parking (walk) to the tailgate before 11?

from the looks of things, yes you can come over, but the problem is finding some place to park to do so, the gates dont open in the other parking areas until 11 and that appears to be the only parking available in the area

and to complete the trend, i'll be attending the game and hoping to attend the tailgate(who wants to hook my car up to the back of theres and drag it in so i only have to pay $20 bux????)
my seats are in section 101(40 yard line) lower level row 3, if nebody thinks i need a sign/flag etc to be wavin from there, shoot me a pm of what

If anyone is interested in parking ($20) and walking over to where OF1 is going to be let me know. Here's what we're doing. We get in line about 2 hours before the gate opens at the same place every year. We start partying in line. Everybody normally gets out of their cars, mingles around, and has a good time waiting for the gates to open. Once the gate opens we drive down to the South side of Kaufmann stadium and start our tailigating.

This year we're going to walk to where OF1 is and hang out with the Maners for awhile and then end up back up at our parking place. I've never hung out with any of them so this will be my first time meeting everyone. We're probably going to grill some food and eat before we head over there. There's going to be probably anywhere from 6-10 people in our group. I'm still not sure where the RV park is to where we'll be parking at, but it can't be far.

Anyway, if anyone is interested in meeting up with us and parking in the regular lot let me know. I can meet you somewhere in the morning and hook up with you. Also, we'll be down at Kelly's Saturday night after we leave the Ameristar Sports Bar. Kelly's is located down by the plaza and is basically an area of clubs, bars, comedy clubs, restaturants, etc. Once you park, everything is within walking distance. So you can leave one bar and walk to several others without ever driving.

I'm from the area and go to this game every year so I have some knowledge about the area and where things are. If you need help, give me a PM and I'll give you my cell #.

Yes to the flags! Bring em! Sounds like we'll have great representation in the front rows!

We just got done with a costco run.

We're bringing 6-7 30 packs of beer.......If the keg shows up then we might have some left over for the Ravens game...lol

We also have some soda. Not much though.

10lbs of 90% lean burger meat. It came in one big ass tube. Never made those before but they are alot better than the frozen patties for sure. Plus Joe Cahn was nice enough to send us some of his special www.tailgating.com spice! Not sure what all is in there but we put it on everything in Canton and it all tasted good.

We have somwhere in the neighborhood of 10-15lbs of chicken breasts/drumsticks.

7lb Beef Brisket

A shiat ton of some kinda italian sausage I think they are. Ah some chips also. We'll have some other odds and ends.

TailgateTitan is packing some good grub also!

eh so we're definetly in good company.........I was wondering who won that. We didn't really make homemade chilli for that one. Instead we cracked a can of stag chilli, tossed in some tabassco, a couple splashes of Pabst Blue Ribbon beer, some other junk and gave it to the judge.....:~ohyah!: We had no chance. lmfao

I noticed you listed beer twice Chrisar. That's good mojo.

Does anyone know the situation for the regular parking areas around the stadium? It says $20 and that they open 3 1/2 hours before kickoff. Well obviously thats not early enough to celebrate the orange wave coming into KC. Is the RV lot the only one that will be opened early?

I've been stuck in eastern KS for the past year and a half and I can't wait to see some rowdy Broncos fans come into town!!!

I'd say e-mail orangeforceone and ride the bus in with those dudes. Get in early kick in a couple bucks for parking and enjoy. One thing in KC parking lots. Like 1 port a potty. Need a good bladder day. Chiefs fans just piss in their pants so it don't really bother them. It's like a game. One pisses on one guy who does it to another. They say it's their tradition. It's loud in there but just say ELWAY and they usually shut up.

Got to give him this, Jackstack is incredible. I have people bring me back thier beans by the gallon! A must stop in KC.

We'll be at Kellys around 9 or 10. One thing about Kellys is it is Standing Room Only after about 10:00. It gets packed on a Saturday night before a game. It can get tight in there........We'll be at the Ameristar Sports bar around 5 or 6 if anybody wants go there first. They have a really cool Sports bar.

Ok here is the deal. I've had a couple people request a ride into the game because of the parking situation and they want to get to the tailgate early. We can accomodate 6 more people. Easy Street and his friend will be rolling in with us.

If you want a ride to the game we will be leaving the WESTIN CROWN CENTER at 7:30am sharp. We ask that you get to the hotel NO LATER than 7:15am.

So we have 6 seats available.

If you want a ride put a post up. I'd like to accomodate everyone but we are already committed to bringing 4 extra people back to the hotel with us (my girlfriend, disco's, and our very special tailgating couple who got engaged at the KC tailgate last year). So that only leaves 6 extra spots.

If you ride in on OF1 you will get a ride back to the Westin but we will not be giving one way rides back from the stadium to the hotel and we won't be making any other stops but the Westin. We've played city bus driver before with multiple stops and it's a pain in the butt.

