I wonder?

By DOUGLASS K. DANIEL, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - Religious broadcaster Pat Robertson says he warned President Bush (news - web sites) before U.S. troops invaded Iraq (news - web sites) that the United States would sustain casualties but that Bush responded, "Oh, no, we're not going to have any casualties."

White House and campaign advisers denied Bush made the comment, with adviser Karen Hughes saying, "I don't believe that happened. He must have misunderstood or misheard it."
Robertson's comments came to light on a day when Bush portrayed himself as an aggressive leader who understands the costs of the war on terrorism, while depicting opponent John Kerry (news - web sites) as out of touch about the risks.

"The next commander in chief must lead us to victory in this war and you cannot win a war when you don't believe you're fighting one," Bush told hundreds of supporters in a farming community in Iowa, where he and Kerry are in a close race.

Robertson, in an interview with CNN that aired Tuesday night, said God had told him the war would be messy and a disaster. When he met with Bush in Nashville, Tenn., before the war Bush did not listen to his advice, Robertson said, and believed Saddam Hussein (news - web sites) was an evil tyrant who needed to be removed.

"He was just sitting there, like, 'I'm on top of the world,' and I warned him about this war," Robertson said.

"I had deep misgivings about this war, deep misgivings. And I was trying to say, 'Mr. President, you better prepare the American people for casualties.' 'Oh, no, we're not going to have any casualties.' 'Well,' I said, 'it's the way it's going to be.' And so, it was messy. The Lord told me it was going to be, A, a disaster and, B, messy."

Actually, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Bush made these comments since his perception of reality borders on fantasy.

Pat Robertson and President Bush in the same article and its President Bush who's perception of reality borders on fantasy?

Robertson didn't check the caller ID, it was God who made the statements, Pat's office got the message wrong.

I wouldn't believe a damn thing Robertson says. Literally.

The guy's an opportunist and a known liar.

"Spoke with God"?

Is this the same god that told him Bush would win the election in a landslide?

Hate that putz.

Having the ultrarich manipulating the political system is OK, in Ro's eyes, so long as it gets manipulated to his liking.

So much for Ro's principle on this issue - if there was one.

You forget Ted Turner, BTW. I don't know if he's still a billionaire or not, though.

No, I want serious political campaign reform. Get rid of the 527s, etc. It just seems to me that the GOP has been winning the money game for years, and when the Dems finally begin to compete, the GOPs get all "moralistic" about it. "Hey, you can't buy that election! I already bought that election. Mine, mine, mine, mine, etc."

Don't hate us because our evil coalition is better than yours. ***evil laugh***

True campaign reform would be to cut the purse strings and let the money flow. Everybody donates as much as they want, as often as they want. No Co. $ and have finance reports posted for full public access within 10 business days of receipt. Let the $$$ roll baby.

Robertson was also told by Jesus once that if he didn't raise some 5 million dollars that Jesus would, "Call him home". The only thing nuttier was what followed. His followers sent him every dime he asked for.

Back in '88 Jesus also told him to run for president and that he would win. If I were Jesus I'd play practical jokes on that fool too.

I'm continually surprised that so many people take such an idiotic snake oil salesman so seriously. I'd be more inclined to take a sock puppet's word for it that pigs were flying than if Robertson told me the earth was round.

No, I want serious political campaign reform.

What does that mean?

My only requirement for campaign financing would be full disclosure, available to the public. No blackout dates, no restrictions on the form and content of the speech, no limits on amounts. If Soros wants to spend $250 million calling George Bush a horse's ass right up to election day, that's fine. Just let me go to 'www.bush-is-an-ass.com' and see that Soros is the one paying for that message, not some BS like "MoveOn.org".

I was naked at the time, standing by my locker at the YMCA, and he was on a bigscreen tv, and it was scary .... I feared he'd get out that romper room magic wand and start going, " and I see ....
