I'm not going to list all the movies I have, but I usually go to Wal-Mart, a used DVD shop, or video stores wanting to get rid of their extra DVDs cheaply. I've built up quite a collection doing it that way. I usually stick with the comedy genre. I have a few horror movies, some action movies, and some movies that I keep out of sight downstairs... :wiggle:

Too many to name but favourites include: Last of the Mohicans, Heat, Goodfellas, Best Shot and Weekend at Bernies.

My son is 3 years old and his favourite films are Jurassic Park 1,2 and 3. Think he's gonna be the next Ross Gellar LOL

My list:

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

That's it.

And that was a gift.

Seriously I've never understood the need to own movies. After you've seen it a few times do you just keep watching it over and over?

Don't you get tired of it ever?

Many of the movies I'm seeing listed are regulars on cable anyway.

To each his own I guess.

BTW Netflix rocks.

Ummmmmm

My list:

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

And that was a gift.

Seriously I've never understood the need to own movies. After you've seen it a few times do you just keep watching it over and over?

Don't you get tired of it ever?

Many of the movies I'm seeing listed are regulars on cable anyway.

To each his own I guess.

BTW Netflix rocks.
I dont rent movies anymore, so I just buy them. Why pay 5 buck to rent it while I can own it for 5 to 10 bucks.
If I dont like it I can sell it on ebay. Why wait for cable to air a cut up movie, while you can acess any movie you like. Sometimes late at night I am in the mood for a certain type of movie(no not porn, you pervets!......hmmm.... thats not a bad Idea.)

:)
I have about 300 or so, didn't buy any of them. Most are older movies with a few newer ones mixed in. A lot of Bogart, DeNiro, Bronson, Marvin, Ahnold, Hitchcock, Wayne, Sellers, Stewart, Walken, Washington, Travolta, etc...
Like the Jason Bourne movies, older ones like Stalag 17, The Bridge On The River Kwai.

If anyone likes Christopher Walken make sure you see one of his older movies, The Dogs Of war.

There are lots of differents sets that feature various episodes of his variety show - that went from the early 50's through the 60's. He was one of the greatest mimes of all time, and his variety show featured lots of the big names at the time. There was a real political edge to a lot of his humor. (He despised Richard Nixon & made no bones about it.) He was also an early environmentalist. He & Lucy were considered the two top clowns in Hollywood. She was also a great mime, and some of the stuff they did together is amazing.

One of my favorite movies of all time is a cartoon called Watership down. It is very good. It's about a "tribe" of Rabbits. The farmers flood their holes and as they flee the farmers areshooting them and their dogs chasing them. They go on an adventure to find another home and they have fights with other tribes of rabbits and all the other dangers rabbits face in the wild. It is really bloody but very good. It would be good for 7 or 8 year olds to watch but I haven't let my 4 year old watch it yet.

It is a very good film.

If anyone is interested they can find it on ebay. It's a classic. It's a british cartoon and was much more popular over there.

Too many to list - I like to keep my posts short, you know.

I'll give my Top 10 or 20, but horror films don't count - I love lots of them,
but as "films" they pretty much suck (e.g. Night of the Living Dead).
And no Woody Allen, because there's too many, and they speak on a different
level . . .

My (rough) Top 10-20 (no particular order):

Wonder Boys
American Beauty
Lone Star
Double Indemnity
Rounders
Contact
Airplane
The Spanish Prisoner
Sunset Boulevard (you haven't lived until you see Jack Webb in that one)
North by Northwest
The Player
Caddyshack
Angel Eyes
The Paper (probably #1)
Jacob's Ladder
Pleasantville
State and Main
The Salton Sea
Hard Eight
Shawshank Redemption
War Games

The Fugitive, Godfathers and Tombstone are also "perfect films", I just don't personally love them enough for my "Top 20" status

Also - for the OrangeMane crowd - I highly recommend The 25th Hour.

It's a gritty, street crime drama by Spike Lee - starring Edward Norton.

Look for TONY SIRAGUSA in a pretty big supporting role, and (although I wouldn't have believed this until I saw it) -
he is EXCELLENT!

He did stuff that still boggles the mind, AND did it all himself.

Too many to list - I like to keep my posts short, you know.

I'll give my Top 10 or 20, but horror films don't count - I love lots of them,
but as "films" they pretty much suck (e.g. Night of the Living Dead).
And no Woody Allen, because there's too many, and they speak on a different
level . . .

