You got to pity the likes of Paul McCallum. He's the place kicker for the Saskatchewan Roughriders... at least for now. This is what happened after he missed a chip shot field goal in the CFL Western Conference final match.
McCallum missed an 18-yard field goal in overtime against the B.C. Lions in Vancouver on Sunday afternoon. The Lions went on to win the game 27-25 and earn a spot in this weekend's Grey Cup.
Shortly after the game, McCallum's Regina home was pelted with eggs, manure was dumped in front of his house and his family was allegedly threatened as his wife cleaned up.

To be mentioned with the likes of Scott Norwood and Bill Buckner, it's now time to welcome Paul McCallum to this exclusive club of Major League Chokers. Congratulations Paul, at least you'll have a green lawn next year!

Hell, back in the 60s, Bronco head coaches used to clean garbage off their porches at least once or twice a season.

I don't know who cleaned it up for sure but I know someone had to :)

Saban's house got trashed repeatedly, that I know.
Rutigliano's may have. They lived in my neighborhood, but they were good folks, so I hope not.

That poor bastard.
I'm surprised, though. I didn't think the Canadians gave a flying flip about the CFL.

The CFL has seen a resurgance in popularity up here... for some reason. I think it has to do with the affiliation with the NFL and how some ex-CFLers like Flutie and Garcia have found some success in the NFL. But Saskatchewan has always taken their CFL seriously, it's the only "Professional" franchise that they have in the province.
At least the coach came out to defend his player and attack the rabble rousers and alot of people have rallied to the aid of the grief stricken place kicker and his family.
They caught one of the fellows responsible for the manure dump and more charges are pending. I guess it's a "black eye" as some have called it, but negative press is better than no press IMO.
From the "Where are they now? file, ex-Bronco WR, Matt Dominguez played in the Western Final game. He was cut earlier in the year by the Jets.

They damn near killed the CFL when they decided to expand into America. I sweltered in the 110 degree heat watching the Las Vegas Posse a couple times before I came to my senses.
Three down football is an abomination before God and man.

I totally agree. When you have watered down talent and only 2 downs to get 10 yards... you get ALOT OF PUNTS!
If the CFL is smart, next time they expand they should keep it north of the border. Perferably expand eastward towards the Maritimes. They need more than 9 teams to make a viable league with valid rivalaries.
Speaking of the American expansion... sure was funny to see the Sacramento Gold Diggers face off against the Shreveport Pirates. Alot of imigination went into their merchandising

Yeah, Shreveport was the most hapless of the expasion franchises. I think they were drawing about 2000 a game when they pulled the plug. The Posse took a road trip to Shreveport and their lockerroom was burglarized during the game.

You know the other reason I know Canadian football sucks?
Because Doug Flutie is good at it.
