NEW YORK It's not uncommon to hear or read pundits referring to President George W. Bush as a "popular" leader or even a "very popular" one. Even some of his critics in the press refer to him this way. Perhaps they need to check the latest polls.

President Bush's approval rating has plunged to the lowest level of any president since World War II at this point in his second term, the Gallup Organization reported today.

"All other presidents who were re-elected to a second term had approval ratings well above 50% in the March following their re-election," Gallup reported.

Johnson, 1965: 69%.

Bush's dipped to 45%, the lowest point in his presidency. It still has a ways to go before reaching 37%, the lowest in Clinton's presidency.

Hahhahahaha!. What parallel universe do you live in? Of course it matters. If the leader of our country has a bad approval rating can you maybe comprehend that all is not well in his policies? If you get a bad annual review at work do you dismiss it?

The 'parallel universe' Exile from Sound Judgment inhabits is called 'BushWord."

It's a world where inconvenient facts like the following are categorically dismissed in order to maintain the delusion that The Monkey is a great leader:

All other presidents who served a second term had approval ratings well above 50% in the March following their election, Gallup reported. Truman and Johnson had finished out the terms of their predecessors, and then won election on their own for a second term. Bush's current rating is 45%. The next lowest was Red-Ink Reagan with 56% in March 1985.

More bad signs for the president: Gallup's survey now finds only 38% expressing satisfaction with the "state of the country" while 59% are "dissatisfied." One in three Americans feel the economy is excellent or good, while the rest find it "only fair" or poor.

Gallup noted that more challenges lie ahead for Bush, including public doubts about his Social Security plan and Iraq policies.

Yeah no kidding. Say I wonder what John Kerry's approval rating is? Oh wait a second....nevermind.

Exile in SJ there is no doubt in my mind that LA loses sleep over this. I rarely go in the political forum but it always makes me smile everytime I see another thread like this knowing that LA is all stressed out. Best part about it is that it is YEARS away until another election!

I "lose sleep" and get "all stressed out" when I see the monkey's numbers plummeting and the GOP imploding from within?

Are you sure this is your final answer? :D

The Republican party is going to implode. The fuse has been set by none other than Hot Tub Tom, and the stupid bastard doesn't even have the simple sense to get away from it.

Bottom line: he and his cronies overreached with Schiavo - the polls tell us so, and the public held back the urge to vomit. Was that enough? No! Then we had Cornyn all but tell rednecks to go buy guns and cap judges in the well of the Senate - and when told that he was over the line, did he back off? No! He apoligized that people didn't understand what he said, even though it was clear as day.

Given these two instances, you'd think that Hot Tub Tom would STFU for a couple of days, but does he? No! He sends a videotaped message to the Fundie Wackjob Conference to Plot Violence Against the Judiciary where he says their next step should be 'more than rhetoric.'

These guys have moved into a zone where they believe that they're the law, and they are going to keep pushing their bully-the-judiciary agenda. It's a stupid move on par with Newtie shutting down the government because Clinton made him sit in the back of air force one - and will backfire just as badly.

I pity DeLay if his corruption scandals ever get in front of a circuit judge. They'll slap him so hard, he'll see birdies circling his head for a week.

The Great conservative crack-up is on its way.

The right doesn't have any idea how to run a country. They know how to shoot down proposals and they know how to steal. When it comes to actually providing for the welfare of the American public, and leading the free world - they don't know their ass from a rat hole. So here they are controlling all three branches of government, plus the majority of states and the military - and they're lost. What's hardwired into their system that will bring them down is pandering to their fundie base. They've indulged these people's superstititions and anti-education mindset, and now the fundies have turned into a beast that requires constant maintenance - a fresh new outrage weekly.

It must make you feel good to post worthless and extremely biased topics day in, day out. I suggest you call Mr. Rather. You guys would get along really well, and hes most likely looking for a partner in crime.

