USC and Miami -- not Oklahoma -- take top two spots in first BCS list

Southern California took the top spot Monday in the season's first Bowl Championship Series standings, but surprisingly Miami is ahead of Oklahoma in a close race for the second spot.

Oklahoma is No. 2 behind USC in both The Associated Press Top 25 and coaches poll. Put in place after last season's split national championship, the new BCS formula relies more on the human polls than ever before -- each counts for one-third of a team's total score after the BCS.

The other third is made up of a compilation of six computer rankings, and that's where Miami made up the difference over the Sooners. The Hurricanes are ranked fourth in the AP media poll and third in the coaches poll, but have the second-most points in the computer rankings.

Oklahoma, which benefited from the old system last season, was fifth in the computer rankings. Each team's highest and lowest computer ranking is tossed out before an average is reached.

The Orange Bowl will host the top two teams in the final BCS standings on Jan. 4 for the national title.

Christ, here we go again with this BCS crap.

Nothing will truly be resolved until we get the BCS bids 12 god damn teams in each conference and play a conference championship game.

I had the solutions for it and I want to find it, but it was the way to go with this stuff.

If anything, I'd rather see Miami and Oklahoma play instead of USC, I know they'll be crying about getting screwed twice in a row, but seriously, play some god damn teams!
VT was a fluke Pi call away from beating you, Cal was a 4th down conversion away from beating you, Stanford was a 2nd half metdown away from beating you, yUSC, you're not that damn good.

even though USC is overrated they would beat us. I would rather not play in the title game this year since we would lose to OU or USC.
Miami will end up in the Sugar (vs. Georgia or Auburn, the SEC Winner) or Fiesta (versus West Virginia, the Big East Winner) as an At-large this year. I think Miami will lose to Virginia later on in the season thereby allowing FSU to leapfrog Miami in the polls (as late losses hurt more than early ones) and since there will be three 1 loss teams in the ACC (barring any other upsets) the team with the highest BCS ranking at the end (Florida State) will be the conference champion. California will be the other at-large invite to the BCS (Well Deserved) and will get the nod to play in the Rose Bowl because of location and that Bowl games' stated desire for a Pac 10 team. They will play Wisconsin.