This offer is only good to registered members as of yesterday. We won't be picking up someone who registers this morning if you get my drift.

Broncogrl...We'll be arriving in KC around 3-4pm. I'm not sure where Kellys is and I'm not even sure what that place is. We'll try to stop by there. Sounds like there is a party going on!

For the first timers to Arrowhead.

It's only fitting the Bronco fans have an idea of what there potential playoff team is walking into.

- Denver Fan
"I have been to many NFL games throughout the past 20 years, and each time I return to Arrowhead, I become even more amazed at how loud their fans are. I am a Denver Broncos fan, but I would have to say that Kansas City's game day atmosphere is the best in all of the NFL."

- Texans Fan
“I personally don't know why this stadium isn't #1 right now. After talking to a Texans football player, he stated that this IS truly the loudest stadium in the NFL (Arrowhead)."

These are just a few of many quotes I have found from different people across the nation that aren't even Chiefs fans. I hope we can give them a little bit more insight to the subject. Enjoy.

- Why I think it is so bad ....... bad is not a good word man. I would say difficult to play in arrowhead? The simple answer is in the architecture, and of course the 78,000 screaming fans. I mean all 78,000 screaming .......... from 6 years olds all the way up to 90 year olds .......... all horse after a game for a day or two. The bowl effect of that stadium is the true gem in the whole scheme. All that screaming is at its loudest point on that field. Truly an architectural piece of sports art.
Mike Shanahan -

"I know people have tried to prepare me but until you actually experience it, you really don't know how loud it is. It is a fun experience. I remember in that playoff game, that 14-10 (playoff game in 1998) -- and this is before the game -- I'm talking three or four minutes before the game and I am trying to talk to my son (Kyle). He is standing right next to me, I'm yelling and he can't hear me. I am yelling at the top of my voice trying to get him to get something and he has no idea what I am saying. That is how loud it was."

Rod Smith -

"The first time I ever went in there it scared the hell out of me -- and that was just the national anthem," Smith remembered. "When they say, 'The home of the Chiefs' right there in the national anthem, I thought they were going to attack us. I thought 70,000 people were about to come out of the stands and get us."

Rodney Harrison -

"It's not the same as other places," said the Patriots' Rodney Harrison, who formerly was with the Chargers. "It's loud. It's the loudest I've ever played in. The fans are out there four hours before game time, probably tailgating. But it's a great atmosphere for football.

Tedy Bruschi -
"[Arrowhead] is the loudest outdoor stadium in the league. It's so loud you can't hear yourself think."

Jim Mora -
"It felt different in Kansas City. Kansas City's crowd is amazing and you felt it. You felt it. It's like I talk about our Dome...you want it to be a suffocating feeling. You felt that at Kansas City. At Denver yesterday...you just didn't feel it. You didn't feel the heat, you didn't feel the emotion, you didn't feel the crowd, so we didn't get worked up. We kind of just kept playing and we felt like our offense was moving the ball and they continued to move the ball, so we felt like we'd get back in it. And we did. But I think, honest to goodness, a lot of it has to do with the crowd. It's a big difference between Kansas City and Denver. Big difference. Big. Big difference between Kansas City and most places. We want to be talking about Atlanta like I'm talking about Kansas City and I think we're on our way.

- Just another observation from NFL football players about arrowhead.

KANSAS CITY, MO. - Billy Miller remembers the first time he thought Arrowhead Stadium was truly special.

A rookie tight end on the practice squad of the Denver Broncos, Miller made the trip to Kansas City with the rest of the team for a regular-season game in 1999. The coaching staff wanted the young players to get a feel for "playing in a hostile environment," and there aren't many places more intimidating and noisy than the 32-year-old home of the Chiefs.

Most of the details of the game have long since been forgotten. What Miller experienced during pre-game festivities hasn't.

It all began when the team charter bus arrived to find the stadium parking lot resembling a war zone from all the smoke billowing out from tailgaters. Later, as The Star-Spangled Banner was about to end, Miller recalls the nearly 80,000-strong "Sea of Red" screaming in unison, "Chiefs!" Finally, there was a loud roar and shake as a military jet flew over the stadium.

"I got chills," said Miller, now with the Texans. "It's one of the best home-field advantages in football."

Nowhere in the NFL is there a noisier crowd than the 79,451 fans who regularly fill Arrowhead Stadium. The Chiefs had the NFL's best home record (63-17) from 1990-99. They're 59-22 at home in the last decade, fourth only to Green Bay, Denver and San Francisco.

Jeeezzz Pile on huh? Dissing KC BBQ and Arrowhead tailgating?zowie! I don't think you are going to get many outside of Denver that agree with that.

Look - I'm not the one who dissed it. You did when you said Arrowhead Park tailgating sucks. I think it's a trueisim that good tailgaters can tailgate pretty much anywhere. Hell the people in Buffalo who tailgate in -5 degree snow storms for 3 days have proven that.

