Okay. I can be a good sport about things needing to be fixed in the NHL. I know they've over-expanded. I know it's a gate take sport and there must be some type salary cap implemented. I know it's a marginal sport and so the media doesn't even mention what's going on. -- Except to let us know that the former St. Louis Blue is going to prison for 7 1/2 years. I know there are lots of bads needing to be made goods.

But...

I WANT THE TEAMS ON THE ICE.

And it's ****ty Ray Bourque goes into the HOF without anyone to notice or care.

But the real reason I miss hockey? Commercial television sucks. How does anyone find anything to watch this time of year?

You mean you're not getting enough entertainment from Lost or the various programs showcasing the talents of Ashton Kutcher?

I think I'm the only one on this board who actually loves the fact that there is no NHL around. I'm good with my healthy dose of NBA on 4 nights week, with the NFL occupying the rest of my time.

Good riddance, I say. Stay gone.

They've also got Dany Heatley & Todd Bertuzzi getting ready to head to court for their various offenses. Not something the league needs right now when they're already getting blasted from all circles.

The HOF just picked up some serious defensive reinforcements. Bourque went in with Paul Coffey & Larry Murphy, all amazing players who deserve a lot more recognition than they're getting for this momentous occasion. I still get a good laugh when I think about the way the fans in Toronto ran Larry Murphy out of town and then watched him help Detroit win 3 Stanley Cups. 1967 forever bitches!

As for the Avs, the only news I've received recently is that Forsberg is leading the Swedish Elite League in scoring and that Tanguay has a hip injury that won't require surgery.

It was snowing while I drove home from work last night and I felt like I should be listening to Mark Moser & Mike Haynes do a pregame show for a game I'd get home just in time to see the start of. I'm feeling the void.

It isn't too bad since football season is in full swing, but come January, February...I personally could care less about the NBA (casually follow the Nugs) and College hoops only captivate me during March Madness.

I know a lot of people around the country have the "I don't care about hockey, so it can go away for all I care" attitude, but I think that you will find there are still plenty of people who do care. Just because hockey is more of a niche sport than football or baseball doesn't mean it deserves to die. While I have nothing against other successful sports, I don't think success makes a sport better. NASCAR is supposedly the fastest growing sport in America. I think it's rather dumb, but I know a lot of people who love it. Just because i don't like it doesn't mean I'm rooting for it to fail. All you hockey haters can shove it.

oh, and go Avs.

I hate, hate, hate, hate, HATE basketball....I never liked it and never could play it very well, so it gets absolutely no consideration as far as sports TV viewing goes with me....it ranks with NASCAR as stuff I can't watch at all.

As long as the Broncos and the NFL are playing, they get top priority...so I'm really not missing my Flyers all that much at the moment...come the first few days after the Pro Bowl, then it may be a far different story if things are not resolved by then. I've been mildly following the local UHL team in the meantime....it'll do for now but not for the long haul.

If you didn't watch it to begin with, there is no reason why you would miss it now.

If it was here, you wouldn't watch it anyway. So I'm not sure how this issue even effects a hockey hater. Thanks for your kind contribution to the thread, though.

I think we should tie you down and force you to watch every episode of The Bachelor and The Swan, and Nanny 911, and Survivor, and The Surreal World, and Wife Swap, and Fear Factor and whatever the hell that show is where men are competing to be the best woman, and all the other crap being pushed on TV as "reality" and then we'll see if a hockey game is as bad as you think it is.

Hockey spared me from the crap. Now I cruise the channels in horror. I don't like basketball enough to buy a package just to see the Nuggets.

Sigh.

But as long as RhymeSayer is covered, tough **** for the rest of the world.

Ovechkin sent Gonchar to the hospital, that should have happened in the US where we all could have seen it.

Minor league hockey is pretty good. Obviously they're not as skilled as the the guys that are locked out, but it's cheaper to go to the games and it's not a bad substitute for the NHL.

It's better to seek alternatives than to pine away for a league that's circling the drain.

I'll be back in Colorado soon. Hope to catch a couple Eagle games. Used to see the Aeros in Houston because that's what they had. Might even try to catch a Rampage game here in San Antonio.

Doesn't matter.

I tried watching Lost a few times, but so far, I would have to rank it behind Gilligan's Island. There's not a single character on Lost half as compelling as Thurston Howell III, let alone Mary Ann.

I've actually enjoyed Lost. It's better than most any other show on network TV. The story and acting is pretty strong, and it does a good job of keeping you hooked. I had low expectations because it's another "survivors of a plane crash" show, but it has been entertaining. I can no longer stand reality television, but I'm afraid it will be another few years before it goes away. If only reality TV had a Collective Bargaining Agreement...

