Frantz Hardy. That gives them 10 four star players and 2 more may sign by the end of the week. NU also jumped OU for number two on rivals list.

Congrats, NU can now take KSU's place as "JUCO U". Hope there's enough room in all the P.E. classes to keep them all eligible.

Thats pretty dumb there. Yeah there was some JUCO players but we needed people to replace the option players we still had on the team, but I think I'll take rivals opinion over yours.

Callahan and his staff has done an outstanding job w/ recruiting. i think he came under a bit too much criticism for his first year there. there always is a transition w/ a new coach and a new way of doing things, something that hasnt been there perhaps ever.
trying to incorporate option players into a west coast offense is tough enough. i think w/ his recruiting, give him another year of solid recruiting and they will be back at or near the top of the big 12.

That's fine, but you're class is still loaded with JUCOs. You also have 29 commits, it's looks like Callahan has oversigned because he doesn't expect some of your guys to get in. That jacks up your ranking because of number of guys you have signed since Rivals does their "overall" rank based on their point scale. More recruits equals more points. CU had the #1 class 2 or 3 years ago around November because they'd signed so many guys compared to the rest of the teams around them. They didn't end up there, but Rivals points system inflated the class rank. The closest current teams in the Top 10 in number of recruits are Iowa and A&M and both have 23, so Nebraska has 6 more guys then even the closest teams. So Cal is 5th with half the recruits. The Corn have got a great class, but getting excited over a ranking that's inflated by oversigning is pushing it. Oklahoma State oversigned in '03 with guys that, while talented, still looked like they weren't going to qualify even in late January that other teams stopped recruiting because of their grade/test score issues. I don't believe Lucky has even qualified yet.
I'd also go by the average star ranking, because it looks at quality and not quantity of the class. Looking at average stars, Nebraska drops to 14th.
One of the things Rivals should attempt to do is rerank classes around May or June and take out players who didn't qualify and have to go the JUCO route.

Well because some of those JUCOs signed early they don't count against this years total. From what I understand they go to last years class. Also Espn gave us the Number 1 class over all. As I said in the first post NU may sign 2 more 4 stars by the end of the week.

One of the things Rivals should attempt to do is rerank classes around May or June and take out players who didn't qualify and have to go the JUCO route.Exactly. I've always laughed at people either getting too excited or upset about where they are ranked vs. other schools by people like Tom Lemming, Rivals, or whoever else ranks recruiting classes. Nobody really knows how these kids are going to turn out in the 4 or 5 years they attend school. Notre Dame is always highly ranked by recruitniks and it rarely shows on the football field. Sean Taylor was a two star recruit and probably could have started in the NFL after his true sophomore season. Many 4 and 5 star recruits flame out just as spectacularly as the 4's and 5's who become stars.
I like to look at recruiting classes 5 years after the fact. That’s no fun, though, for the time between January and August where there’s no games to talk about, so recruiting news takes some of that down time.

As usual, Breck is correct. You gotta wait awhile to evaluate a class. Back in the late 90s Miami had a class ranked about No. 30 in the nation. It had a 2 star FB named Dan Morgan (later a Butkus Winner at LB, had 20+ tackles in last year's super bowl and was a pro bowler this season), a skinny track guy who wasnt even one of the top 2 WRs on his high school team which BTW did nothing but run the ball, who ended up being an All American and successful pro in Santana Moss. The class of 2000 contained the Number 83 ranked player in the state of Florida alone (pretty low huh) a real skinny kid named Jonathon Vilma. As Breck pointed out, Sean Taylor was a 2 star guy who was offered by ONLY TWO SCHOOLS, Miami and Georgia Tech. A few years ago, 2 of the top 5 WRs in America committed to Miami in the same recruiting class. It was hailed one of the great coups of all time. Know those two WRs? Didnt think so. It is Ryan Moore and Akeem Jolla. Who?...exactly. Two or three years ago Tom Lemming hailed speedster DB Travarous Bain as the crown jewel of Miami's defensive class. Bain, just a week ago transferred to Division 1aa Hampton because he still hasnt cracked the two deep depth chart. Clinton Portis was offered as a RB by very few top notch schools, Florida insisted he be a Defensive Back because they didnt think he could hack it at RB on a division 1a level. Kellen Winslow Jr. was a 3 star WR out of san diego. Jason Geathers was an all-american WR out of riveria, fla., Jason Geathers was not drafted in the NFL. Ed Reed was not a 5 star. I dont think he was even a 4 star. The class of 2001's purported best player, consensus 5 star LB Leon Williams from Canarsie HS in Brooklyn. Williams dominated his competition and was a destructive force in every post high school all star game following his senior year against the best of New Jersey, Penn etc. Leon Williams, today, is a monumental bust who cannot play pass defense to save his life, cannot efficiently read a play to save his life, is completely undisciplined, misses tackles regularly and is literally invisible on the field (he is quite visible however anytime there is a big play on offense outside of a deep throw to the outsides). All this proves is you have to wait to assess things. Now stars and all arent always wrong, in fact i would say they are right more often than not but it isnt close to being a sure thing. Not even close. Miami has had many high ranked prospects have good or great careers but there are probably close to that amount who have been busts or just ordinary contributors.

