You might want to lower your sights a bit and hope they both don't suck like they do every post season.
For once you have better pitching than Atlanta and that might make the difference.

Actually, I think the Sox/Angels series has more national interest. This is solely based on marketing and the fact that New York has so many people.
That's it.
I hate that fact that I follow the Sox on a daily basis and watch 90% of the games, yet when they finally make the postseason the games are played when everyone is at work and can't watch.
Just another reason to hate NY I guess.
I'd like to see an 8PM start here and that would give Anaheim a 5PM start. Then the kids could watch as well as everyone else.

Truths about this season's playoffs:
1) The Red Sox will choke, its a given.
2) Atlanta will beat Houston, cause the baseball Gods despise Alec for talking sh*t.
3) The Dodgers will lose in the first round.
4) The Cardinals will fade like the 100+ win Mariners a few years ago.
5) The Script calls for the Yankees to win....again.

Roger Clemens will pitch a perfect game to beat the Red-Sox 1-0 in ten innings in game 7 of the world series. Pedro will come in to relieve Schilling after 6 innings of shut-out ball, throw 3-innings himself, and then give it up to Roger, who will also hit the home-run that wins the game.

Boston's in excellent shape now. They could have Schilling and Pedro rested and waiting to pitch games 1 and 2 versus either New York or Minnesota. Can the northeast handle another Red Sox/Yankees ALCS? They've only played 142 times in the past two seasons. Minnesota and Anaheim still have something to say about that, though the Angels need a small miracle to come back in Boston.

It can be done, but that STL line-up is downright scary.
The only breaks you get are the 7,8,9 hitters, and Matheny had his way with us last night so they're able to pick up the slack.
Only Houston and Boston have the ability to beat these guys in the playoffs, cause they're the only teams ho's pitxhing can compensate for the bats that th Cards have. STL's SP isn't that great, so you need the pitching to hold their bats down in order to win, LA hasn't been able to do that and there's not a chance we survive in a slugfest against them. Hell, we hit 3 HR's last night and still lost by 5.
2 big momentum killers of the game was Finley popping out with the bases loaded, and Tracy not pulling Weaver in the 5th when he got in trouble. After Renteria hit him, Weaver should've been pulled, then Weaver hits Aanders on the wrist and he should've been pulled, but we wait until Matheny drives in a 2 run single up the middle before he gets pulled and instead of it being 4-3, it's not 6-3.
We're at the premier pitchers park of the league at Chavez Ravine now, hopefully that can stifle the Cards bats a bit and we can win these next 2 games, and go back to STL with the series being 2-2.

If the Twins/Yanks goes 5 games it will benefit the Sox no matter what.
So, I just got off the phone with one of my best buddies. We talked about 3 times during the game and we were on the phone when Ortiz hit the winner.
I reminded him of how we were also on the phone 18 years ago when Hendu buried the Angels with a homer.
On a side note, I'm still laughing at how Bill Simmons from ESPN said Ortiz is like a combination of Mo Vaughn, Esther Rolle, and Ghandi.

Honestly, I wouldn't throw the Rocket tomorrow. I know they will, but with his age, I'd save him. It's not like they are going to be waiting on the other series to finish and get extra rest. Maybe you don't take the risk though. I dunno, I'm not that baseball savvy. I'll root for the Red Sox to see what a city imploding on itself looks like. I want to see them win it just for the enjoyment of watching people destroy themselves (out of extreme joy mind you) and their city. For a brief moment, when that last out is made, in the last game of the world series, time will stop, and the biggest sigh of relief will escape. That is the magic of baseball.
PS...the cubs will never win until they admit a goat to the games.

Welcome aboard!
After last year there's nothing that can hurt us.
The Yankees must be beaten and beaten soundly, for their ability to come back (timely home runs, fluke bounces, wild pitches, bad calls against the other team, gift calls in their favor, fan interference in their favor, etc.) is such a statistical anomaly that it defies logic.
They need to be swept.
Being a Bronco fan you must like horses.......so, let me introduce you to Mr. Schilling...he's our horse. Get on! Plenty of room up here.

