At the Pro Bowl, Champ Bailey said his objective this offseason was to become an option for the Broncos offensively.

The team is taking him up on it, showing a desire to work with Bailey as a receiver.

Denver coach Mike Shanahan said this week at the NFL owners meetings the team plans to work closely with Bailey on offense during the offseason camps.

"That will be a big part of what Champ does in the offseason," Shanahan said. "We're going to see what he can do ... to work some as a receiver."

The All-Pro cornerback worked some on offense in the early offseason last year. Bailey played about 20 offensive snaps and said he has to become a more consistent route runner.

Shanahan said the idea of having Bailey on offense is well worth whatever extra time it takes.

"That speed of his makes it really appealing," Shanahan said.

Brown still mulling future

Defensive end Courtney Brown's decision to play next season is inadvertently causing a free agency logjam.

Denver is waiting to see what Brown is going to do and is holding off on its other free-agent plans. Denver has interest in Baltimore defensive end Marques Douglas and Atlanta defensive tackle Ed Jasper.

Brown had told teams he'd make a decision Thursday and then by Friday but continues to ponder. Washington and the Broncos, who have been in nearly daily contact with Brown, are the front-runners. Jacksonville is also in the mix.

Douglas also is getting interest from Cleveland, and Jasper from Tampa Bay and Oakland.

Call him coach

Linebacker Keith Burns, last with Tampa Bay, is getting an early jump on his NFL coaching career. Burns, 32, officially returned to Denver on Friday and is expected to assist in coaching Broncos' special teams. It's his third stint with the team. He'll also play on special teams.

Burns, one of the most popular players on the team, spent last season in Tampa Bay after leaving the Broncos. Having a player/coach is nothing new to the Broncos - Jimmy Spencer, now assistant defensive backs coach, was a player/coach in 2003.

Looking for a punter

Denver likely will bring in a punter to compete with the re-signed Jason Baker, who finished the 2004 season as the Broncos' punter.

"We want competition there," Shanahan said.

Good as Gold

The only reason Tampa Bay cut linebacker Ian Gold was financial, Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden said this week at the meetings.

Gold was cut in early March by the salary cap-strapped Buccaneers. The Broncos quickly signed Gold, who had left Denver for Tampa Bay last April.

<b>"I'll miss him," Gruden said. "I didn't want to lose him. Denver is lucky to have him back."</b>

I thought Burns was about ready for his AARP card. I would rather just forget about Ray Ray laying him out on that Botched Kick.

Might be to make him happy. Champ didn't do much. Dropped a couple of passes. I rather him stay on D. Many people are against the idea, but I wouldn't mind seeing him as the punt returner. Deion Sanders did it and was fine.

Could the Bears use Trevor?

Rod may be done after this year it's not like we don't need a Mike Williams on our team.

Mike Shanahan loves speed. You see every year when we attempt to answer the #3 WR position in the later rounds. All the picks from Kris Kole, Herb Haygood, Triandos Luke have one thing in common, they were great athletes, and not very good football players. Champ Bailey is an athlete who is also a great football player, and if part of fielding our best 11 is to let him get involved with the offense, than I'm all for it. Is there injury risk? Yes, however I could get up off this computer and sprain my knee.

I think its funny that every source I've heard coming from the NFL has stated great things about Ian Gold and yet most people on the Mane' think he is a pile of doo doo. Hmmm. Funny.

What is a pipe dream anyway?
"A fantastic notion or vain hope, as in I'd love to have one home in the mountains and another at the seashore, but that's just a pipe dream. Alluding to the fantasies induced by smoking an opium pipe, this term has been used more loosely since the late 1800s."

I still think (hope) Mike Williams is a definite possibility. Not a pipe dream, maybe a stretch, but no where near a pipe dream. Shanny knows what he would do to our offense, and how that would effect our Defense. Thats why our superbowl Defense were as good as they were (they held their own), because our offense was so good.

If you have a good defense, decent 3rd down and red-zone conversion rate, and you win the TOP, you are going to win most games. Shanny knows this, and I bet he thinks Mike Williams will get him where he needs to go. Yes, I still think it still can definitely happen.

Yeah, but, of course, we know who the real experts are!!! And anyone who dares to defy that is just pushing the PR Bandwagon!!!

You guys are funny.

We were the only team that had that fool rated in the second round.

Nobody in the league wanted his narrow ass until free agency was almost over last year, then he signed some ****ed up backloaded contract and got released after one disappointing season.

If Gruden liked him, he would have kept him, instead he cut him. Period. You think the Bucs are in a position to let good football players get away?

It IS amusing though...

I checked out some TB Buc forums to get the perspective of people that watched them on a regular basis...and almost to a man they hated that Gold left.

They seemed to think that him leaving was the Bucs worst off-season move so far and almost universally felt that he was a very good player...that was an huge asset to the team but was a SC casualty...and that is with him only playing 50% of the D-snaps last year and out of his natural position due to Brooks.

Interesting views from people that watched last year....I must admit that I did not focus on him anytime I saw part of the Bucs games...did any of you REALLY see him play last year?

Now on the other hand....one of these Buc poster guys had the following to say about Griese....so I now question the IQ level of the ENTIRE sample...

Here is the quote...

Mike Vick Started 15 games, Brian Greise started 11 games... Mike Vick completed 181 passes completion %: 56.4, Greise completed 233 completions %: 69.3
Winner Griese...

Mike Vick 2,313 passing yards... Not bad for A QB starting 15 games
Brian Griese 2,632 passing yards... Only started 11 games http://bbs.buccaneers.com/images/smilies/0wn3d.gif
Winner Griese...

Mike Vick: A Whopping 14 TD passes in 15 games... http://bbs.buccaneers.com/images/retrosmilies/eek2.gif
Brian Griese: 20 TD passes in 11 games http://bbs.buccaneers.com/images/smilies/0wn3d.gif again...
Winner Griese...

Surely Mike can win this category... Sack Yards:
Brian Griese: 169 yrds sacked (we need to work on that O-line)
Mike Vick: 266yrds sacked??? http://bbs.buccaneers.com/images/smilies/grinyes.gif it's true
Winner Griese...

Finaly the QB ratings...
Mike an astonishing 78.1
and Griese: A club record 97.5...
Winner Griese...

Finally let me stress the Point WE Have A Better QB
I'm not saying Vick is not a Gifted Athelete, He is one of the Greatest players to play the game... Given some good coaching and a good line so he wouldn't have to run, he may be able to show it more...

The Falcons are a one man show.. with out Vick Attendence is down, And the Scoring is down, and the Teams Moral is down...

The Falcons need to change their Name To: The Atlanta Vicks http://bbs.buccaneers.com/images/smilies/0wn3d.gif

Griese is a Better QB, Face It...

Who Do you Guys think Is a Better QB?]
