View Full Version : Adrian McPherson runs again!!!

His recent pro-day workout was exactly what I expected. I thought he would run better than he timed in Indy, I also suspected his accuracy would be a little off. The dude really is raw and needs some coaching, but the ability is certainly there. He can run, he is elusive, he has incredible arm strength, and he is still fairly young. I'd take a shot with one of our 3rd round picks.
Here are the results from his pro-day:
ADRIAN McPHERSON pro day
Mike Margittai gives us the low down on McPherson's workout.
Hand-timed, McPherson ran a 4.48 with the wind and 4.63 against it. He vertical jumped 40 1/2 inches
and did the three cone drill in 6.74 seconds. In passing drills, he was on and off. He showed great arm
strength, but his touch was hot and cold and overthrew a couple balls. He did throw the ball 70 yards
from a stand still as he stood on the 40 yard line and threw the ball through the end zone.

I'm hoping the Broncos pull the trigger on this guy. He has all the tools, and he is the type of QB that fits the system perfict. I'm just afraid that somebody might pick him sooner. I hope Shanny has his eye on this kid.

I have strange feeling the only qb out of FSU, Denver would take is Chris Rix. Good arm, mobile and has potential to be a decent qb if he gets the right coaching staff

Shany wouldn't draft this kid if he was still around in the 6th round. Shany is at his peak of the hole notion that a bunch of "character guys" is the only way to build championship teams without cheating the salary-cap. How else do you explain signing the most over-payed player in the league -John Lynch last year.

Dumb post of the day nominee..... JL most overpayed player in the league last year??? HARDLY! He wasn't even close to the most overpayed player on the team last year. How about Trevor Pryce? Al Wilson maybe?
And Shanny only goes after "Character guys" huh? I guess that would explain IHOP, Dale Carter, and a few others. History you say, perhaps G. Warren and his G-Money, Bling-bling attitude equate to character for you? I think Shanny goes after talent and looks at the risk-to-reward factors. Will we go after McPherson I don't know, but to say that we won't look his way b/c he isn't high character is not 100% accurate. Would Shanny prefer him to be a Courtney Brown type of role model... of course but I don't think he'll not take a chance on a 3rd rounder b/c of character issues. Completely different story if we're talking about a first round pick...
I wouldn't call McPherson much of a character issue right now. He got kicked out of the NCAA, but appears to have learned from nearly killing his NFL dreams, and busted his ass in the arena league to perform. I'd take him over EVERY QB in this draft, the fact that we could get him with a 3rd rounder makes me want him even more. He's like another Mike Vick, but with a few hard lessons under his belt already.

I might have strectched the John Lynch being the most over-payed statement a little. The fact that he chose to pay Lynch 4mil. last year though, certainly streghthens my point that shany is looking for high character guys(which might I say I am in favor of at the right price). 4 million was to much though IMO. I haven't heard what he restructered to, but I'm guessing that he received more guarenteed money. He just wasn't the impact player I expected. He single-handely gave up a few TD's that he SHOULD have prevented. He's a good player, but 4mil was a little to much. I'm a big fan of Fergusen- FYI
The Dale Carter situation was probably how this hole stratagy of thinking began, i'm guessing that had to sting.
Mcphearson is slated as a 3rd or 4th rounder with a troubled past- so I stand by my opinion that because of shany's mind set of trying to draft character guys that unless he's there in the 7th round Shany won't give him the time of day. I can't spell dude, you'll have to forgive me

Say what? please. Mcpherson hardly did anything in college to even warrant such praise. he is no where close to what Michael Vick. Adrian has bust written all over him.

No prob with the spelling..... I wouldn't bash that anyway. I think you're wrong about McPherson. I hope that if he's there at the end of the third we take a long hard look. We need a solid backup and eventual replacement for Jake. McPherson isn't ideal, but he's so close to the same player as Jake it isn't even funny. In fact, think of a more athletic version of Jake and that is McPherson. Plus his arm is quite a bit stronger!
As for Fergy, he's one of my favs as well. I'm really hoping that he can step in and play well enough to forget the need of a Safety..... but if he doesn't Huff out of UT will be a stud and we should jump all over him in 2006!