Right now the Yankees are living off of Alex Rodriguez, Derek Jeter, Gary Sheffield, Hideki Matsui, Tom Gordon, Mariano Rivera, and a huge homer from Ruben Sierra. The rest of the team just isn't that good anymore. Seeing them trot out John Olerud, Miguel Cairo, Kenny Lofton, Tony Clark, Esteben Loiza, and the awful Felix Heredia doesn't remind you of the 1996-2000 Yankees.
The Yanks better hope that Mussina can beat Schilling in game 1, because I wouldn't be too confident with Lieber, Brown (though he looked better against Minnesota), and Vazquez pitching in games 2-4. I wonder if El Duque will be able to pitch for New York. You'd think he'd replace Vazquez in the rotation. I'm so surprised at how poorly Javier Vazquez is pitching this year after watching him throw so well for the Expos since 2000. I guess the AL style baseball and NY media spotlight are too much for him, thus far.
After playing a major league record 26 times last season, the Red Sox and Yankees will play at least 23 times this year and at most 26, again. And if you remember back to spring training the Yanks and Sox played a few hyped up Grapefruit League games after the whole A-rod trade situation in the winter. I guess it was destiny that these two teams would meet again in the ALCS, or at least payroll destiny :yep: .
I have a feeling that the Red Sox are going to make quick work of the Yankees and face St. Louis in the World Series. It should be fun to watch.

Well thanks. I'm all for seeing history made. Sox could win it this year because they traded Nomaaahhh to the cubbies. Cubbies still refuse to allow a goat to sit in Wrigley so they will remain in a world of hurt. The Cards are looking good right now, but I'm sure they'll find a way to choke it off. Oh well, thats why they play the games. Oh FYI, I rooted for the Red Sox last year too. I'll root for them every year until they win it. I just want to see them win it. And I'll always root against the Evil Empire.

These were being sold on MLB.com. I went there to see about it and it said that they're currently out of stock. So either droves of Yankee fans bought them up or MLB got pushed into pulling them off the market.
Either way, Pedro really shouldn't have made that comment. Game 2 should make for some interesting fan interaction. Shirts, signs, chants, you name it, it'll be aimed squarely at Pedro.

Pedro said that off the cuff when he had cameras and microphones in his face.

Beltran is quickly becoming a favorite in Houston too (after last night he could probably run for Mayor and win). My only concern about him is he's streaky and I wish his average would gain about 30 points. But Carlos' home run swing looks effortless and he is so smooth on the bases and in center field. And he seems to be a soft-spoken ego-less man. I was really impressed with the story I heard about the way he left KC and honored Tony Pena.
It seems he's happy in Houston but who knows if more money will lure him elsewhere. His message to McLane was that if the Astros signed Berkman and Oswalt to long-term deals, he would stay. He just doesn't want to commit to the Astros and then wind up in another rebuilding movement.

Roy O pitching today. If he can go through 7, Lidge can close the game. His stuff is nasty and he has a great command of the mound ESPECIALLY against the Cards.
Then in Game 5, if Backe can get us at least 7 (which I think he can, he was pulled too early in Game 1 IMO), then we stand a good chance of winning this series. We HAVE to take our home games though, if we lose one here we are screwed. I dont think Houston can go into St.Louis for the last two games of the series and take both of them.

Astros are big dogs tonight on the money line, but I actually like their chances. I think the pitching match up is in their favour, as Woody has struggled in Houston. Houston also have that home record going for them. The only worry is if Backe can get to Wheeler and Lidge. Also those two guys will be pitching for the third straight day
Rock Chalk

Lidge had less than 20 pitches yesterday and Wheeler had even less.
Backe can pitch a full game. Garner f*cked up in game 1 by pulling him too early. His stuff was still good enough for strikeouts and groundouts and popouts. We would have won that game and St. Louis would have been facing elimination tonight had Garner not squandered Backe and went to that horrid bullpen in the freakin 5th inning.
You watch, at home, in front of his home town crowd and playing for their playoff lives, Backe is going to pitch an incredible game and we wont even have to use Wheeler (Lidge will be used tonight if we are up in the 8th inning)

