View Full Version : 2nd Annual Orange Mane Mock Draft (pick a team)
TheManeMan
03-06-2005, 02:35 PM
Hey guys...From what I remember last years Mock Draft was quite a success...So, with the draft being a little over a month away...I thought it would be a great idea to start our Mock Draft as soon as possible...I will put the current draft order up, and basically its 1st come 1st serve for each team...I know last year, we had quite a few guys that "managed" more than one team...This year, lets try to make it 1 manager per NFL team...Here's the this years current Draft order...I know things might change in the coming weeks but, we'll play it by ear, if any team makes a trade to move up or down...
For those who are new to the site and have no idea what im talking about, take a look at the following links...
Orange Mane Mock Draft 2004 (http://www.orangemane.com/BB/showthread.php?t=11601)
Official Orange Mane Mock Draft 2004 (http://www.orangemane.com/BB/showthread.php?t=11650)
Basically we pick a team and we take over the GM duties for the upcoming 2005 draft...we have a few rules but, once we get all the teams filled up, I'll make a repost of the rules we should abide by...
So, if any are interested, just reply to the post and tell us which team you would like to take over...We'll try to do a complete 2 round draft...maybe even 3 depending on the pace...

Can I switch to Miami's pick? My schedule is pretty busy and I can't guarantee that I can stick around for a second round of picks. Miami having only one pick works pretty well for me. Or I'd be more than happy to do both teams if no one steps up.
If I hafta stick with the Patsies, so be it. Lemme know,

We actually need one more...The NY. Giants...they dont have any 1st round picks though...only one in the 2nd...if we go 3 rounds then you'll have 2 picks...are you interested?
EDIT...I've already placed you as the GM of the Giants...if you arent interested, please let me know as soon as you can...if you dont mind the Giants, then all I could say is stay tuned...and thanks for signing up...

Ok guys...I recieved an PM from watermock with a few suggestions on our Mock Draft...let me know what you guys think because I really like his ideas...
First suggestion...Making the draft an official 3 rounds...so trades could work, and it'll be like the actual "first day draft"...
Second suggestion...(which will probably be implemented in the rules)...We need to have a machination when someone misses their spot after 24 hours. This should be taken off the top 100 but also weighed against it. For example, New England wouldn't draft a QB in round 1. You could moderate that with a couple other draftnicks like Denfan, maybe myself(watermock), (altho I'm not all that into the draft this year), SoCalBronco and a couuple others. 5 would be plenty. Also, you might move the draft time to 18 hours, then 6 hours for the draftinks to choose, majoriy rules, a minimum of 3 votes. For example, if only 3 of the 5 vote, and it's 2-1, two votes carry the day. Hopefully, you make a good choice for that team.
Third...Is having the top 100 from SoCal's post NFL Draft Showcase's Updated Top 100 players overall (http://www.orangemane.com/BB/showthread.php?t=23410) used as a reference guide...We can X off each player as drafted...
Any thoughts?? Please feel free to mention anything on your mind...And until we get this straightened out...We'll put a pause on the draft...

I think we can make this even easier than voting on the pick. If someone misses the deadline, just insert the nearest available player on the Top 100 players list that correlates to the pick number. For instance, if the team picking at #45 misses their pick and if the player slotted in the #46 (or even #45) spot is still available, that's who they take. There's no need to delay this even further with a vote...particularly since this is just for fun.

The only probably would with that is it were a position they were already stocked at. Like Minny or Indianopolis getting a QB.
I think each person should determine their team needs (or look it up on some website) and state their needs. And if they miss the deadline, whoever is in charge looks at their nees and finds the next highest rated person who plays on of those positions.
Just an idea.

Good point. I was just trying to avoid a further delay in the proceedings with having a committee vote on the pick.

in order to incentivize people to take this mock draft seriously and be ready for their selection i dont think we should go to the trouble of making picks for them. It should be just like the real NFL Draft, if a team doesnt make its pick in its 24 hours than the next team is on the clock and may start making its picks. If the next team picks before the first team so be it. The first team whose time elapsed may still pick at any time, its just that the team after them and so on and so forth may get their clocks started and also pick.

in order to incentivize people to take this mock draft seriously and be ready for their selection i dont think we should go to the trouble of making picks for them.
Although I kinda like the idea...What if the guy totally forgets that he's involved and never makes a pick?...kinda screws things up...I rather have it like mock put it in the last PM he sent me...Here it is...
Well, last time we had a problem with people missing their slots. 18 hours is plenty of time to make a pick. Then we can make suggestions, and if after 24 no pick, we make one for him. That way no pick goes past 24 hours.
If the draft moves too slow, people will lose interest. You could also move the draft pick to 14 hours second round plus 4 in the second, and 12 hours in the third round plus 4.
So it would go 18-6
14-4
12-4
In fact, you could have anyone make an opinion in those 6 or 4 hours then you could pick.
Thats a better idea if you ask me...If nobody wants to help make a pick i'll decide who gets drafted according to teams needs...I really think that 18 hours a sufficient ammount of time to make a selection...Most of us are sitting here eagerly waiting to make our selections..
I really do think we are making too big of an issue about this..I say we start the draft immediately and worry about what to do IF a team doesnt make a selection within the alotted time...

there is plenty of us here that can help make the call if someone misses their pick. Let's just get it going and worry about the AWOLers then!

agreed...it would be nice to get three rounds in, but that will take time. If someone misses their pick, I'm sure there will be people suggesting a pick. This is only for fun, anyway. Can we get Gary Barnett on the clock, now?
*edit* I didn't see that Gary made his pick... :stuck:
