"They get on me and want to know:
Hank, why do you drink? Why do you roll smoke?
Why must you live out the songs that you wrote?
Over and over everybody makes my predictions.
So if I get stoned, I'm just carrying on
an old family tradition."

I don't know much about country music, but that same thing is being said by fans of hip hop and rock. Seems like all music on the radios today are pop songs, and it all sucks. I hate what happened to hip hop. It was great from about the mid 80s to mid 90s. Then the big wigs in suits took it over and all we get is crap now. Rock fans say the same thing about their music. Looks like that has happened to country too. I don't even listen to the music on the radio anymore. I'm listening to talk radio now.

I listen to one music station. They play rock and roll from the 80's and early 90's. Music really has gone to sh&t. It's because stations like clearsource own 400 radio stations and all of them follow the same stupid formats. I listen to NPR and sports shows mostly now. I like the fox sports station and ESPN's Dan Patrick has a good show.

You are about 10 years too late on rap. The mainstream music sucks. 50 Cent, all the southern rappers. It all sucks really bad. These guys have no skills. Their lyrics suck, and they don't flow well. A while back there was a lot of good music coming out. Yo MTV Raps and Rap City played all the good songs. Yo MTV Raps is now gone, and Rap City plays too much crap. Rap is now on TRL, and we all know all the music on TRL sucks.

No SH!T!! Clear Channel can go rot in hell!!
I listen to alot of good stuff, but only a fraction of it comes from after 1995. With the exception of, when I'm in the mood, Euro electronica and ambient stuff.
As far as Country, The Man in Black is really the only one I can get into. With a very few sporadic exemptions. (Devil went down to Georgia...)

Couldn't be further from the truth. He doesn't talk politics on his show. He used to many years ago, but says he stopped because nobody wants to hear that stuff. He mostly advises men how to pickup on chicks, and not get screwed by them. Many of his topics revolves around that. Tells guys to act like jerks and that you don't have to spend money on these chicks to get laid. Sounds strange, but it works. His show is from a man's point of view. Most women hate him because he exposes their game. He also talks about a lot of men/women issues.
I don't agree with him 100%. But he does make a lot of sense, even though many people don't want to hear it.
If I'd compare his show to anybody else's, it would be Howard Stern. They are both shock jocks. Stern is more comedy. Leykis has topics that people call in a debate him on.

Is that guy still around. I used to listen to him in Seattle. Now I live in Saint Petersburg, FL and I thought he was off the air. They have a show out here called "The MJ Morning Show" and it is just horrible. It sucks so bad, it makes me sick, but at work, for the first 2 hours everyday, we have to listen to it. It just illustrates everything that is bad in our world and the media today.
Back to Lykus, I think the guy is hilarious. He goes over the top sometimes, but I can deal with it.

Leykis can be over the top at times...well, most of the time. I'd say I agree with him to a point.
His logic on not dating single mothers sounds bad, but he's totally right. At some point you'll be paying for the kid, or kids. And if the woman gets pregnant, you know she'll have it. It's not worth it. He told a funny story about a time he was dating a single mother. She invites him over, and asks him to bring some takeout. She expected him to buy takeout for the two of them, and her two kids. Then she invites him to Disneyland. She expected him to pay for the two of them, and the two kids. He said he liked the two kids a lot, but he didn't want to pay for somebody else's kids.
Leykis 101 is gold.
Flash Fridays is coming back this week. It's runs when the time springs forward, and ends with the time falls back.

It seems like the best music in any genre is when there is someone who tries something very innovative and there is a change. The best music for me was the late 60's and early 70's. Then it became very stale for the rest of the 70's, just like now it all sounded the same with a few exceptions. Then the early 80's and early 90's were good. We've had a long drought now of anything very innovative. It's time for someone to show up on the scene and make a radical change. All they do in country is whine, hip hop and rap sounds all the same, give me the oldies until something new comes along. It's like redoing an old movie, no one has any imagination today. Although I will say I liked Outkast.

I gotta say again, there IS a lot of innovative stuff out there, it just doesn't necessarily get a lot of attention. Maybe it's just because I listen to a lot of XM radio (which I fully recommend), but I hear a lot of it every day -- it just isn't popular.
If you do want something that's mainstream that's different, check out Beck's new album "Guero". If you don't mind ihip-hop/pop, check out anything that the Neptunes produce.
The problem is, and I'm guilty of this too, we're always comparing the new stuff to the old. Yeah, nothing will ever compare to the Beatles or Beach Boys ("Pet Sounds") in my eyes, but we forget that there was some absolute crap out at that time. It's just in the 35-40 years that it's been since it came out, it's been swept up under the rug. That's why it seems like the Creed's (Creed, Hooba-Creed, Three Creed's Down, NickleCreed, etc.) seem so awful compared to what was in the past.

Look guys/gals -
The only way to find something new, is to either do it yourself or dig and find bands that do what you want or like to hear.
for example, did anyone think the velvet underground was any good, until say - the 'indy' rock movement of the 80's - or the way they influenced grunge -
IMO - soundgarden wasn't 'ground breaking' - but they were GOOD. And good music, 'new' or not, stands on it's own legs.
I play percussion. I play bongos, congos, i have a triangle, i have a 5pc set and an electronic set... there are songs that i don't even play on.....
I do know that my guitar player is trying to figure out how to play robert johnson songs, and i've got my toms on my 5pc set tuned to sound like timpani drums...
Sometimes i feel like our music sounds like indy-brit-pop-bluegrass-onacid

My mom is a huge country fan, so I get to hear it a lot around the house, but its just not my thing I guess. I'm coming to grips with some of it though and don't mind a lot of songs, she tells me it's a sign that I'm getting old but I mostly just like the mainstream country music that you would hear on the radio.