My (rough) Top 10-20 (no particular order):

Wonder Boys
American Beauty
Lone Star
Double Indemnity
Rounders
Contact
Airplane
The Spanish Prisoner
Sunset Boulevard (you haven't lived until you see Jack Webb in that one)
North by Northwest
The Player
Caddyshack
Angel Eyes
The Paper (probably #1)
Jacob's Ladder
Pleasantville
State and Main
The Salton Sea
Hard Eight
Shawshank Redemption
War Games

________________________________

The Fugitive, Godfathers and Tombstone are also "perfect films", I just don't personally love them enough for my "Top 20" status

I'm going to pretend that I didn't see Angel Eyes on that list....you say it's even better than other so called "perfect films"? Wow. I definitely threw up in my mouth a little with that one.

No - Angel Eyes is not a perfect film - but it's on my "favorite" list. I hope you're not just 'J-Lo hating' when you evaluate the film ... I mean, I'm fine with hating J-Lo - she seems like an idiot. But I hope such concerns don't affect how you view the film.

It has a powerful dual-storyline, and some of the best real-life person-to-person dialog I've heard in awhile. Examples:

* The ongoing theme of leaving the door open, "door issues."
* The theme of calling and saying, "hang up, I want to talk to your machine."
* The scene at the end - I thought riveting - where she does her video congrats to her estranged father on the videotape, talking about her memories of him when she was a kid. He's quietly listening around the corner out of sight in the hall, and appears moved by her words.

Now, 99.99999999% of writer/directors could not POSSIBLY restrain themselves from writing in a big, emotional hug and happy-happy joy-joy. But this guy (I can't remember who) lets her finish her little talk, and then leave the party, while we watch the father in the hallway - seemingly moved - and we're left to imagine the future for the two, an awkward resolution apparently in their future.

I just have great respect for that kind of retraint in cinema story-telling. All the car-chase, gun-shot, explosion guys are the EXACT SAME GUYS who could never in a million years resist the "big-hug" temptation there.

Although, if they had hugged, the movie prolly wouldda made more money! ugh!~

Regarding my J-Lo point, above . . .

I'll give you a PERFECT example about how what you know about an actor's REAL life can blind you to excellence. Do you know Spike Lee's gritty street-crime drama The 25th Hour starring Edward Norton?

Well, guess what? TONY SIRAGUSA (yes, THAT Tony Siragusa) has a pretty sizeable supporting role in that film. He plays a criminal-enforcer type partner of Norton's, and his performance is damn good. He is beautifully restrained and does a spot-on russian accent! When I first saw it, I kept telling my girlfriend "I think that actor is Tony Siragusa - but no way - it can't be."

Now that's a compliment. Staring at Tony Siragusa on the screen - with his UNIQUE physical appearance - and deciding it was not actually him. I can't think of a better compliment for an actor.

(Although now, if you see it, my little review here will prolly taint your appreciation. ??? )

13. The Life of Brian
14. Casino
15. BraveHeart

Yep. It doesn't get much better than Buster sitting forlornly on the train gears as they start moving in The General.

If you are a fan, you need to invest in the Kino box set. It cost me 150 clams, but it was worth every penny.

Dude - I used to live in the "Buster Keaton Suite" at the Alexandria Hotel in downtown Los Angeles - Room 800 - true story. It's a 1901 run-down hotel, but he lived there while he was in LA making movies apparently, there's a little plaque on the door. Valentino lived there too, on the 11th.

The "Suite" had lost some of its luster by the time I was there, though . . .

Nice list. Some fairly esoteric selections. If you're a Romero fan, you should check out The Last Man on Earth, starring Vincent Price, for a look at the source material. Price is a little miscast, but still more than capable in the lead role. A far better movie than Heston's overrated Omega Man which plumbed the same vein several years later.

I love that movie, great piece of work by Spike Lee in this flick.

Just be sure not to let him watch Ghostbusters. ROFL!

A fun thread.

I found it intresting how few mentioned what are often referred to as the "classics" that are usually found on the listings of the "best movies of all time". The Hitchcock movies for instance. Casablanca. The African Queen. The Wizard of Oz (dont laugh, it's one of the most televised movies of all time). The Disney movies. Citizen Kane. Gone WTW (overrated IMHO). The Maltese Falcon. It's a Wonderful Life. The Quiet Man. Etc.

Also musicals seem to generate little enthusiasm.

But a really fun thread.
