And GM cuts 05 outlook by 80%. The U.S. Automakers and the Airlines could be in real trouble if oil keeps going up!

Good. We could use some imposed discipline on our auto-buying and auto-using habits.
When I was in Geneva late last summer, gas prices were 1.46-1.54 Swiss francs/litre - that's between $4.38 - $4.65 per gallon.
We got a ways to go to get to European levels.

The only good thing about it would be if we had someone in the WH that understood the importance of moving to renewable energy ASAP and imposing mandatory MPG requirements on new vehicles not punching more holes in the ground as a solution.

Delta's going under and Maria ****smell continues to rail against oil production. I wonder how her homestate outfit of Boeing is going to do when there is nobody to sell their commercial planes to. Sen. John John rails against production, Sen. Boxer rails against it. This is getting funny. CA likes their boutique specially made gas so it runs higher than the national average.
And no, you're not going to have ANY alternate sources of fuel or energy for the forseeable future. I guarantee I won't be the first flying on the solar powered 747. Hug a tree for your tomorrow....HA

this was particaly addressed in the Congress votes down the min wage ...... everything going up but wages , but het we got the 300.00 tax check back , so in the long run , the 300.00 was worth it some .......
The worst part is the American Dollar is getting weak , I think we should look into making the US dollar strong again ..... Alternitive fuels , could be that avenue , to the one that says we are not on the same price as Europe , He is right , thats we alot of dont live in euorpe ...... and not to mention the fact that if Euorpeans think it is ok to pay those Prices , doesnt make it ok to pay the high Prices here .......
We do have ethenol , Bio deisel , and we are looking into Methane gas farms , If we can switch the other uses , we use oil for ( I forget the precentage , but the auto consume small amount of oil of our total oil consumption ) that would go along ways into keeping our Prices in Utilites , and at the Pump Low .......

I oppose mandatory MPG requirements - if you want a Hummer, and are willing to spend mucho buckos to fill it up at $3/gallon, be my guest. I expect to see quite a few near-new SUVs (with lots of payments left) filling up used-car lots in the next couple years. Spending $40,000-$50,000 on a behemoth that gets 12mpg is just plain stupid, and those who did so are gonna start crying. Let 'em weep.

LOL ......I am not defending the Hummer nor am i disputing the Mandatory MPG requirements , there is alot of merit to your point , but what I am laughing at is those that Need to use the Big Pickups .... They are the Big Behemoths , that suck up alot of Gas / Diesel ...

Look at the problem realistically. If we drilled ANWR and got 1 mil a day out of it our dependency on foreign oil would be reduced in 2025 form 68% to 66%. What's the point?
Just saying renewable energy won't work is short-sided and ignorant. It won't work if we don't spend the money to make it work (R&D).
The only way possible to wean ourselves from oil and quit funding terrorism is to move to renewable and alternate energies ASAP!

We are investing in the R&D. Clean coal initiatives, gas hydrates, hydrogen fuel cells, coal gasification, just to name a few. Next generation nuclear power facilities, it is all happening. Try reading the budget proposal instead of taking someone's word for it. It's all at www.doe.gov (at least the Department of Energy's budget) Take a look, track the legislation, get involved.
The US coal reserves are greater than the Oil reserves of the middle east. Coal is what we've got and we've got a lot of it.

I agree, there is way too much money spent on less important programs. We probably disagree on which, but I think the $56 Billion to the department of ed is a good place to start eliminating.
