Updating a previous report, the Denver Broncos have announced the signing of LB Keith Burns (Buccaneers). Terms of the deal were undisclosed.

Still no word (as of yet) from C. Brown.

Good - could be nice depth. If not he becomes an assistant coach.

Burns, Alexander Hop on Board

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Broncos remembered the Titan.

Keith Burns, a product of the Alexandria, Va. high school immortalized in Remember the Titans, returned to the Broncos on Friday, signing a deal to don orange and blue after a one-season sojourn with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Burns' return comes just over three weeks after Ian Gold made the same round-trip, coming back to the Broncos on March 3 after joining the Bucs in free agency last offseason.

The 12th-year veteran became one of the Broncos' emotional leaders during nine seasons with the club from 1994-98 and again from 2000-04. By the time Burns departed for Tampa Bay in 2004, he'd become the team's special-teams captain.

Burns' tackle totals have increased with age. His career high of 24 tackles on special teams was established in 2000 and matched in 2003; he added 23 special-teams tackles and forced a fumble for the Bucs last year.

He first joined the Broncos as a seventh-round selection in 1994 and started once as a rookie, amassing 18 total tackles on defense and then adding 22 more in 1995. But it would be on special teams where Burns found his long-term calling.

Burns hasn't missed a game since 1999, playing in every game since rejoining the Broncos on Sept. 19, 2000 after a one-year stop with the Chicago Bears.

ALEXANDER OFFICIALLY SIGNS

All the paperwork is signed and sealed for tight end Stephen Alexander, bringing the eighth-year veteran to the Broncos as an unrestricted free agent.

The former Pro Bowler spent 2004 with the Detroit Lions after playing for the San Diego Chargers in 2002 and 2003, where his position coach was current Broncos tight ends coach Tim Brewster. Alexander began his career by playing four seasons with the Washington Redskins, who drafted him with the 48th pick in the 1998 NFL Draft.

Last year, he posted the third 40-catch season of his career, snaring 41 passes for 377 yards for the Lions. Alexander also had 45 catches for the Chargers in 2002 and 47 for the Redskins in 2000.

He only played in three games in 2003 because of a groin injury that eventually forced him to injured reserve. He also underwent ankle surgery following the 2004 season.

Alexander is the third tight end to join the Broncos in unrestricted free agency the last two years. Both of the 2004 signees at the position -- O.J. Santiago and Jed Weaver -- did not make the 53-man regular-season roster.

He's a great special teams player and a great clubhouse guy. He was a member of our team for quite a while, and I think its great to get some of our TEAM back. (instead of just a bunch of Individuals) That's also why I want Pryce back. Keep these guys that made us a cohesive team. I think its great, great to have a little glue back.

BTW- I want Pryce back, BAD. In fact the only way I would want him traded is if we could Aquire Mike Williams for him. I wouldn't think twice about it either. Other than that, I WANT TREVOR BACK!!!

I love Keith Burns! He goes all out on special teams. Great leader to have back. I was just wondering where we were with him this morning! I remember reading in the Post that they were talking a few weeks ago but then nothing new. Welcome back!

how did burns do last year as a buc? i loved him when he was here TWO YEARS AGO, and hope he still has some left.

but then, why are we picking up all the rejects? aren't there any better ones out there? wasn't ian gold a buc, too, last year? i mean, we let go of them first place. bucs signed them with more money, but after one year they don't want them anymore. then we pay a huge signing bonus (not burns i hope) to bring him back.

what the hell's going on here?

Keith Burns is to the locker room as Shannon Sharpe was. I think this is a huge addition. Takes pressure off of rod smith to be the sole leader.

yeah, someone needs to let Shanny know that you can't combine the legs of 3 crappy punters to make a good one.

(Phone rings) "Hey Keith!!! it's Ray Lewis on the phone, he want's to talk with you." Keith: "Uhhhhh, tell him i'm not home and to stop calling here harrassing me." Ray Lewis: "I heard what he just said, just tell him that i'm glad he's back with the Broncos and that i look forward to seeing him later this year, and tell him i send my love." ;)

absolutely!!

Many people may wash this one away as nothing about nothing. But they will be so wrong. I think this is a major deal. Definitely a big step in the right direction.

People rant on about the GayTriots and how they have all these no name team players.

Well, here's a new flash, thats what were trying to do here. Cooper, Putz, Ian and Burns. These are our (management's) guys. They have a concept of what they want their team to be, and what their role players, team players and "real football players" should be.

Players like these mold our football team, and make it what it is. It is all about the system that creates the team that our football players will be. You have the dedicated players, the system and you set a standard and you stick to it. That is what makes champions and that is what will bring the championship back to Denver.

Wasn't this guy slow as a rookie? OK fine, but isn't Pierce supposed to do SOMETHING OUT THERE?

This guy wears a toupe. Taking one for the team when he got murdered by Ray Ray....I'll let him play...man...he got totally wiped out on that one...typical cheap shot by Lewis, peelback on a freak play. Nice call by Shanahan on that one. Let's try a FG from 90 freaking yards and not remind special teams that you can return a failed FG attempt.

What a ****ing embarrasment. I swear we have more than our share, unless you have watched the Vikings and Marshall running a fumble back for a TD, or Tony Dorsett run for a 99 yard rushing TD with two clips.

I suppose we could always light up Dante' Hall's return with THREE clips but who's counting on that one. The announcers jacked themselves off on that travesty for three months.

Burnsie is a good lockerroom guy and good special teamer. Id be happier though if we didnt have 9 trillion linebackers on the roster. Still, he has intangible value here. That one quote after the playoff game at KC was great.."they can have the AFC West, we got this one baby"

I am impressed that his numbers stayed so high with Tampa Bay. Mr Burns?! That's too funny. Having an on field Special Teams coach is important but better than that I wish I could Donald Trump whoever is supposed to be pulling that wagon.

Damn, must've msised one your great daily reports...so, the owners actually approved the ban on the blindside hit/block?

I'm just a tad disappointed really.

Sure, I hated to see it happen to a Bronco, but it was great fun when it was someone else.

I remember years ago center Billy Bryan just wiped out Brian Bosworth with a blindsider...that, after a game in which Bosworth yelled & screamed and jumped up & down as he was prone to do...really annoying fellow.

He didn't seem too frisky after that.

Gold's contract with the Bucs was rediculesly huge. It was also very backloaded and obvious that it was in essence a one year deal. Everyone knew he was only going to play one year with the Bucs.

Burns and Sharpe were best friends. They were weight lifting partners. Sharpe told Burns that he would give him his Mercedes if Burns got his body fat to 4% which he did.

I would think that is the special teams coaches job to tell his players about that.

Gee Shanny gets blamed for everything.