Naw Clockwork. If St. Louis wins I wont care but not because I dont give a sh*t. Because God already gave me what I asked for the Astros, one playoff series win. Everything else, so far, has been gravy bud.
I will root for the Cards if they win. I told patsie I wouldnt but the Cards were my first favorite team when I was a kid (and The Wizard Ozzie Smith is still my favorite all time player).
Its funny how this worked out for me too. See, I started off as a Cards and Royals fan because I was from Kansas and my family has roots in the midwest. KC and StL were the teams that were closest to us and I grew up watching them.
We face StL in the playoffs this year, for a chance to go to the World Series. We are there at this point because Kansas City gave us Beltran. If Houston goes to the world series, and wins it, it will be because of my first two favorite teams that they did so.
I believe. I didnt always have contempt for baseball and I have slowly but surely been drawn back since McGuire and Sosa went off on the homerun festival in what...1998? Each year I have watched more and more, started watching earlier and earlier. Because the All-Star game was here in Houston this year, I began from there, the earliest since the late 1980s for me.
And I further promise not to rub it in IF Houston does win. Like I said, anything beyond beating those fvckhead Braves is just gravy.

I would also like to see the Astros win. I like seeing Beltran have his chance to shine after years of watching him play here in KC. The cards and their "best fans in baseball" have to be shocked that they got shutout with their lineup.
Both these series have been very entertaining. I hope the last few games live up to the previous ones.

Naw, he seemed like he had command of his stuff. One of those walks I thought should have been a K, but you know, thats me. Lidge did 40+ the first night, then came back and pitched 20+ two nights in a row. If Houston is ahead in the 9th, Lidge will be out again and so should Foulke. Unless of course the BoSox have another super closer to help out. The astros dont have that luxury anymore. Too bad we couldnt have kept Wagner for another year. Dumbass said we would never win crap and here we are the following year with the best shot in the teams history to win it all. (yes, its still a long shot at this point, but considering the history its the best shot yet).
Anyway, I think Foulke will be good for one more inning tomorrow if he has to come out there and do it. Great pitchers dig deep ;)

for those who are fans of smaller market teams (padres, rockies, etc..) like myself:
I am puzzled as to why most people would consider a boston win over the yankees solvent of the underlying problems with baseball. these are the two biggest spending teams by far. i know the yankees spend more, but clearly boston is just as much a part of the talent drain that is killing the league. this boston team has curt + pedro + foulke, a .300+ lineup, and pokey reese and mienkiewicz (sp?) on the bench and we're supposed to feel sorry for them and their struggles with this supposed evil empire??? i'm sick of all of these late season moves that drain the best talents from the teams clever enough to draft or develop them. boston has perpetrated more talent hoarding than new york this year and was actually favored to win the series at the outset. I don't buy the cute underdog story anymore. go national league (even though its representitives are just as guilty as the yanks and sox). just sick of the yanks and sox. way more sick of the sox though.... disgusting organization and even more disgusting national media empire behind them (gammons, king, zimmerman, et. al.). it's like this self-hating religious thing or something. go yanks in game 7 and go national league in the series. not that parity is really any more fun, but at least there is some guesswork in determining if your team can contend or not. or maybe boston should win: the patriots seemed underdoggish vs. rams but they seemed more like the evil empire against the panthers last year.

Four hours later the Red Sox at the Yankees for game 7. No MLB team has EVER came back from 3-0 in a series.

Baseball's economics may have ruined most of the regular season, as you know 60% of the league has no chance, but the playoffs are fantastic. The Bosox and Yanks have made the regular season boring to an extent, but watching them play, especially in the playoffs is one of the most captivating matchups in all of sports.

The Yankees payroll is 60+ million higher than the Red Sox. That's higher than the total payrolls of alot of teams. If the Red Sox don't pay out what they do they essentially hand the division and League championship to the Yankees. Right on. Although sometimes question whether Red Sox fans really suffer worst than most (after all their team is competitive and exciting to watch every year as opposed to small market teams), they deserve to have this on the Yank fans.
Tonights game is potentially one of the biggest baseball games of our lifetimes in terms of how it will be remembered. I was thinkng that it would eb a lot easier for the Sox if it were at Fenway, but a victory will be much sweeter if the nation gets to see the Sox celebrating on the Yankees "hallowed" grounds while the Yankee fans have no choice but to shut the hell up and take it.

Red Sox have basically gone with the "can't beat em, join em" mentality when it comes to the Yankees and the salary cap. And you do get lumped together because you even if you are 60 million under the Yankees, you're 100 million above some of the teams in the MLB.
Red Sox winning would be a bought championship as well, there can't be much of an argument when you look at the nucleus of the team and pitching staff and notice that they were from other teams that the Red Sox were able to acquire in FA or in trades due to their payroll.

