I just heard the Chargers are thinking of trading QB Philip Rivers and the #12 pick in the draft to San Francisco for the #1 pick in the draft and then the Chargers would draft WR Braylon Edwards with the #1 pick. Stay tuned.

That rumor was floating around on Profootballtalk.com on Tuesday.

I have a hard time seeing that deal. San Diego would have to really trust Brees and then sign him long term.

If the Chargers do that, they're really f***ing themselves on the salary cap. Remember a few months ago, when Charger fans were insisting that Rivers' contract was structured with a two-tiered bonus rather than one upfront signing bonus so Rivers was tradeable?

Yeah, well... that second tier kicked in on March 10th.

cap doesnt matter TNS, they are more than 10 million under and they havent and arent planning on making big FA splashes anyway. My best friend who is a chargers fan absolutely hates this move, i think it was rumored a few months ago also. He totally hates it. He says they dont need any WRs despite McCardell being old and Caldwell coming off of an ACL, he goes nuts anytime he reads a draft mag saying they need WRs, absolutely nuts. He really wants Marcus Spears at 12 to be a 3-4 DE or Merriman at that same spot to be a 3-4 OLB. When i told him that the chargers were interested in Oklahoma St. corner Darrent Williams perhaps somewhere on Day 1 he was going to lose it. He says Marty needs to stop sucking every corner off. I sure hope they dont draft a WR or corner in round 1, because he is coming to my place for the Draft and i dont want my stuff ****ed up.

Whoever Phillip Rivers plays for, he is going to STAR for them. I wish it was for the Broncos, but oh, well.

My two favorite players to come out (or will come out shortly) of the draft in the last 10 years is Philip Rivers and Mike Williams.

I can only DREAM if they were both on the Broncos, what a dynamic dynamite Offense we would have... :alghh:

Cap isn't what matters. What matters is that the Chargers paid out a few million just a couple weeks ago, and are now going to trade the guy away. It makes no sense for them to pay that money and then move him.

But Herc, if they really want Braylon Edwards that bad, they dont really care what they paid out a month ago.

If they wanted Edwards that bad, they would have made the move up before the 12th when the money was paid. That's horrible management if you waste a few million of your owners money because you couldn't move quickly enough.

The idiots over at the KFFL.com Vikings draft, altho it was full of crap, took D.J. over Edwards at #7.

They honestly think that Burleson is a number 1 and Robinson and Taylor are real recievers. Chicago took BMW at #4. I explanied to them that no way Minnesota passes on Edward if he is there at #7.

If they are smart, they trade for Pryce with the 18, Draft one of the big two WR's or Johnson, or even a RB is it falls...

Regardless, moving Pryce to Minnesota still makes the most sense to move up to 18 unless Dallas gives us a second.

Leave it to the Chargers to blow this one. They'll trade Rivers, Brees will sh!t out this season back to his true form and they'll be left with a first round bust of a pick....oh please make it so...AND they'll manage to f!ck up their cap situation in the process.

Yeah, but if they trade Rivers, you'd better believe that Drew Brees' agent is going to be licking his chops, knowing that he's got all the leverage when it comes time to talk turkey.

By the way, your friend drinks too much. Anybody that thinks that they're all set at receiver and invokes the name "Caldwell" to support it is either drunk or completely f***ing crazy. In his three years in the league, the most receptions he's ever notched in one season was 22. And that was his rookie year... and before he blew his ACL. I'm sure your friend is a nice guy... but he's a few sandwiches short, you know?

you see, that's why they are the chargers. they thought thomlinson + brees > vick. a team with no balls, now trying to trade away a franchise quarterback for a wide receiver. i hope they do it. that's gonna put'em back for another 5 yrs.

I talked to a sportswriter in Frisco who believes any deal would include cash...a rarity in NFL trades of any kind these days, so perhaps SF might be willing to pay back the bonus.

Regardless, the Chargers currently have the best of all possible situations. If they find a way to piss it away it should be carefully documented as a warning to future generations

The Chargers are $11.1 million under the cap. It wouldn't hurt them to trade him. That would be a great pickup for the 49ers. Get their franchise QB and still get a first round pick! I would do it if I was the 49ers.

you know, the chances of that happening are actually pretty good. I can't see Brees having another great season, let alone a good one. i see them at 9-7 this year and crying about rivers if they make this trade.

I think Brees will have a good, not great, year and if they can get Edwards they will have a very good offense with Edwards, LT and Gates.