He's the guy I've been hoping that the Broncos take with one of their comp picks, along with Colquitt. He may not be the most acurate QB, but he doesn't throw many interceptions either. I like Plummer as a QB, but I think it's about time that the Broncos take a young QB that has the potential of being a great QB down the road. I'm getting sick of going into the season with guys like Kanell and Frerotte as backups.

He won't be picked high enough to be able to warrent the title bust IMO. I agree the Vick comparison is just silly. Someone isn't firing on all cylinders to make that statment.

I suggest you check his stats at FSU and in the Arena League before blurting out such an uniformed opinion.

Ditto- betting against your teammates even if he did not throw the game (ya right) goes way beyond character issues. That is betrayal and when he is to be the general of your offense no way.

Noone wants another Art Schlister, but his production isn't why he's not in the NFL. (well, maybe his stealing a check and throwing a game...).
He didn't spend his vBucks wisely. Neither did I when I bet on Iowa in the first round...then watched Arizona blow a 15 point lead late against Illinois. I'm going to have to learn that paypal trick and open an offshore account.
Say what? please. Mcpherson hardly did anything in college to even warrant such praise. he is no where close to what Michael Vick. Adrian has bust written all over him. Look at the numbers he put up against other pros in Arena ball. The talent level there is better than college and he did great last year.
As for comparing him to Vick, he's got speed and a great arm, but is real raw. Sounds a lot like Vick doesn't it? Vick isn't this elite player everyone seems to think he is. He's got the talent but right now he's not even sniffing the top 5 QBs in the league, and unless he learns how to pass a hell of a lot better than he has to date he never will. I honestly can't understand this gross masterbation over Vick throughout the NFL. His defense carries him most games, along with his team's excellent running attack, of which he's only one third of.

I wouldn't mind picking up mcpherson in the draft. We definitely need a backup qb. If plummer goes down denver goes down. I hate Danny Kanell..He is a little bitch. Mauck has some skills passing but no athleticism.

A good idea. I think he would be a reliable backup in time, maybe even a starter even though he's a little short. very productive though. I've seen a couple of his games.

Oh my, how uninformed we are today about Adrian. Those were allegations of gambling versus NC State that were never proven. However, his character in other matters combined with the allegations were enough for Bobby Bowden to dismiss him from the team which is saying something. Bowden usually stands by his guys like a mother chick, but Adrian got involved with the wrong guys and Bowden Knew it.
Simply put, he made some bad decisions after starting to hang out with the wrong crowd at FSU. His abilities are Raw, but he only played sparingly there as a freshman and sophomore. His sophomore stats were very impressive. As I said last year, he would be a good risk/reward guy after the fourth round. The problem is that the word has gotten out about his talent and he will no longer get past the third probably. He needs a few years of true development to be ready to play, but when he does get that shot IMHO he will be a starting level NFL QB or better.

Thank you Medi... Like I said, if he somehow falls into the bottom of the third I think it's well worth the "low" risk. Best believe if we can take a scrub like LeSueur we can take a scrub like McPherson.
As for Lefors, very athletic QB. Size will kill him. He could be a guy we look at in the 6th round. Standing right at 6' tall you have to wonder if he'll make his living in the NFL as a QB.
I still think Slap had a great idea about 2 months ago when he was mentioned Garrard. He could help and was said they would take a 4th for him. Perhaps a 4th in 2006 could do the trick?
This draft is going to be amazing. I can't remember a draft that had us talking about so many players throughout. Even in the first round. Last year everybody was talking about 2 or 3 players (Jackson, Williams, and Clayton) the year before 2 players (Kwame Harris and then at the last Foster), the year before that 2 players as well (Ed Reed and Ash). This year there have been 20 different names thrown out there. A number of WR's, DE's, DT's, OT's, OG's, CB's, and even (from me anyway) a Safety. Who knows what route we'll go???