Personally, I wish the NHL and NBA didn't start their seasons until January every year. Who cares what they are doing right now? Playoff time is where it matters and they don't even get serious until April.

Speaking of minor league hockey, the low minors down here (is it the Texas-New Mexico League or something like that?) had one of the all-time best moments in sports. In the league finals played in Albuquerque, a brawl broke out in the stands. The commotion got so bad that the players stopped while police tried to restore order. They got the 'Querque team captain to skate over to the PA booth where he asked the fans to stop fighting because "we're trying to play a game down here". Priceless!

Is the former minor-league team that Denver had still in Salt Lick City? As I recall, they were a pretty decent little club about 10 years ago...

I know the Eagles are still in Loveland.. I might have to go catch a game when I'm home next week but Tredici is right, this really bites without some good ice discussions... Damn greedy bastards!

I am eternally hopeful for these bunch of numbskulls to get something worked out. From the stuff I have been reading in the Hockey News, there seem to be quite a few players saying here and there that they would play under a cap. Of course, the NHLPA jumps right in and makes them retract, but I am hoping this is the beginnings of the cracks in the foundation. I am probably dreaming, but I can hope. That's all I have left. I just want someone to give, I don't care who it is. Get our freakin hockey back, damnit!

A big wooohhhoooo for the Deader! I read he skated for the first time in 2 years.

In the absence of the NHL, I've gotten a following for the AHL team here, Cleveland Barons.

It is a bit more exciting and more talent is out there now that players aren't being pulled up and back down from the NHL and such, plus tickets are cheap and good seats are available(last game I paid 10 bucks for a seat 10 rows to the nets.) They also doa lot of promotion days to generate a bit more interest from the common fan, so being a regular is a good way to collect some memorabilia, my favorite being the Niko Dimitrakos bobblehead doll that I got last year(I think it's my favorite just cause I like to say the name "Niko Dimitrakos")

But still, I want the NHL! As much fun as the AHL has become for me, the speed, intensity, and overall liking for it is just not there compared to the NHL.

If he's fit to play the Avs need to bring him home. The Queens cut ties with him (and Jason Allison I believe) so he's out there in UFA limbo.

If he's healthy he can be effective, plus he and Forsberg are very close (Forsberg was Deader's best man at his wedding), perhaps getting him back will lure Peter The Great back across the pond once this lockout is overwith. Just a thought.

Didn't know they showed old Avs games on Altitude! Thanks for the tip. They are showing an old game right now - it's a game against St. Louis (Western Conference Finals - Game 5 - '01). It's nice to see Roy in net! I have been going through hockey withdrawal - so this is kinda nice. My first post by the way - new member.

Thanks for the welcome. I am a Broncos and Avs fan. Can't stand basketball - will watch the Rockies occasionally, but it's torture (I'm not sure if baseball is ever gonna work in Colorado - we have a good fan base, but the team is so messed up - from the management down to the peanut vendors! The hockey situation makes me sick - I'm not sure the hockey union has the players' best interest in mind.

Yeah, because the "enforcers" looking for a fight and the Bertuzzi's of the NHL are really great, fine citizens. And the same could be said for the NFL... Look no farther then the Lewis twins over @ Baltimore. I love the double standards. the NFL and NHL are cool, but those damn NBA players are no good thugs! Every sport has it's bad guys, but just like in the NFL, just like in the NBA, and I'm sure just like in the NHL, all these sports have their good guys too.

Yeah, all the major sports have their criminals. The NBA seems to have a plethora of them though. I should have added the game isn't the same anymore. It seems to be all about individuals instead of the team. I grew up a Rockets-Nuggets fan but just lost all interest in the NBA now.

It's horrible without NHL hockey. I channel surf in fear of coming across The Sports Network provoking and teasing me with classic NHL or Olympic/World Champ Hockey. If it wasn't for CSI and Enterprise I'd be totally lost.

The networks up here are talking about broadcasting some EuroChampionship League games seeing as there are 250 NHL players over there playing and getting paid(so much for solidarity huh guys....) I won't watch it. Those uniforms make them look like billboards on skates, not to mention those bloody soccer chants the fans do. No thanks, I have 4 OHL teams within 45 mins of my house, I'll watch them until the NHL comes back, or I snap and grab Goodenow and Betteman, duct tape them together naked and play European pop music at full blast until they go crazy or agree on a new CBA.

My wife however thinks hockey free Saturday nights are just great.....I'm learning to knit....knit knit pearl.
