With all of LABFs nonsense about an election being rigged it really did happen in Ukraine. My ole man was born there and fought in the trenches on behalf of the Ukrainian Insurgent army fighting off the Germans and later the Russians to defend his homeland. I have visited a few different times and I can tell you that this situation is Ukraine could have a major impact on Russian US relations.

My dad was so sure that this election was going to be rigged along with the other millions of Ukrainians around the world that we sent thousands of election observers from our Diaspora. He wanted to send my ass out there but I knew it would conflict with football season. I guess my priorities are a littel screwed up.

Since it's independence from the communitsts in 1991 Ukraine has always been devided amongst it's people whether to join the democracy of the west or stay with the commies in the east. Basically the country has a large Russian population on the east side of the country which pushed the communists principals of Russia. To those that think Russia has embraced democracy think again. Hundreds of Ukrainian democratic leaders have been killed over the last several years when they speak up against Russia.

The Russian's had their hands in this election. Infact they flew 1,000 troops to Kiev and dressed them up in Ukrainian military dress expecting a revolt from the people. So far the people have been protesting peacefully and with each passing day more and more higher ranking officials are jumping ship from the scam to embrace the real winner of the race Yushchenko. If you see a picture of Yushchenko you can see the effects of a poisoning attempt that he just recently survived.

Anyhow with Russia meddling in this election it is a clearn and direct attack on democracy and the principals of what the United States stands for. The Ukraine is rich in resources being known as the "Bread basket of Eastern Europe" and Russian is desperately trying to hang on to it's wealthy neighbor.

It's funny to see Putin smiling and shaking hands with Bush while at the same time his communist machine rolls on killing democratic leaders and fixing elections.

Latest news from ABC Ukrainian Parliament declares election invalid

Millions of Ukrainians have died defending this flag including many members of my family. I just hope that the leaders of our world can put enough pressure on the Russian communists so we can get a fare election.

Yes sir. Doesn't look like a bad case of the flu does it? They figured well since we can't kill him we will just take the election. It seems as if it's not going to work based on the news I read today but we'll see. It's a very volatile situation right now. The Ukrainians have been fighting for freedom for centuries. They are not afraid to fight if need be. I just hope this can resolved peacefully. If not I wouldn't be surprised to see some major blood flowing.

I hung out in a small village back in 1992 and 1993. I spent 3 months living amongst my extended family there. There was a group of about 15 teenage my age that was sort of a gang if you will. It was a harmless group doing what normal 16-18 year old teens do. Anyhow when we would sit around the campfire drinking vodka and the guitarist in our group began to play some old Cossack war songs I saw a change in these guys that I cannot explain. They would sing with such passion about our country (yes I feel it is my country) that tears would flow from their eyes as I knew they were thinking about their forefathers who had died for freedom from the communists as I was thinking about mine.

There is no way that the people of Ukraine are going to let this happen without a fight. I just pray that it's peaceful.

Not many people realize that over 12,000,000 Ukrainians died during the holocaust either. It's a little known fact but when you drive thru Ukraine you can't make it more than a few miles without seeing a "Mohila" aka Mass Grave. They are huge mounds of dirt with a big cross on them and there are thousands upon thousands of them.

The people of Ukraine haven't forgotten what the Russians did.

Good luck to your people Meck. Right now the news sounds pretty promising with the state-owned media turning it's back on the official state line and with the parliment expressing a lack of confidence in the election. Hopefully this bodes well for a peaceful, and democratic resolution.