Tailgating in Arrowhead Park will not suck this week because we'll be there, another proof of that trueisim. If Arrowhed tailgating is great then I'll see it on Sunday. I've always heard how great it is - which is why I was so so surprised that none of the lots opened early and that is why we decided to get into Arrowhead Park sooon to be renamed Mile Hi Park.

I'm definitely not dissing KC BBQ. You can do that right. I'll have my first chance to evaluate KC Tailgating on Sunday. I'll have experienced one or more flavors of KC BBQ by Saturday night.

Don't know if I'll have access to Inet while I'm away and we leave in about 45 min so... good luck to all. See everyone in Mile Hi Park.

I have spoken to the almighty himself (he does wear an orange flowing robes you know). He told me he would sent a sign that he so loved the Broncos, and low and behold in 1993 the Pope entered Mile High Stadium and blessed the place. Four years later they won the Super Bowl. Which fulfills the prophecy "He shall cometh and the Broncos will winith!"

Well woke up to a few inches of snow on the ground to my surprise. Forecast called for snow but I didn't see a sign of any as of late last night. Hopefully I-70 is clear all the way thru and this is just a local storm that has setted in over Denver. If for some reason they shut the road down like they did last week we'll have to camp out on I-70 I guess. I suspect we'll be able to push on thru.

*edit* looks like snow to the Colorado border for now. Hopefully we can get ahead of this thing if it decides to hit the rest of Kansas.

After leaving at 6AM we're back home. Had an awesome tailgate with OF1, Meck, Disco, EasyStreet, Teddman, CrushAholic, Dr. Broncenstein, Bronco9798, Flair, 12thMan, and one of our own tailgate partners JimmyD... There where tons of Bronco fans from the lots who saw the huge Bronco tailgate setup proudly flying some 12 to 15 flags and walked over to join in the fun. I do think we impressed the locals. Thanks to JimmyD for the music. If only the result would have been better.

Meck and Crew - it was great to partner on this tailgate and I definitely look forward to doing again.

BigRedChief - sorry I didn't get a chance to say hi. I saw you as you were heading back to your tailgate but didn't put two and two together until you were gone.

As for the Chiefs fans... in our nosebleed section we had a good time. Had a couple of bozos that really wanted to pick a fight and we just let them talk to the back of our heads. I know everyone in section 110 (Meck, Disco, CrushAholic, etc..) had some really ugly experiences after the game - frankly ones that are very embarrasing for KC. But - to be fair, most of my experience with the KC fans was positive.

I guess that should come with the territory. I just wish there was some security around when our group had problems with Chiefs fans wanting to pick fights. I posted this in the CP thread that Meck was posting in...................

It was pretty cool meeting you guys at your tailgate. Meck77 has the coolest tricked out tailgate bus of all time. Major props!

Myself, Bowser, Phobia and JSPChief and some other Chief fans that don't post here all went over to visit their set up. they couldn't have been more hospitable showing us the bus, offering us food and beer.

Those dudes know how to tailgate. Great set up. must have been spying on us to learn tips and tricks.

I saw the orange mane group after the game before they left the stadium and talked a little smack with them. I consider walking out of Arrowhead with them to enjoy the ribbing on the way out. I never considered it would get physical. I wish I had now.

Next time they visit Arrowhead I'm offering my services as a bodygaurd after the game. Despite the fact that they are stinking Bronco fans those dudes are alright by me.

Yeah - actually, the tailgate spot was pretty weak..... We were like half a mile from the stadium. "Next time" I think I'll go ahead and tailgate in line and then next to the stadium or at least as close as I can get the RV in. But - this must be said, we had about six vehicles of Bronco fans and a great setup that had huge visibility and drew people out to our tailgate from the parking lots. I think the Chiefs fans (as professed by BigRedchief) were pretty damn impressed. It would have been harder to coordinate that in the other lots.

But.... this was way fun....

But - to be fair, most of my experience with the KC fans was positive.

I think we need to hear more about this ugly experience!!!!!!

That is by far the ugliest tailgate spot ever, wait for sd people
I told you guys that spot sucked.

Just another way to make money off parking. Theres a parking lot by the baseball stadium where they allow big RV's and busses to park. Try that one next time.

OF1 was set up in that lot last year.

Yeah I don't think it was any better either. The problem there is you can't get in until 4 hours before the game.

Arrowhead park is pretty darn far for the price you have to pay I will say that.

You did you did... There were two big positives to that spot though. 1) we got in at 8AM instead of 11 and 2) we got to setup together. We drew a ton of Bronco fans out of the parking lots (and frankly a fair number of Chiefs fans) who saw the setup and said "I got to be a part of that..."

I know it's a little late, but I wanted to say what a great time I had in KC. All the Bronco Fans were class acts. The tailgate was awesome! Thanks for a great time. Look forward to going again next year.