I wasnt a big fan of Creed, they headlined the first concert that I ever went, but I went to it because I jsut wanted to go to a concert.
Godsmack I like, a lot actually. Their last CD, "Faceless" has to be my favorite, because the drumming is just such a step up from the first 2 CD's. But I dig all of their CD's, not a big fan of that acoustical one but all their actual CD's I'm into.
Pearl Jam, Eddie Vedder's asshole attitude hurt them a lot, they release a CD a year or two ago and he was more concerned about smearing George Bush's name than actually touring the CD and doing promotions it seemed. Good band with a bad attitude I guess.

Take note - Different sounds, but the same. They didn't exapand stylistically. Each band helped spawn cloned bands. For instance - ever notice how many bands pretty much sounded like creed or godsmack - then you'd get the pioneers that were both -

I loved AIC. That's how Godsmak got their name.
Lane Stayley had one of the most haunting voices since Ozzy. He was great. One of my favorite songs was Dirt. I just love that song.
You want to hear something crazy - in seattle AIC is over-rated while the rest of the country just didn't really get into AIC.

of course it would alice:
Take note - Different sounds, but the same. They didn't exapand stylistically. Each band helped spawn cloned bands. For instance - ever notice how many bands pretty much sounded like creed or godsmack - then you'd get the pioneers that were both -
or you'd just get puddle of crap - who just ripped off grunge for the chorus's (or would that be choruii) -
So basically what you're saying is music aside, what Creed and Godmsack have done for music(cloned bands) are the same?

i view them as one trick ponies that caught the ear of the station managers at clearchannel and then they told the record companies to send it their way.

Alright I get the drift now, at first I thought you were putting the two together because of musical and lyrical comparisons, which is why I made a fuss about it.

Interesting note about Creed -- they spent more in promotions than any other band in recent memory for their (I believe) second album. Basically, they'd have to have a seriously successful career for a good 10-12 years before they could pay off all the debt they aquired in promotions.
I guess it worked....for a while.

Tobey Kieths Album ...Boomtown , best one he ever done .... Too Bad you dont like George Striat , Collin Raye , Steve Warner , The Hag , George Jones ......
Here is the thing with Country Music , it is a way of Life , for example , I love Cowboy songs sung by Cowboys , Like Striat , Bandy , LeDoux ,Jackson.. to name a few .. I also like Outlaw country , Jennings , Nelson , Shaffer , Coe , Hank Williams JR .. Then you have your would be country Singers like Kid Rock ....
In order for a guy to be good @ country , he has to have the scares , Paid his due ,I cant sing , but I have scares , and I have paid my dues several times over ...... So I can relate to that kind of Music
Great points, Spider.
The best country music has always come from the singer/songwriter who put everyday life and feelings into words and music, or they were significantly original in vocal style, usually due to years of plugging away in honkytonks.
Now, if you look the part and can sing a little bit like Strait or McGraw, you've got a chance.

Sounds to me like he's a right winger Rush impersonator. And that you might want to think for yourself before women are no longer a part of your life.
Like I said before, Leykis doesn't talk much politics on his show.
Who said I don't think for myself? I said that I don't agree with him 100%. And when I do agree with him I still wouldn't go as far as he does.
Women no longer part of my life? Following what Leykis says, you'll have more women than you'd believe. Probably won't have meaningful relationships. But who cares if you are getting laid all the time by different women? If you want a relationship, then don't listen to what he says. But if you are just looking to score, Leykis 101 is gold. Works everytime.

Funny thing. Those women are great in bed, but are horrible to be around. I'd say hit it a couple of times then get out of there. And make sure you wear that jimmy hat. You don't want to have any kids with those chicks.

;D Merle Haggard , George Jones , also ....... I like alot of todays country , George Strait , he can sing , and he can cowboy , I dont care for Kenney Chesney , I do like some of Tim McGraw .....I tell you who I dont like and that is Darrell Worley .......
I'll agree up to a point. First off Tim McGraw is just like Kenny, a Country wannabe and taking the music where it doesn't belong, in fact I like Darryl Worley because he's helping take Country back to some of its roots and he has no problem showing his patriotism in his music. People Like Kenny and Tim just want to pander to the kids, not to the REAL Country music fans. They're both too PC for my country blood.

Once they put that daddy role on a guy, they'll take out all that pent up anger out on that guy. It's like they punish the new guy for what their father did. Crazy chicks.

I did, but i explained to her that 'we' aren't going anywhere - then she stared crying and tells me how she screws everything up....
the most sane girl i dated was just a hypocondriac - she was cool - but damn, something was always 'broke' (headache, stomache, arm, hair) you name it.... but she liked to hang out and play drums with me, then she dumped me for some coke head - last i heard she was all strung out -
i am sure jason, that in LA you can find women that would tip the crazy scale....

That's exactly what I want. A girl that is emotionly independent. I hate it when I have free time, and my girlfriend has free time, so I have to spend it with her, all the time. Or if she has nothing to do, but I do have something to do that doesn't include her, she's pissed that I'm not breaking my plans to spend my time with her. Like she can't entertain herself. When she has something to do and I don't, I'm perfectly fine being alone. I'll find something to keep myself busy. But she hates to be alone. There's even been times where she wanted me to skip work just to sit around with her. My next girlfriend will be a girl that can be by herself, or find something to do while I'm doing something else. Even in a relationship, I think both people should keep some type of independence.

Oh hell yeah in agreement there. This one girl got mad because i told her my dog is more independant than her. He can at least go take a **** by himself....
that didn't win me any points. But sometimes i swear, they only hear me when i talk in asshole....
