View Full Version : Why the hate?

Disclaimer: Because I am well aware that www.orangemane.com is mainly situated in the Denver, Colorado area, I am also well aware I will receive extreme hatred in this forum. I am willing to give up some rep points to put out this message in this forum to all Kobe haters.

The definition of a fan is simple. A fan follows a team through ups and downs, even if 80% of the team is lost in the offseason and replaced with sweaty-palmed, rim-loving old men who just can't play. Even if they lose. Even if they don't win a championship. Denver fans know. You've followed the Broncos and the Nuggets through ups and downs. Please speak up.

As a Laker fan, I experience the same. The boo-ing. The "BEAT L.A. chants." The "rapist" chants. Heck, in a magazine, the Lakers were voted "FAVORITE TEAM TO ROOT AGAINST." Makes me feel real special, don't it?

The following article totally represents my pain and my feelings through this hate. Please read and holla.

GAMEPOINT- by scoop jackson

He’s become the Kay Slay of the NBA: The Drama King. His life has now become the black male reality version of Desperate Housewives. His stock has dropped like Tyco. And that street cred everyone thought he was trying to earn? Negro, please.

His name was Kobe Bryant. He used to be your hero. He was better than the next best thing to god 23 – he was next, period. He shifted the landscape. He had everything MJ had and was on the verge of remixing it. The blueprint was in place: three rings in five years; the plan was in effect: McDonald’s, Nike, America; the setup was set up: Grant Hill without the injuries.

Then…

It seemed like from either the day Jerry West left the Lakers or the day Kobe got married, his life has not been the same. Neither has he. From one incident to the next allegation to the next occurrence to another circumstance, Kobe’s life, off the court- has been one suicidal tendency after the next. A fall from grace. Some have said Kobe brough all this on himself, and that his “b*t*h ass” deserves everything that is happening to him- and these are peoploe who think he’s innocent of sexual assault. The resentment is reaching Barry Bonds/Terrell Owens combined numbers. Time went the farthest, calling him “the poster boy for athlete’s arrogance.”

Is this where we’re at with Kobe Bryant now? Has his “self-imposed self-destruction” taken you to a place where, if Jerry West doesn’t come back to save L.A., Kob’ll be the Benzino of the basketball world? Did you not watch him drop 48 on the Raptors because the media blamed him for destroying a fallen dynasty that wasn’t winning chips? Will you not buy Nike Hauraches because he’s in them? Did you go to church on ‘em and scream hallelujah on Christmas Day when his 43rd, 44th, and 45th points missed at the buzzer? When Shaq won? When Phil proves right? When the Lakers hit rock bottom? When Dr. Buss sells the franchise? When Kobe retires 10 years before his skills erode and Ricky Williamses himslef from society?

Is this what you want? Is this what will make you happy?

Or should the real question be asked: What did Kobe actually do wrong? To any of you? Personally? To make you feel the way you do about him? To hate him the way you do now?

The job of a journalist is to be objective, the job of a friend is to be loyal. The job of a man is to make that choice.

If Kobe Bryant wants to live with high drama defining his life, if he wants to put himself into, or make public, situations that will have a negative effect on how he’s perceived and lose both money and trust; if he wants to trick-off on Shaq and Malone; if he wants to turn the world that was once his oyster into an island that is no his clam; so be it. So what. It’s his one life to live, his Stringer Bell to keep him alive. The name of his birth certificate reads Kobe Bean Byrant. The name of his tombstone will read the same. In between, as long as he continues dropping almost 30-per, human highlighting arenas and plasma screens, and has the squad that was supposed to be at the top of the Lottery still outballin’ the Clippers, who am I – or you – to pray and prey for his downfall? Objectively, ask yourself that question.

At the 2004 All-Star Game, my kids saw Kobe. They ran to him. He grabbed them and gave them the biggest hug they’d gotten from any ballplayer at media availability. Then he went on to treat my shorties as if they were his. No one else did that. And y’all want me to despise him? Sell him out? Spit on his grave? America, please.