Problem is LABF took this on the Hard way ....... He is right , but hammering people wont get it done .....
Here it is , People pull up to the Gas pump, they pay over 2.00 a Gallon , they saw congress say no to a Min wage increase , they see their check is still the same amount ... then they go to a grocery store , they see the price of groceries going up , and their checks are still the same , that sits in the back of peoples minds , they dont want ot hear about Inflation, supply and Demand , all they know is they are spending more money to live , and taking in the same amount ....... you can make up excuses about inflation is too blame , supply and demand is too blame , but Not voting for the Min pay increase , you cant .......

Behind Bush's Slump
By David Ignatius
Friday, April 8, 2005; Page A25

(snip)
Real leadership takes courage. The night Bush's father was inaugurated in 1989, he wrote in his diary that he planned to call the Democratic speaker of the House the next day and begin the painful work of cutting the budget deficit. By working responsibly with Congress, the elder Bush helped create the conditions for the economic boom of the 1990s. But he lost the 1992 election. That specter is now gone for the younger Bush; he won the prize that eluded his father. But what does he want to do with it?

I asked one of Bush's political advisers recently why the president hadn't worked more closely with congressional leaders to deal with America's serious financial problems. He answered that this president has no interest in dickering with committee chairmen over the details of legislation. Bush is a man of large ambition who wants big, bold victories -- who wants to hit home runs rather than singles and doubles.

To me that's the heart of Bush's problem. He's swinging for the fences, on everything from Iraq to Social Security. But leadership isn't just about soaring rhetoric; it's about responsible stewardship. And in the end, it's about solving problems. Perhaps that's the real reason the president has lost momentum since that remarkable Inauguration Day speech. The country elected him to be a leader, not a barnstormer.

I wonder what it will take for the sheeple who support the Smirk & Sneer misadministration to wake up and realize how they are voting against their own interests?

Do you think it's even possible?

I can't help but believe they'll still be blaming Clinton, Dems, and gays from their cardboard boxes...right to the bitter end.

Something tells me these people were blaming Clinton long before I came down the pike. ;)

You believe these people can or should be appeased - I don't.

Will I welcome them into the reality-based community should they decide to wake up and/or stop personally attacking me everytime I mention what the criminals running the country are up to? You bet.

But as long as these idiots continue to come at me with every attack in the book - no matter how personal or low - I'll be right back in their faces.

And since it's usually a game of three-on-one, it sometimes takes both barrels to get the job done.

I am not saying to stop doing that , all iam saying is Push more democrat message and less Hammering , lets face it Bush is already in office , lets get a democrat in Office the next election .......

Smirk supporters have "tuned me out" from the get-go (which is their perfect right, and I really don't give a f*ck.) It matters not whether you use a hammer or kid gloves - if you're a liberal, these people will hate you and will work to discredit and slander you just the same.

Guys like Beerslug are more diplomatic than I could ever hope to be, and the rightards personally attack and slander him just for presenting news stories.

I remember when I first came to the old DPO. As a newcomer, I was getting hate e-mail from monkeys for simply mentioning the fact that I supported Gore in the upcoming 2000 elections. Such is the mentality we're dealing with.

Now you watch: Some right-wing idiot will accuse me of "whining" when, in reality, I'm simply stating the facts.

what we need to prevent is Republicans winning the next go around ;D

Yep. However, until something can be done about black box voting, election fraud, and the GOP's control/privitization of the voting apparatus, we're going to continue to twist in the wind, I fear. (Unless Dim Son and the Grandiose Old Party continue to implode at such a rate that we can somehow overcome the Diebold point spread, that is. )

I am not saying to stop doing that , all iam saying is Push more democrat message and less Hammering

I think we have to understand that we're dealing with people who have zero respect for anyone who tries to compromise with them. They see attempts to appease, compromise, acquiesce, etc., as weakness. (Look at how they hated Clinton for this sort of thing, and look what it got him.) One of the Dems' problems, IMO, (particularly the candy-ass DLC Dems) is that they insist on following the rules of golden gloves boxing when, in reality, we're in a street fight w/ thugs who don't adhere to [i]any rules.

But I do appreciate your input - anybody who has the cajones to say "I'm a Democrat" in public in Wyoming has my respect! :)
