Denver: Otherwise known as, "What do you think of Tatum Bell?" Pompei says that Denver needed a linebacker more than a running back, and that "knowing the Broncos, Tatum Bell will develop into a 1,000-yard back." Prisco says Bell "has the speed to become an effective force." On the other hand, Borges says Bell isn’t as good as the backs taken before him, and Dr. Z says Bell is fast but "not a guy who does really tough things out there." He then compares him to Trung Canidate, which I think qualifies as damning with faint praise. As for the other players, everyone likes CB Jeremy LeSueur from Michigan, but many of the second day players were frowned upon. The Huddle Report hates this draft after the Broncos chose four players who didn’t even make their top 300, plus Marshall wide receiver Darius Watts way earlier than they had to no matter how much they liked him (ranked 150, chosen 54). Borges really slams the Watts pick, saying he’s "not the answer, unless they were looking for a guy as skinny as retired Ed McCaffrey." But can Watts make mustard?

Well, that is totally classic. Who the hell do you think we took with the first pick? Yes, a linebacker. As far as Bell goes, I am not anymore sold than I was the day he was drafted. I don't think he had surgury on his shoulder, and if Droughns goes, what is left? Freaking Q?
As far as Watts goes, it was a major major reach. Third round was worse. The rest was garbage as well.
As bad as it was, the 2003 draft was even worse on the second day. Foster never saw the field early, nursing an ankle, but that wasn't the real problem compared to the joke that continued. We got Pierce, who hasn't proven squat, and a bunch of players that were cut.
The best draft choice in recent memory was traded for Bell and the 63 million dollar corner.
After rebounding in 2002, Denver's drafts have been horrible. Even Foster was taken WAY too high. Add that to Middlebrooks and Deltha. Drafting Pierce, then resigning Wilson made no sense. Even when we hit paydirt, Portis goes for a high priced FA, and we now are making D.J. Williams move to Sam to accomidate Gold, AGAIN. Meanwhile, a player that Mock loved, Berry, was allowed to leave and is sipping cocktails in Hawaii.
It doesn't take a genius to know our drafting sucks. Instead of using FA's to shore up holes, we have been drafting FA's to fill holes of horrible picks. Watts looks like a twig, we are placing our hopes on another that allready was broken up last year, and is way way too tall to cover the stop and go, exactly what I said would happen, will happen again, and we don't have the cover safety to go over the top and pick off that play. So we are spending tons of cash on Bailey, who played only above average, honestly, only slightly above Herndon. Add in the DL problems, and look at who we have that was drafted we have left. Monsanto Pope on DL. Dorsett Davis. The whole secondary is all free agents basically, despite drafting again and again and again high on the secondary.

When I see the guns on Ed the last thing I'm thinking is, "Damn, that guy is skinny."