Hey, as far as i'm concerned we are in the same boat. KSU accepts D's. Big whoop. Not everyone qualifies though. Heck, we had a 4* QB from Winfield who could not pass his ACT's. Needless to say, he is at a JUCO this year. CU, on the other hand, has their own shady recruiting practices. I don't think I need to bring those up.

I can't blame Callahan for going the Juco route this year..... he knows that he isn't going to get 4-5 years to get things turned around at Nebraska. I expect the Juco recruits to taper off in the next several years.
One of the reasons for the low avg. star ranking is two grey shirt recruits (both 2 stars) and two Jucos that Rivals havn't ranked yet (both 2 stars). Even at that it's an amazing class to put together for a 5-6 team.
Oh, and latest word on Lucky is that his GPA is up, his SAT score is up, and things are looking like he will qualify.

Something that you guys don't understand is NU had 10 four star recruits from 01 to 02. Thats 5 a year! The possiblilty of 12 in one year shows the kind of recruiting power this team has and all that after a 5-6 season. Im happy that they got a lot of 3 star guys as well. Most of them are the backups or the "role playing" guys that teams need. Also this recruting class is so much faster then the ones that we have been getting under Frank. 5 guys are under 4.5 and they are at the skill postions that are needed for the WCO. We have a couple of corners that are in the 4.3 range as well. NU is losing some players as well that needed to be address and the JUCO way was the best way of doing it. Dailey sucked as a WCO qb and that JUCO guy should be a huge step up from him.
And for the Miami guys I find if funny that you don't put much stock in this but then you use a former Miami class to defend your point. I have a good feeling had Miami been number one and NU number two you would have let me know about it. :)

I couldn't care less about where we end up in the recruiting rankings. Recruiting championships are for Texas Longhorns, attendance championships are for Florida Gators, and football championships are for Miami Hurricanes (and USC Trojans :) ).

I'm sorry, I misunderstood. No, Snyder has only offered to a person convicted of manslaughter once. I'm quite sure he did a thorough background check, but this is Kansas, not Miami, FL. 1.) USC 3.93
2.)Miami 3.73
3.) Tennessee 3.71
4.) Oklahoma 3.64
5.) Texas and Ohio State 3.6
7.) Florida State 3.58
8.) Georgia 3.56
9.) Michigan 3.53
10.) Florida 3.4
11.) Nebraska 3.38
12.) Auburn 3.37

Notable: Iowa has the current #6 ranked class at rivals, but has a 3.22 average star ranking, Only 9 schools in the top 25 have lower average ranking like that.

and that'd be relevant if Nebraska was the only school in NCAA that had that happen to them. Every school that's taken some gray shirts at this point is going to take a hit in their rankings because if those guys were any good (realtive to other recruits), they'd be getting schollies in this class or from another school. The same hit will occur if they've got any unranked JUCOs at this point.
Just a little detail though.

Points go by the players rankings which gives you a idea of the class. The best 5 star qb is worth more points then the sencond 5 star qb, and so on and so on. Just because NU's avg star is less then others doesn't mean that the talent according to rivals is less. Do you understand that?

Thats what they rank the classes on. Why do you think they go by points instead of avg star?
If Reggie Smith signs (he should soon) that gives NU 6 of the top 100 players ranked by Rivals. OU has 5. USC on the other hand is sick and they have 6 of the top 100 but 3 are in the top 7.

Um...obviously we do.
What I'm saying is that NU has the #2 recruiting class according to rivals...with a good 7-10 more recruits than the rest. That's where the average stars come in for me, NU has a 3.37 average star with 30 recruits, USC has a 3.92 average star with only 14 recruits, yet Nebraska is ranked higher.

Arguing over the merits of avg stars and rankings is worthless. Lemming has NU #1, Rivals around 6, Scout around 10. The talent of high school players is largely a matter of opinion. The bottom line is that Nebraska is pulling in their best class in many, many years. Hopefully this will translate onto the field, but we can't know until these players have been around a couple years.
The north looks to be weak for the next several years. Nebraska has a chance to rise to the top of it over the next few years if they get the talent. The championship teams of the mid 90s were not the most celebrated recruiting classes, but they were great teams. I am encouraged by our success in recruiting, but will wait to see if Bill can win some more games.
