Buffalo sports talk radio WGR55 is reporting that veteran Bills WR Bobby Shaw was released about an hour ago.

It's not likely that too many of you have Shaw on your teams, but you may want to keep an eye on the Bills over the next few days. This doesn't affect Eric Mould's value, but it does make rookie Lee Evans more valuable. Josh Reed has been a non-factor at WR this year (and last), and Shaw's absence isn't going to make it any more likely that Bledsoe will look his way.

With owner Ralph Wilson publicly expressing dissatisfaction with what he sees as a "boring", "lackluster" Bills offense, Shaw's release may be the first move in shaking the team up. There's no real reason that I can see to release Shaw based on his performance--he's the same receiver he was last year and during preseason this year. It looks like the initial salvo by the Bills brass to light the fire under a potentially good, but underperforming, team.

That does not bode well for Travis Henry. McGahee added a real spark in last weekend's loss to the Patriots, and showed that he may not be held to Henry's dismal yds per carry stats. The fans have been screaming for McGahee for weeks, and it may be that the time has come for McGahee to be given a real shot.

If that's the case, keep your eyes on the NFL trade deadline. It's not likely that Henry will be traded in mid-season (especially to a divisional opponent like Miami that desperately needs an RB), but keeping him on the roster while giving the ball to McGahee will create an explosive locker room atmosphere that I'm sure the Bills would like to avoid. Since the Bills don't have a 1st round draft choice next year, a 1st round offer (unlikely) or a high second-rounder from a basement team may be enough to send Henry to greener pastures...like the Bucaneers?
