I like college football in general, I don't have a particular school I root for since I went to an NAIA school.....and my homestate is Division 2A (montana...but I do root for them)...I've probably been brainwashed though, so if a team is happening to play OU, I'll generally root for OU...ugh
I live in Oklahoma...so I get a buttload of info on the big 12.

U of M is where Craig Ochs..the dude who quit CU, played last 2 years
He got them to the semi final, but didn't win it all...think they lost by 10 to the home town team.

So if the Grizz could beat CU, then where does that put kNU and KjSU?? ???
Ochs is a good kid. I wish him the best, I skied with his sister growing up as alpine racers. She skied alpine at CU, I skied Freestyle. Good family.
Oh, and scheduling D1AA schools a a freaking ripoff to fans. I don't want to see East Chicken**** Tech, ever!! I was pissed that North Texas was on the schedule last year and they have been at the top of whatever D1 conference they play in for years. Saul, you in no way, shape or form can bag on CU scheduling there first D1AA school. CU routinely plays a good OOC schedule. Like the U in Miami next (bad things are going to happen, ugh ugh!~ ) WSU, Mich, FSU, ASU, UCLA, U$C, UW, etc.

Really, which ones? Now you said a lot so there should be several right? List some names so when they qualify or not we can see how right you are or if you're just repeating some tired retoric you heard on an OU or KSU message board.
FYI there are a couple NU recruits that have yet to qualify, but no more or less than most teams........ Rodney Picou and Leon Jackson are said to be on the bubble, but both are making strides towards qualifying.....

Yeah sure, I am sure they would beat a school like SJS, Rice, Kent, and Army but that's about it.
Anyway, I am very against scheduling a D1-AA school and I don't think that a school should EVER be able to use that win for bowl eligibity.

But for the uniformed, everyone who has been here over the years knows that I am a OSU Buckeyes fan in everything, they're my homestate team and my dad is a Buckeyes fan and groomed me from birth to be one.

That's not a tough one. I have been watching college football religiously for 40 years. Have attended games at around 75 stadiums. I have degree from a Big 10 school and a grad degree from CU. I always cheer for those two, but have many other teams I really like for one reason or another. I like all of the SEC teams because I have been in all of their stadiums and they have the best fans in the country. I am ashamed to admit that I think the Big 12 overall has the worst fans (Have been to all of the schools except Baylor and Kansas). I go to a couple of CU games a year and sit there listening to the women talking about their day care and they men talking politics instead of watching the game. I went to two Colo School of Mines games this year and had more fun than at CU. I have been to Nebraska five times, but will never go back due to the way we were treated as fans (two of those games were not CU).

The only team that has been above average of those scheduled is USC. Pitt has been decent. Penn State was probably good when they were scheduled and you know NU thought that Southern Miss was going to be a push over.

I like Miami, but I have friends there that keep me out of too much trouble. Watch where you go in Miami like any other big city. Some pretty rough areas, but there is no place on earth like Miami Beach and South Beach. Football season overlaps hurricane season, so take that into account. Hope they got that out of the way for the decade last year.
You can lose a lot of brain cells on 6th Street in Austin, too. My problem with going to a game in Austin is that all of the women are running around comparing their diamonds while I try to watch the game. As much tradition at UT as anyplace in the country.
Both are great places though. You should try to experience both at least once in your life if you like college football.

Big Guy, you said you've been to all the Big XII stadiums except for Baylor and Kansas.
How did you like KSU stadium?
It was probably 25 years ago (79, I think) when I was there. Was dating an ex pom pom girl from KSU. She was better looking than the stadium. People were nice.

