Really interesting article by John Dean (of Nixon fame). We might be in for a "Perfect Storm." Given the dialogue on this board, I can see both sides "going to the mattresses."

I sure hope it doesnt come down to that , I do believe that if we lived seperate.. ie ...conservitives in Red States ,Democrats in Blue states , there would have been shots fired .... We realy dont need to pit Brother against Brother , I think Kerry has taken the right steps in preventing this . I realy dont want to see this fought in the courts , but it is better then having it fought in the streets ........

Well, for better or worse, there's a definite antipathy towards the govt, or this admin, by a lot of african-americans. One can debate the merits of it, but it's there. I doubt violence, or anything other than small group/individual stuff will result.

It's really ironic imo. WJC is right when he says we're polarized with 45% on either side, and both groups fighting for the 10% in the middle. Each side tries to demonize the other, but except for a few issues like services for the poor v. tax cuts or abortion (assuming BushII really would make that an issue for new judges) there just isn't that great a gulf.

And there I assume I'd differ with baja because in a second term I think BushII would/will be constraing not to do anymore Iraq type ****e.

At this point, Dean has the depth of a coin pool.

If there's a replay of the 2000 fiasco, $300 per person isn't gonna cut it to make people forget about it this time around.

Not sure about a civil war scenario, but four more years of BushCo economics could definitely create some "Mad Max"-like conditions in a lot of places as even more people are swept into poverty. Even the rich are starting to be alarmed by Smirk's incompetence in handling the economy.

Last time I was in Utah, I not only got a speeding ticket: the goons who pulled me over told me I was a suspected drug runner because the car I was driving had Colorado plates! They wanted to search the vehicle right on the spot. Against my better judgment, I let them. They looked so disappointed when they didn't find anything.

Talk about a weird, weird, place full of inbred jackals.

George W. Bush's final legacy as a one-term president will be the creation of an unprecedented divide in America, opening wounds that will take decades to heal. America's divisions are especially shocking given the unity of the country after September 11.

In a must-read editorial today, Harold Meyerson highlights one of the most dramatic examples of the divisive strategy of Bush and the Republicans: the enormous efforts Republicans are putting into taking voting rights away from Americans, especially minorities.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A707-2004Oct26.html

For George W. Bush, Karl Rove and their legion of genteel thugs, however, universal suffrage is just one more musty liberal ideal that threatens conservative rule. Today's Republicans have elevated vote suppression from a dirty secret to a public norm.

The fundamental difference is this: Democrats want more people to vote. Republicans want fewer people to vote, and they're willing to take away voters' rights to make that happen. If you're still on the fence, that alone should be a good enough reason to vote straight-ticket Democrat.
