link doesn't work
did it blow??
In 1980....I was in montana...I was 7 years old. I don't think I ever heard of Mt. St. Helens b4 it blew.
There was ash everywhere for a week and we had to wear masks for a week too whenever we went outside.
I remember not going to school for 2 days, it was sweet. We rode our bikes around with surgical masks on....the things you remember.

I was 13 and in Jr. High at the time it erupted in 1980. It was a huge deal and all the science teachers jumped on the opportunity to teach about such things.

Link isn't working.
Go to cnn.com click on the "mt st helens threatens to blow" then there will be a link to the mt st helens cam.
That is the correct link but it will not work.
Actually, try copying the link and pasting it into the browser. That may work.

Ah, not random. There is a chain of them in the Northwest. Part of the pacific "ring of fire" which includes the aleutian islands in Alaska, Eastern coast of Russia, New Zealand and more. Mt. Saint Helens is actually on one of the weakest parts of the faults on the pacific coast of the US, which is why it blows and Mt. Shasta and the Three sisters (in oregon) don't.

Karl Rove is in the cone of the Volcano as we speak. He bought the TNT to set off the blast from the Saudis. They had CIA agents fly helicopters into the cone with missiles attached to Karl Roves ass. They bribed the agents by giving them two-for-one coupons to the White House brothel that Bush co-opts with the illuminati.
I shudder to think if Rainier were to blow...

Uhm ... Random?
There are actually quite a few volcanic peaks up here... Mt. Hood. Mt Raineer... Mt. Adams... Mt. St Helens.

I know, I know guys. I understand plate tectonics and mantle convection but when I think of volcanos I think of Tropical areas for some reason. The cool, crisp area of Washington seems out of place for them to me.
The answer to my question "does anyone else think its weird" is obviously "no."

I'm all for anything that takes some pressure off the Yelllowstone super-caldera.
I heard there are some big concerns in Hawaii, too. Just deep rumblings so far, but it could be a big one when it blows.

Indeed. When the Yellowstone formation blows they'll be picking up boulders the size of VW Bugs out of their front yards in Tennessee.

Watching on Fox News....we've got smoke, steam, melted water running out of the crater.
So far very a minor event by volcano standards, but there may be more.

And this has to do with football how?
Well, lets see. Mount St. Helens is in Washington, the Seahags are also in Washington. Therefore any threat from the eruption could mess up FOOTBALL there. ;)
Oh btw, the Seahags have a bye this week. Nyah!

B4 this thread gets moved i remember the first eruption in '80. my dark blue '67 firebird got dusted with ash way down in S. CO
Oyeah my first college roomate was from OR. and said the big HS graduation party in his hometown sucked cause every five minutes they had to dump their beers cause their cups kept filling with ash. Hilarious!

"The old VolcanoCam caught a fly on the lens and prompted emails from all over the world. The new VolcanoCam was not yet up a few days when this happened. Everyone just wants their picture taken with an active volcano!
In this image, taken at 8:24 am PDT, on September 28, 2004, the fly is visible in the top right-hand corner. We have it on good advice it really is a fly on the lens and it is not a gigantic fly causing the earthquakes within Mount St. Helens"
Hilarious!

I remember shoveling much ash from my driveway.
A scary event, but not as scary as Northridge.

northridge was nuts.
i was in thousand oaks at the time, which is only like 20 miles from the epicenter.
my toddler son had just come in my our room saying he couldnt sleep (thank God) so i made him a bed on the floor.
when the shaking started, i thought it was nuclear war for a sec, because all the electrical boxes blew at once.
when i figured out what was going on, i jumped on top of my son, and realized now my WIFE was on the bed unprotected and half asleep.
one of the most helpless and truly awful feelings ive ever had.
we lived in an older one story house, so other than some cracks in walls and tele's, pics, books, etc, the damage wasnt that bad, but my parents and many others werent so lucky.
lots of people's houses got destroyed (or mostly anyway) that day.
im just thankful everyone in my family has since moved back home.

Yep.
Was living in the Hollywood foothills at the time--no structural damage to the house, but just about everything that wasn't nailed down was broken.
