I've been a bit confused, and maybe a bit negative, about our acquiring all the Browns' defensive linemen. But I've decided to look on the bright side.
Three of the four linemen were first round picks; two were top three overall picks. That means these guys should have some good physical tools to play the game. Injuries and/or lack of motivation could have contributed to underachieving. New scenery, a winning franchise, and a bit of luck in the health department could prompt these guys to play closer to their original expectations. Plus, they'll be joining a defense with better set of players behind them than they had in Cleveland which should make their jobs a little easier. I hope. ;)
Anyway, for all the stat geeks out there, here is a comparison of our starting unit last year versus our four new linemen from the Browns:
Player G Total Tckl Tkl/Loss Ast Sacks Int Pass Def Fum Forced
Ebenezer Ekuban 16 37 28 1.5 9 8 0 2 1
Gerard Warren 13 18 12 1.5 6 4 0 0 2
Courtney Brown 2 2 2 0.5 0 0 0 0 0
Michael Myers 16 33 21 2.5 12 1 0 0 1
TOTAL 47 90 63 6 27 13 0 2 4
PER GAME ~ 1.91 1.34 0.13 0.57 0.28 0.00 0.04 0.09
Player G Total Tckl Tkl/Loss Ast Sacks Int Pass Def Fum Forced
Marco Coleman 16 28 21 0 7 2.5 0 0 1
Mario Fatafehi 16 20 15 2 5 2.5 0 3 0
Monsanto Pope 16 24 19 1.5 5 1 0 1 0
Reggie Hayward 16 43 31 4 12 10.5 1 2 1
TOTAL 64 115 86 7.5 29 16.5 1 6 2
PER GAME ~ 1.80 1.34 0.12 0.45 0.26 0.02 0.09 0.03
The new guys look to have slightly better stats overall on a per game basis. Of our starters last year, it looks like we'll only lose Hayward. So if nothing else we will at least have good depth now.
I'm still hopeful that we'll draft one or two more defensive linemen early in the draft. Warren is a free agent next year and Brown, if I heard it right, has options out of his contract next year. Ekuban only has two years left on his contract and Myers just one one his. It could be that none of the new guys will be here long term. So, defensive line is still very much a possibility on the first day of the draft, in my opinion.
Any other thoughts on the positives of our new defensive linemen? Come on, help me stay positive!

Jacked this from the offical Broncos board, but Javalon posted these stats. I know stats don't tell the whole story, but the stats are vs. the guys we got vs. our starting line-up. I'm not saying that we got ourselves a bunch or pro-bowls, but we didn't get a big pile of steaming crap either.
