I wouldn't be unhappy with that at all.
Baas in the 1st, Vincent Jackson or Josh Bullocks in the 2nd.

I love Baas, but I think the Broncos can trade down (maybe even out of the first to a top 5 second rounder) to get him. It appears from what I've been seeing that the overvaluing of the defensive players in this draft is causing him to slip a little. 90% of the updated mocks I've seen have him going in the early 2nd.
If by moving down the Broncos can get an extra second rounder or at least an extra early third, we could get both Bullocks and Jackson. Use one of the comp 3rd rounders to go with the best available punter, and a 2nd day pick on a return specialist, and I'd do cartwheels. That draft would get the job done IMO.

why not this guy, with his speed and size could be another #27
Georgia's Thomas Davis could be the only safety taken in the first round.
24. Thomas Davis, S, Georgia: He should be the first safety taken off the board. And any time a linebacker/safety type runs a 3.97 short shuttle and a 4.43 40 at 227 pounds, we have a first-round player on our hands. He doesn't play like Ed Reed, but he may be able to remind some of Rodney Harrison or Roy Williams.

I say draft a WR...the Broncos were going to draft Mike Clayton before Tampa traded up.....the little rat jr must have sold out his pop.

Was Kyle even working for the Bucs yet? I don't think he'd graduated from school by that point.

I'm thinking the thread title is right.
I know for a fact that the team took delivery of every second of game discs (tape/film) on DEs & DTs they could get.
Perhaps it was determined that the 1st round class on the whole wasn't good enough or that later round developmental guys might actually be the better buy this year.
Perhaps they have something in the works with Trevor Pryce...or for him.
All the moves seem designed specifically to AVOID having to use that early pick on the D-line.
So, who is in the mix...the game is on.
I'm guessing...and really truly only guessing that it's WR or CB...or a precursor to a move down for Guard & more picks.

I think we would have to move up at least two places. I see no way that Davis (if he lasts that long) will slip past the Packers.

2004 was his first year with the Bucs...
Shoop new QB coach; Shanahan's son hired
NFL.com wire reports
TAMPA, Fla. (Jan. 16, 2004) -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hired former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator John Shoop as quarterbacks coach and Kyle Shanahan as offensive quality control coach.
Shoop, 34, spent the past five seasons with the Bears, previously serving as quarterbacks coach. Before joining the Bears, Shoop held the same position with the Carolina Panthers and coached in college at Dartmouth and Vanderbilt. He replaces Stan Parrish, whose contract was not renewed.
The 25-year-old Shanahan, the son of Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan, spent last season as a graduate assistant at UCLA. He played in college at Texas with Bucs reserve quarterback Chris Simms.

A WR is certainly a possibility. No chance they have the ammo to move up for Williams or Edwards, so that would mean Williamson or White are the most likely targets. Wabbit says on another thread that a move down to take a guard and get an extra pick is possible.
However, all of these DL guys they are getting are high risk which means a couple of young DL would make sense as insurance.
If Davis falls to 25, he would replace Lynch a year from now. He is an excellent player, but not the coverage guy everyone here wants. He is more an Atwater type who can be moved all over the field.

Trade our first down for two seconds or another second and another third.
Then pick up a guard, safety, and WR and call it good. Assuming we go ahead and adopt the entire cleveland d-line.

We could always trade our first/Trevor/and a conditional pick for whoever the Browns draft first this year. Ya know, get it out of the way?
I sense a pattern....

I was sensing a CB or WR as well. Shanny just might be looking at Brandon Browner from Oregon State, he's a faster and bigger version of Lenny Walls, and besides, i would be trying to get Vincent Jackson with our 2nd round pick. At this point i would keep Trevor Pryce.

I'm betting Baas doesn't last past round 1! he is alot better player than Alan Fanecca was when he went to the steelers in the mid 20's (i think)

Actually the DL options are considerably deeper than those on the OL. I believe that if you took Baas or another option (Jamaal Brown or Khalif Barnes) in round 1, there would be a good chance of getting a Castilla, Patterson, Swancutt, Canty, etc in the second.

Baas may not be an exciting pick at #25 but it would be a very solid one. No way he slides to the 2nd and I would rather not risk it...if in fact he is targeted. It is always nice to know you came away from day one with a sure thing.

trade down to the very early 2nd, take Elton Brown, and the Niners first pick in round 3.

In the Broncos draft position, they're going to have to take what's left at the premier positions like WR, DE, DT. But they will basically have their pick of the litter at OG & S. That's helpful to the Broncos considering that OG is a position of need and S is a position they could use a cover guy for.
Baas or Brown in the 1st, Bullocks or Jackson in the 2nd. If the Broncos come away with any combo of those players after day 1 I'll be thrilled.
SoCalBronco
03-29-2005, 07:11 PM
that would be very solid, CO. Gimme Brown after a trade down, Bullocks, and then 3 3rd rounders and we will be fine. I still think we will go DL in the first round.

Bass is not worth a first round draft pick. More then likely, in the NFL, he would be a center. Denver has Nalen, and Nalen's heir apparent in Hamilton. OG needs developmental depth, but not on the first day. I would be very suprised if that happens.

Don't be so sure. I have yet to see a mock draft that has been updated in the past week or two that actually has him going in the first round. I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything and certainly doesn't guarantee that he'll fall, but I think the oddsmakers in Vegas would have him going in the second by a wide margin. Too many WRs and DLs/LBs are climbing into the first round and bouncing offensive linemen and safeties down....

I have seen a few with him going 24 to GB. When the NFL teams start setting up their boards he will be graded out as a 1st rounder. Safepick, day one starter, durable.... To many +'s to not put him up their.

From what I'm reading, he is more of a strong "in the box" safety and a liability in coverage. Just what the Broncos don't need right now...

When were those updated? They probably came out before GB signed two free agent Guards and have yet to be updated. GB really needs a safety from the draft.

With the way CBs are being paid now, it would be worth it to take a CB and have him on a 5 year rookie contract instead of blowing a bunch of money on a FA. There's always that chance he'll be a bust, but we already know how that feels.

I say take the best possible athelete out there who can be versatile with the special teams (returner), doesn't really matter if he's a wr, or a db, as long as he is the most skilled player on the board.

The broncos are in position to draft the best player avaible. I think if clayton is still available then they will draft him to replace Rod Smith in a year . if the Broncos draft clayton then Adams and Jackson or Luke will be cut. I personnal would like to see Ware or Pollack in the first because I'm happy with Smith,Ashly,Watts, jackson and Luke at wr and don't trust are de to stay heathy.
