Straying from the "Bush is _______(insert any opinion here)" threads, I am curious what you all think about the Male species through education, relationships, and mostly life experience if you believe the male gender in humans are genetically geared toward being with one woman(this is for heterosexual men) or if it is perhaps constructed by organized religion through time that one must be devouted and committed to one being the rest of his life, and that is natural.
I am looking for honest, true, "how you feel" answers. Not one's to satisfy a religious affiliation.
Should make for a good discussion.

I think the male gender in humans are genetically geared toward being with MANY women. How else can you explain that approximately 60 percent of men, compared to 30 percent of women, were unfaithful to their spouses before the age of 40? Why is pornography marketed towards men rather than women? Men have a sexual drive that benifited our species at one time. It's still hard-wired into our brains. It's the same in other animal species. It takes one rooster for many hens; one bull for a herd of cattle; etc. I know we are civilized and it shouldn't be that way, but you can't ignore all the evidence in the animal kingdom. The desire is there for most men. Males can have sex and not feel emotionally involved. Women have to have a reason to have an affair. Weak men just need a place. We can't help it. :pity:

I guess you could say it's genetics. Or you could accept the fact that life must go on. Everything we do is geared to the survival of our species. It is mans natural instinct and one of 3 jobs that we are designed for.
1)Insure that the species goes on. We must plant our seed in a female to create more of our species. It's the fundamental law of life.
2)Hunt and gather. It is also our predetermined job to insure the survival of our species through food and nourishment. Man is the most skilled predator on the planet. Somehow, through civilizing ourselves, we lost our way.
3)Defense. It is our natural instinct to defend what is ours. Those who can not defend themselves die off. Natural selection at it's finest.
This is why homosexuality is a genetic disorder. Yes homosexuals. You are a weak link in the evolutionary chain. You are not genetically disposed to keep the species going.
Congrats, you are now considered a disorder.
Now, with that said, how does all of it tie into being monogamous? It doesn't really. It is a choice that is made. When a man cheats, I can guarantee that populating the world is not on his mind. It's all about getting some ass and satisfying selfish desires.
In this day in age, of advanced civilization, there is no need to "populate" the earth. It may still be a natural instinct that we carry around with us. But is not the reason for cheating ways.
I think the answer to the riddle lyes in the general question you asked. Men are different emotionally than women are. Men are aroused by sight, women by touch. Women look for a connection emotionally with a male. The only connection a man needs is that figure (a) fits inside slot (b).
This is just my opinion. I could be very wrong.

I doubt it
that pretty much hits the nail on the head
men cheat not to procreate, but to get some ass, plain and simple

Believe it or not, the shape of the human penis is a good indicator of fidelity. Interestingly enough, its got more to do with female fidelity than with male fidelity. The head of the penis is shaped to suck out any foreign sperm in a woman's vaginal opening and when a man who is with a woman has been away for a long time and comes back and has intercourse with her, ten times the amount of sperm cells are released into the woman (theoretically to give a better chance of impregnating her than any other male that may have had intercourse). All this, scientists suggest, comes back to women being the more promiscuous sex. (Source, Discovery Health Channel)
Porn is targeted towards men because men are sexually excited through visual stimulation whereas women are more sexually excited through emotional stimulation. (Source, The Learning Channel)
Monogamy, it is believed by anthropologists, was around before any organized religion occured. It is not unique to the human species either. We are "seed-spreaders", there is no denying that. It is a trait of human survival hard wired like Bosko said into our brains, but so too is it hard wired into every living thing. There are birds and mammals that live in monogamous relationships their entire lives. (Source, Anthropology 1100, Chabot College, Hayward California)
There are advantages to monogamy in the naturalistic sense. As a species, it is hard wired that we propagate the species (we being life in general, not just humans) and by having a monogamous relationship you are assured that your genes will be passed on.
I dont know if humans were meant to be monogamous, but i do know that if you care about someone, if you love someone, then your committment to them should be more profound than any other committment you have (save for those that have a religious faith, in which case that may take precedence depending on the religious faith of said person). In reading my kids their animal books, it appears most the males of most mammals hang around with the females during breeding season, then wander off to roam the world by themselves or with the other males most of the year.
My theory is that we human males have screwed up and need to hang around the women only during breeding season (late March when the only sports on TV is wood chopping and strongest men competitions) and then go watch sports and drink beer with the guys the rest of the year. I do think this would cure many of our social ills.

"Interesting Topic...Are Male Humans typically Monogamous?"
Nope. Through no fault of their own, human males need to have sex with as many good looking females as possible.

96 percent of women lie: study
From correspondents in London
December 9, 2004
WRIGGLING out of an embarrassing situation comes naturally to the vast majority of British women, according to a new poll.
They lie.
In all, 96 percent of women resort to little white lies such as the top fib, "of course you don't look fat," followed by "these shoes were only 10 (pounds, $25.55)" and "the bus/train was late."
In the list of falsehoods published in the women's magazine That's Life, "I've got a headache" ranked fourth, then came "I've only had one drink," "that dress looks good on you" and "the cheque's in the post."
Fibs about age, sex and love rounded out the top ten, with "you look ten years younger," "you're wonderful in bed," and at the end "I love you."

over population will also create disorders to make sure or try to even out somewhat of population control.... maybe homosexuality is such.