It's intriguing in that a guy like Kurt Warner exploded on the NFL after his stint in the Arena League.
Warner says the Arena League forced him to make very quick decisions, and with a short, enclosed field...make especially precise passes.
McPherson has been something of a phenom in the Arena League, which raises the prospects of a real boom or bust kind of gamble.
Does everyone...or anyone really think this is a good roll of the dice with the Broncos where they are as a team right now?

I don't know if he would be a good roll of the dice or not, but I vividly remember Plummer throwing the ball to the other team repeatedly, and I hope we can somehow get another viable option.

I wouldnt take him...unless he is there in the 6th or 7th which he wont be. We have too many pressing needs to waste on QB with th first four picks..all of which are on day 1. Gotta squeeze out as much "instant impact" from that as we can. I have never really liked McPherson anyway. Id rather go with Rix in the 7th. He has more physical talent than any QB in this draft. He is way behind in his development (thanks to Jeff Bowden and Doug Dickey, primarily) but we can invent a season ending hang nail at the last second and hide him on the I.R. for a year. And then have him be the No. 3 the year after that. Then in Year 3 he can compete. It will take awhile for Chris to get up to speed after they totally ruined him at F$U but he is very talented. He has very good height, an excellent arm, even more mobile than Plummer, a great athlete and decent accuracy. He does have to improve in decision making...considerably. But he has 1st round tools for a 7th round price. The light just has to go on in his head thats all and he will have 2 years to learn without taking a snap. Id much rather have him in the 7th than waste a higher pick for McPherson.

No this is no time to be wasting picks. Our offense is in shambles and about to implode. Now most here know I am a fairly homeristic fan; however, we have lost the path.
We run a west coast offense. We do not have the personel to execute it. Result? No red zone scoring. Where is the downhill sweep? where is the screen passes? where is the RAC? Where is the 60% completions? We need a RB that can catch, Bell is just horrible at catching the ball. We need a big strong WR that can...dare I say Run after the catch. Hopefully we have a FB that can block and catch the ball in Kyle...jury out still on him. We need not one but 2 Guards that are more athletic and can get out and pull effectively. We need Jake to be more accurate. As TJ has stated "I want to believe", but he needs to hit the WRs in stride.
I would love us to go all offense (after a trade down) on the first day and get G, WR, G, RB/QB or Bass, Jones, Mathis and Cedric Houston/Andrew Walter.

Please NO. Even with the new DL from the Browns the DL has even more question marks than it did at the end of the season and is the most glaring weakness on the team. Pryce - will he be here, will he ever be healthy? Ellis - will he ever be healthy ? Brown - will he ever be healthy? Warren - must prove he is not a bust. Eukeban - must prove he is not a bust. Meyers - can he be more than a spot player?

Round 1: D-line
Round 2: WR or Safety
Round 3: Guard, and then either Kicker, WR, or Safety.
My ideal draft:
1. Shaun Cody
2. Josh Bullocks
3. Kemoeatu
3. Best WR, Kicker, or D-lineman available....or Adrian Pherson should he still be there.

I really wonder about this guy's wonderlic score. He did just dumb ass stuff, and we don't even know all he did, and to get kicked off by bowden ....? He'd sell a girl kicker in Thailand if it'd get him a recruit. Kid's either flaming stupid or totally unsocialized or both. Maybe he's grown up a bit, but growing up won't help him read defenses if he's stupider than aaron brooks.

I'm sure he'll get drafted, but even a terrible team with a great need at qb .... oak or clev for example .... wouldn't give the guy the reps he'll need. He prolly needs another arena year and an nfleurope stint before being a legit option for a regular season game.