San Francisco Giants $ 82,019,166
Seattle Mariners $ 81,515,834
Houston Astros $ 75,397,000
My point exactly, that Red Sox fans really can't complain about NY doing all these buying championships because if they do win, they bought one as well.
60 million under NY, but 27 million over Anaheim(who the played in ALDS), 44 million over St. Louis, and 52 million over Houston. So if Boston wins and faces STL, they are payroll equivalent to 3-4 all-star claibur players, and if it's Houston they face, what exactly is the difference of the Yankees being 57 million dollars in payroll over them, compared to them being 52 million dollars over Houston?

Like I said it doesn't matter how to me. If the Red Sox were winning all these championships with the highest payroll year after year, I'd be rooting for their opponent.
I believe you'll find most of America is rooting for the Red Sox tonight.
By the way, 4-3 Cardinals batting in the 5th.

The Yankees payroll is 60+ million higher than the Red Sox. That's higher than the total payrolls of alot of teams. If the Red Sox don't pay out what they do they essentially hand the division and League championship to the Yankees. Until they get a hard salary cap in baseball that's the only way to compete on a consitant basis with the Yankees, but go ahead and lump them together ::)
We will, and correctly so.
The second highest payroll in sports shouldn't be crying about anyone buying a pennant.

I think we all agree that the system stinks and there needs to be some sort of revenue sharing/salary cap in baseball. If the Red Sox management voted against one then I would have to disagree with them...... but to equate them with the Yankees when they have only 69% of their payroll and haven't won a title since 1918 is unfair in my opinion.
Screw it.... I'm not going to argue about it. There will be no asterisk next to a world series title if Boston would happen to get it..... if they had to give the Yankees a bit of their own medicine to get it, so be it......

Extra innings in St Louis. 4-4. Astros got one in the ninth to tie it up.

Just let me ask you this, say Houston wins and goes to the World Series and Boston wins as well, what is the difference between the Yankess having that big advantage over Boston due to 60 million more and Boston having a 60 million dollar more payroll than the Astros?
Buying Free Agents and trading for great players from lesser teams that can't afford them anymore is exactly what both teams do. The big x-factor and only thing between the two teams that seperate them is A-Rod, which Boston was going after as well.

That being said, the MLB won't go and doesn't want a cap. They want Red Sox and they want Yankees to spend, spend, spend on players and to continue to be the 2 best teams in the MLB.
Whjy? MLB would love to have these two teams meet every single year in the ALCS and have a big primetime game on the weekend between the two during the season. From when they first meet in mid-April, until the time the meet in the ALCS, the MLB just constantly cashes in on the rivalry and cashes in on the much interest audience. It sucks for most teams, but MLB knows that Yankees vs. red Sox overall will never become old and every year something new and exciting happens that keep this very interesting to all.
Parity would hurt the MLB from their standpoint, Red Sox vs. Yankees are the face of the MLB and the big money maker of the MLB. They would abolutely hate to see an ALCS involving Kansas City and Tampa Bay, or Toronto and Cleveland, just because the interest generated would not be there. Florida vs. Cleveland in 1997 was the most exciting WS I've witnessed, and guess what? Ratings fell down the crapper for that one. A game 7 that went into 11 innings didn't generate nearly the fan interest that a Boston vs. New York ALCS would've.
MLB knows what the majority wants, and the majority wants NY vs. Beantown, and they are going to keep doing whatever possible to keep parity and to keep a salary cap out all to keep having these two teams atop their divisions, fighting it out for the AL East, and continuing onto the ALCS.

So that is good? What about a level playing field?

Tough loss for the 'stros tonight. Even though they didn't 'need' the win, they invested a lot of effort going 12 innings plus.
I think the decision not to walk Pujols in the first game back to haunt them.
At least Clemens will be ready to go in game 7 and Oswalt will be available out of the pen

I'm all for it.
Let's not forget that when MLB tried to level the playing field a bit with a luxury tax, George just laughed and ponied up that dough too.
The bottomless well of money wins out - even in the face of good sportsmanship.
Face it. The Yankees suck and there's just no defending that.