My name was Scoop Jackson, I was an objective journalist. I am a friend of Kobe Bryant. If you read this expecting me to hate on Kobe for becoming what he’s become in your eyes, you’ve just read the wrong “b*t*h ass” column.

No one cares about miniscule mathematic possibilities. This is like a 49er fan saying since everyone is 0-0 no matter how are teams look, we have a CHANCE to win the super bowl like everyone else. Its absolutely ludicrous statement. Go cling to your 0.5% chance. This isnt reasonably up for debate. 5.5 back with 15 to go and a tougher schedule remaining. Done.

I started rooting for the Lakers when Wilt and West were still suiting up, but I began getting tired of the soap opera a few years ago. The last Laker loss that hurt me in the slightest was that of the great Chick Hearn.

I was praying that Shaq, Kobe and Phil Jackson would all leave so Jerry West could return and construct yet another dynasty in Los Angeles. Only got two out of three, though.......:pity:

You can candy coat it anyway you like and defend him to the end but, the truth is we cannot win a Championship without a dominant center! Miami is going to win it all... The have the Heart of the Lakers on their team

I'm just not buying that. Right now, Shaq is going 34.3 minutes per game and he's averaging 22.7 PPG, 10.5 boards, 2.8 assists, and 2.4 blocks. Last year, Shaq went 36.8 minutes per game and averaged 21.5 PPG, 11.5 boards, 2.9 assists, and 2.5 blocks.

What Shaq is doing in Miami is no different than what he did last year for us. And how much of Kobe's success is attributable to the fact that nobody in the entire league had an answer for O'Neal, other than intentionally fouling him?

Look, I'm not saying Kobe sucks because he certainly doesn't... but he'd be a hell of a lot easier to replace than Shaq because, frankly, there is nobody else even remotely like Shaq.

Yeah, now Shaq's in shape. He was a 400 pound tub of guts the last couple years in LA. Kobe was 100% correct for calling Shaq out for delaying his toe surgery until just before the season started a few years ago. Shaquille was blatantly stealing money from the franchise. I was glad they didn't win another title that year because Shaq disrespected his fans, his teammates, and the very game itself.

Reminds me of Roger Clemens his last few years in Boston. Big, surly fatass with a .500, some years sub-.500, record. What happens? The Red Sox get rid of him, he rededicates himself the next year and wins back to back Cy Youngs in Toronto. Shaq is doing essentially the same thing in Miami.

Not to say I was on Kobe's side during their long pissing match. I grew to hate both of them. I've always hated Phil Jackson and was surprised to see I actually hated him more when he was coaching my team.

I miss Jerry West.

All I know is the Magic Johnson Showtime Lakers elevated the game to an artform. Their duels with the Bird/McHale/Parrish Celtics were truly legendary.

The League really screwed themselves when they allowed Chuck Daly and his filthy Piston thugs to drag the game into the gutter. Daly knew the refs wouldn't call fouls on every single possession and the sport suffered greatly as a result. Plus, they made Scottie Pippen cry. Well, okay, that part was funny.

Oh, God, the Michael Jordan impersonation he used to do in interviews made me cringe. I almost prefer the alleged rapist persona.

So you had no problem with Shaquille putting off his toe surgery for months, until just before the start of the season, thereby screwing all chance of a fourth straight title? What did Dr Buss pay Shaq for that Jake job? $30 million?
Of course I was irritated by Shaq putting the surgery off. But that doesn't mean that Shaq costs us a 4th title. Did we or did we not make it to the finals that year? And in the finals that year, our entire team sucked. You can't put that on Shaq.

Been a laker fan since the 70's. Became a bandwagon fan growing up in Colorado watching Wilt. Never could get into the Nuggets... but I wish them well.

That said..... I don't much care for 'KB' team'. I want my Lakers back. I miss show-time and the whole team concept. Nothing but respect for KB's top shelf talent but we should have kept shaq.

If only KB could have played nice with the big guy and respected his elders, the Lakers would have dominated for years.

The Lakers have been gutted like no other team. All a Laker fan can do is hold his/her nose and soldier on.

Better days will come and the Lakers will rise again. That's why the hate will never die down.

Dang. I counted?

Jealousy = Hatred
Hatred = Lakers

No sense making it a complicated equation.

Jealousy = Jealousy
Hatred = Hatred
Lakers = Not My Team = Don't Care

There now. Much simpler.

okay, late to the party, but is this for real?

why the hate on kobe?

oh gee, i dont know.
how about this.

he came out of high school (shouldnt have) and acted as if he was basketballs crowned prince, even brushing off the greatest power forward of all time when said forward tried to set a pick for him in an allstar game.

he helped his team win three championships, all the while having MULTIPLE bitch sessions because he didnt get the ball enough, because people (correctly i might add) praised shaq and not him as the teams #1 player and leader.

he took that bitching to the next level, and was pretty much solely responsible for the breakup of what COULDVE been one of the best teams in nba history (as a nugget fan i LOVE this, but if i were a LAKER fan id hate him for it)

he's MUCH happier being "the man" and "dropping" 40 on the raptors than he is being a PART of a winning TEAM.

he actually has the nerve to call his teammates "his" players.

is he a rapist?

hmm, i dont think so to be honest, and that doesnt make him innocent.
he still cheated on his beautiful young bride.
excuse?
there isnt one. it was crap. apparently commandment #7 isnt real high on the kobe priority list.

why hate him?
really?

geez, there's too many reasons to list.

he's an obnoxious, self righteous, arrogant punk. that about covers it.
yes, he's an amazing basketball talent...

....at the expense of his teams success.

praise him for it if you like.
if youre a LAKER fan, you SHOULD despise him for it.

Magic was as good as anyone who ever played the game. No player ever elevated his teammates the way Magic did. If James Worthy doesn't twist his ankle on fat **** Duckworth's foot in the WCF, Magic wins his sixth trophy with Divac at center.

lets not forget that magic PLAYED center when kareem was hurt...

....and played quite well.

magic johnson is the best player in the history of the game, and i HATE the lakers.
i just see greatness regardless of the color it wears.
magic made players around him better. magic made EVERY player around him better.

Why do I hate Kobe...lets see...SELFISH...he wants to be the face of the NBA all by himself. A truely talented player realizes he is only as good as the players around him. That is why he and Shaq butted heads because Shaq just wanted a little recognition for being a large part of the reason for Kobe's success and Kobe just said "blah blah blah...GO KOBE....I am god" Jordan tried for years to do it himself...realized that it took teammates and won strait titles...twice.

You want to know why everyone hates Kobe??
Because he is an arrogant little prick

He ran off the best center and the best coach in the game so he could have the spotlight all to himself.

At best He cheated on his wife and then buys her a $4 million ring and makes everything all right. At worst he is a rapist.

and he has the funniest receding hairline I have ever seen!!

I don't know what kind of a person Kobe is off the court, but I fully support him on the court. He is an amazing player whose skills are matched only by a rare few.

For those of you who are happy the Lakers aren't going to make the playoffs....you should do your homework. If the Lakers fail to make the playoffs they'll be assured a lottery pick which they get to keep. If they do make the playoffs then they'll lose their first round draft pick to Boston for the Payton/Mihm trade and probably get knocked out in the first round anyway.

You know why Laker fans hold their noses up to everybody? It's not that we think we are better (we know it), it's because we're looking up at our 14 championship banners.

Sparky, the Celtics and their 16 are laughing at you while you show off your feathers.

F**k the Lakers, F**k Kobe, F**k the "fans" (real fans like Slap are obviously excluded here). You wonder why everyone hates your crappy franchise? Arrogant ass rants/comments like the ones from Jason and you (the thread starter). Think about it Sparky. No one bloody cares. Besides, when your damn arena isd only half full at the start of a game, it's pretty obvious that your own damn fans don't care either.

can't we all just get along and agree to hate scoop jackson *
