View Full Version : Quentin Griffin Question...

I saw thin in another thread... Pulled out of a Rocky Mountain News report, I believe:

Shanahan said Quentin Griffin, who is recovering from surgery to repair the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, has started to run during rehabilitation but is not making cuts.

Just curious to get people's thoughts on this guy.

I like Q. I definately think he will help us next year. A lot of people tear on him for the fumbling and the way the season just turned on him... there was a lot of pressure though. Coming in as a reserve and off an injury, I think we'll see Q play a special role on offense with 3rd downs maybe at HB but also a little at WR where we can use him for screens.

If used properly I can see him being a very effective weapon assuming the injury doesn't take away his cutback ability. He'll be a nice 3rd down back, and I can see him beng a very effective punt returner if given the opportunity.

Back when Shanahan drafted Q, I thought he had a role for him not unlike what KC has for Dante Hall. They are both small, shifty players that can get up to full speed quickly. I thought he would be the Broncos next return guy and 3rd down weapon. Anything beyond that may be wishful thinking on his part.

He'll be a 3rd team back at most if he makes the team.

If after the injury, he is no longer fast or able to cut on a dime, like before the injury...then he becomes just a very undersized football player.

I hope he regains his speed, cutting, and confidence...if not, he'll have a very tough time.

Worst Running Back Ever.....still..

I turned on the guy for the Jacksonville fumble, hell yeah. That was a bread and butter play and he flat out dropped the pill. He wasn't going for yardage, he was supposed to be getting to the middle of the field, get what you can, and bring in Elam. Instead....pukes the ball up and the game with it. God that pissed me off, I'm still bitter. Last year I was hoping MA would get some more carries, he runs hard and punishes defenders, Q went down easy...like a cheap whore, I'm pretty giddy to see what Spud Bell can do when given a chance. But still down on Q, although I would like to see him get 100+yds so I can change my sig line.....Does preseason count?

I think I would like to see him catching passes out of the backfield. If he can catch the ball well I think he can have a place on this team. He is cheap also. I really don't see no long term impact though. Once his contract is up he is gone.

I'd agree with this, except the play called was not up the middle. It was to the left (on TV) off tackle. Either way the fg probably would have been blocked and we would have had to hate on Elam all year. The smart call would have been a mini-sneak to the right (on tv) to set up the ball in the middle of the field. But lets face facts. We didn't do a damn thing the entire game. We didn't deserve to win the jagoff game.

I still see potential in this kid. What I don't understand is why we haven't been using him on special teams. I bet he could be a good answer to Dante Hall.

Didn't Q run for over 100 against the Chiefs week 1?

Not if he keeps fumbling. I don't think he'd be any more than a "poor man's" Dante Hall, either, especially after the ACL.

he has fast feet but he is slow in straight ahead speed....plus he fumbles to much.

This is what I've been saying too.... I like Q. He is bigger than Hall, and if he can regain his moves, I think he could be a valubale special teamer.

I don't really see it. He isn't near as fast as Hall. Hall also has tremendous instincts doing those returns. I don't see him being better than Drougns.

Can you say "Punt Returner"? That's all he will be good for. Either that or he can back up Gold at weakside LB.

Really?

Dante Hall 5-8 187

Q 5-7 195

Not much difference.

Yes, get comic book guy in here: "Worst. Running Back. Ever."

He'd be a valuable sideline asset though, getting Tatum and Big Rueben water when they got off the field.

Although if he regains his speed, he'll be better than anybody else we have returning kicks/punts.

Just curious to get people's thoughts on this guy.

Seems like a nice kid and a character guy...

He is great in space but he simply falls down too quickly on contact. Even when returning kickoffs last year first time someone brushes up against him he is on the ground.

I'd like to see him return some punts in preseason (assuming healthy) and see what he can do in a broken field.

He can catch swing passes out of the backfield, but beyond that I think he is a non-factor on offense. Bell is the guy.

I like Q. He can come over for Barbecue anytime. He can marry my sister.

After the Broncos cut him I'll be happy to write him kind words of encouragement wishing him well.

Q has to show a kind of confidence he's not shown up to this point. He has prove he's fearless and relentless to make the Broncos team. He doesn't have to loud talk. All he has to do is run the ball.

EDIT:
Q needs a chance somewhere else. Broncos aren't going to put this guy in a position to win. Cito is right. He's a special talent. He needs to heal that ACL. He can play at this level but the Broncos have play him smarter.

TNS: I was never high on Q. I wanted him to do well but I didn't think he was the buttered bisquit everyone else did.

I think if they used him as a 3rd down back more often hed be more effective. As a PR/KR his speed would help back there. Shanny needs to get more creative with the plays to use his speed on offense.

It seems like only a year ago that people here were comparing him to Joe Morris.

Oh wait... it was.

I'm not posting that as a "ha ha ha, told you so" kind of thing... but it really just amazes me how quickly fans turn on players. I liked Justin Fargas when we drafted him and I still like him. Yeah, I'd like to see him stay healthy... and, yeah, I'd like to see him hold the rock a little tighter... but, damn, you guys had him penciled in as "about as good as Portis" last year and this year, you've got him selling insurance.

Q is a unique talent. This guy is worth 10-12 TD's a yr, if ShanaKubiak use him properly. Q should have 3 plays a game designed exclusively to get him the ball at LB depth. That means he's on the field for 10-12 O plays a game, so the D can't key on him for those 3 plays designed exclusively for him, but that should not be a problem with all the 4-5 receiver sets we see from the Broncs.

If Al Saunders was running this O, you would have seen Q getting those 10-12 TD's last year instead of that laughable starting at RB, then hey we'll use him at KR incredible waste of talent we saw from ShanaKubiak last year.

I hope they let him go, so at least the guy can make a career where the O staff use him properly. Give him one more year to let the ACL heal properly, let him go to KC, and Vermeil/Saunders will get a lot of TD's out of that guy. That's one O coaching staff that could maximize his talent. Billick in Baltimore might have the imagination to use Q's talent, maybe Minnesota, maybe NE. I'm kind of stumped for others, so I'm not just bashing Shanny. Don Shula, Don Coryell, Bill Walsh certainly would have put this guy to good use.

Sorry, this just struck me real funny. not because he could play a 3rd down role but at Wideout? on a screen? lmao! jake has enough problems finding his target and now you want him to pinpoint on a 5 ft. dwarf from Lord of the Rings? LMAO!

In my opinion Fargas has way more talent than Q but that is a different story. ive never really liked Q even when he was at College. he is fast but just way too small. the best kind of back is the all around back much like a Terrell Davis.