So Big Guy, I am debating about going to Miami or Austin next year for a road game. (I went to Seattle last year, cool stadium, great location, decent fans) Any suggestions? I like the town of Austin more than Miami, but I would like to go the Orange Bowl too.
I know how annoying "Eyes of Texas", otherwise known as "I've been working on the railroad" is played repeatedly, does the U have anything annoying like this? Where's SoCal?The Orange Bowl is an experience unlike many other in college sports, good or bad depending on how you look at things. To answer your question, there's certainly nothing repeated annoyingly like the "Eyes of Texas" or Florida State's grating "War Chant". And for a longer review;
There will be a few rap songs played on the PA system, along with the small UM Band performing at other times. Hurricane games are more of a mix of an NFL and college feeling than a strictly college atmosphere you'll find in most SEC or Big 10 stadiums.
The Orange Bowl is off campus on the outskirts of Little Havana. There are no huge parking lots to tailgate in, as the stadium is surrounded by houses and apartment buildings. You'll most likely pay 20 bucks to park in the front or back yard of one of the surrounding houses. There is still plenty of tailgating going on. You'll get a chance to try some of the wonderful and different Caribbean and South American foods that people are selling. The neighborhood isn't dangerous, as many opposing fans think. It's a blue collar neighborhood of mostly Cubans. I've never had a problem in all of the many games I've attended there.
The Orange Bowl itself is an old building filled with history. There aren't nice concourses, luxury suites, and unfortunately video replay screens. If you want to have a nice bathroom to piss in or a ton of concession stands to buy food from, the Orange Bowl is not the place to go. If you want to watch a football game with good sightlines and seats close to the field, the Orange Bowl will do just fine.
There will always be some idiots that go to games that want to mess with opposing fans. Just expect some drunken fools to make their presence known. That type of stuff happens at most stadiums I've been to, but be warned, Miami produces some real lowlifes, though the odds are that it won't affect you.
A big positive is the amount of amazing girls walking around in very little clothing. I know Texas has a bunch of hotties, but I can't imagine them doing better than Miami in this respect. And the CU game will be in late September when it's still deathly hot outside, so the chicas will be wearing white tank tops and their infamous short shorts. Yum.
Hopefully the game will be at night, because a day game on 9-24-05 will be almost unbearable, especially for the Colorado contingent. I thought I was going to die at a day game in early October vs. FSU in 2002 it was so hot and humid. As far as real hurricanes go, you'll know the week before the game if there is any chance of one to hit southeast Florida. Last year 4 hurricanes made landfall in Florida and unbelievably none of them even affected Miami. There's only been two games rescheduled because of potential hurricanes in recent memory (this past year vs. FSU and in 1998 vs. UCLA), and in both cases no hurricane hit Dade or Broward county. The odds are pretty low that a storm will affect the game, but you never know.
Personally, I'm a history guy, and not many places outside of Yankee Stadium have hosted more incredible games than the Orange Bowl. The longest home winning streaks in NCAA history (58 games Hurricanes '85-'94) and NFL history (27 games Dolphins '71-'74) came at the OB. Joe Namath and his guarantee, Hail Flutie, Ken Callhoun tipping Turner Gill's two-point conversion attempt in the '84 Orange Bowl Classic, Lynn Swann's acrobatic catches in Super Bowl X, Wide Rights II and III, Rocket Ismail returning the apparant game winning punt vs. CU only to see it rightly called back on a clipping penalty, Kellen Winslow Sr. getting carried off the field after playing one of the greatest games in NFL history in the 1981 playoffs vs. the Dolphins, Nebraska getting screwed by the refs at the end of the 1994 Orange Bowl vs. FSU, and many more I can't think of right now.
I've been to Austin a few times and liked it, but I prefer Miami for pure entertainment value. The Orange Bowl isn't as nice as Texas Memorial Stadium, but it might be better in other aspects. CU probably doesn't have much of a chance to win either game, particularly vs. Miami in the very hot late September weather. Either place would be a fun trip, though, and certainly better than Manhattan, Kansas or Ames, Iowa. :)
I don't think Texas Memorial has as cool of a view as the Orange Bowl from the west end zone. You get palm trees, downtown Miami, and hopefully a nice ocean breeze. Here's a pic I took before the instant classic between Miami and Louisville last October, a few days before I moved back to Colorado.

Great summary of the Orange Bowl Breck. Both are great places to see a game, but given a choice I would take Miami. It may be a long time before CU plays there again and they play in Austin every four years under the current setup.

I have to go with Memorial Stadium, Lincoln, but that's a true homer pick. I would love to visit A&M, Tennesse, The Swamp, and the Shoe. THose look like awesome game day atmospheres.

Nebraska getting screwed by the refs at the end of the 1994 Orange Bowl vs. FSU
God that game sucked. Got screwed all game long really. Could have won three in a row. That is a really nice pic of the Orange Bowl, though.
Heres an old Top 10 stadiums page.
