(CBS) For the first time, the chairman of the independent commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks is saying publicly that 9/11 could have and should have been prevented, reports CBS News Correspondent Randall Pinkston.

1. There was no real evidence of a boeing 757 hitting the pentagon. The photo clearly shows that the plane or the object that hit the building is too small to be a Boeing 757. The FBI seized surveillance camera tapes from a nearby hotel and gas station that would've caught the plane/missile impact from a better angle. They still haven't been released to the public.
2. The collapse of the twin towers defied the laws of gravity. The upper floors met no resistance on the way down. The only way this can be done is if explosives are being used.
3. The FBI seized firefighter tapes from the WTC and they declared them a matter of National Security.
4. There were huge explosions that were recorded by seismographs right before each tower began to collapse.
5. It has already been admitted by the owner of the WTC that building 7 (WTC 7) was brought down with explosives.
6. There was a massive explosive at WTC 6 right after the second plane crashed.
7. A closer look at the plane that hit the north tower reveals that it is too small to be a boeing aircraft.
8. The plume of smoke after the north tower was hit was tan/gray. Burning jet fuel is always black.
9. The plane that hit the south tower had too many anomalies for it to be a Boeing 767-200.
10. According to the Bureau of Transportation's own records, AA 11 and AA 77 were not scheduled to fly on 9/11. Due to the coverup, that page has now been removed.
11. It has been confirmed that 7 of the 19 alleged hijackers are still alive.
12. There were no arab or hijacker names on any of the 4 flight manifests.
13. There were no distress signals from any of the 4 allegedly hijacked planes.
14. Fighter jets had more than enough time to intercept all 4 of the allegedly hijacked planes, but they were ordered to stand down.
15. The PNAC (Project for a New American Century) called for a Pearl Harbor like event.
16. US forces were preparing for an invasion of Afghanistan months before the attacks.
17. The government was caught trying to bring down the twin towers in 1993. The FBI hired Emad Salem, a 43 year old former Egyptian army officer, as their informant. Salem secretly recorded the head of the FBI in New York ordering him to let the bombings take place.
18. In 1962, the US government at its highest levels was planning a series of terrorist attacks against Americans so they could blame it on Cuba to justify a war of aggression to remove Fidel Castro. It was knows as Operation Northwoods.
19. September 11, 2001 was the 11 year anniversary of George H.W. Bush's New World Order speech.

Sept. 11, 2001 was the saddest day in US history. More than 200 people were killed at Pentagon, Arlington County, Virginia.

On 8:10AM, ET, AA flight 77 departed Washington's Dulles airport for Los Angeles with 58 passengers, 4 flight attendants, and 2 pilots. 5 Al Quatta hijackers aboard took over the plane and changed its course back to Washington. On 9:41AM, ET, the hijacked plane crashed into Pentagon, across the Potomac River from Washington.

The Pentagon reports 125 staffers killed or missing, with 121 remains recovered and identified. 88 treated at hospital and one injured person died later as a result of attack. 4 staffers are still missing and one passenger on AA77 was never identified.

At Pentagon, in a normal day more than 24,000, half civilians, work in a 3.7 million square feet, 5 stories, a mezzanine, and a basement of pentagon shape building located in a 29 acres site in Arlington County, Virginia. The first day of construction of Pentagon building was September 11, 1941.

I wasn't talking about the one that hit the South tower. The one that hit the south tower was large jet, but it had a pipeline running along the belly. That is inconsistent with a passenger jet.

Sept. 11, 2001 was the saddest day in US history. More than 200 people were killed at Pentagon, Arlington County, Virginia.

On 8:10AM, ET, AA flight 77 departed Washington's Dulles airport for Los Angeles with 58 passengers, 4 flight attendants, and 2 pilots. 5 Al Quatta hijackers aboard took over the plane and changed its course back to Washington. On 9:41AM, ET, the hijacked plane crashed into Pentagon, across the Potomac River from Washington.

The Pentagon reports 125 staffers killed or missing, with 121 remains recovered and identified. 88 treated at hospital and one injured person died later as a result of attack. 4 staffers are still missing and one passenger on AA77 was never identified.

At Pentagon, in a normal day more than 24,000, half civilians, work in a 3.7 million square feet, 5 stories, a mezzanine, and a basement of pentagon shape building located in a 29 acres site in Arlington County, Virginia. The first day of construction of Pentagon building was September 11, 1941.

Remains Unidentified For 5 Pentagon Victims
Bodies Were Too Badly Burned, Officials Say

The remains of five people killed in the terrorist attack on the Pentagon were damaged beyond identification in the massive explosion and fire after a hijacked airliner crashed into the building's west side, officials said.

Investigators have identified remains of 184 people who were aboard American Airlines Flight 77 or inside the Pentagon, including those of the five hijackers, but they say it is impossible to match what is left with the five missing people.


"They exhausted all scientific leads," said Army Maj. James Cassella, a Pentagon spokesman. "When all was said and done, they weren't able to identify all of them."

A team of more than 100 workers at a military morgue at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware used several methods to identify remains but primarily relied on DNA testing and dental records. They formally ended their effort Friday after concluding that some remains were too badly burned to identify.

"Some remains were just untestable," said Chris Kelly, a spokesman for the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington. "We tested everything we could."

A military chaplain and two other officers went to Mickey Golinski's apartment in Howard County on Friday to inform her that there was nothing left to bury of her son, Columbia resident Ronald Golinski.

"It's sad," Golinski said. "It breaks your heart."

The family had hoped to bury Ronald Golinski, a retired Army colonel who was working in a civilian job at the Pentagon, at Arlington National Cemetery. Instead, they will have to settle for placing a plaque at Arlington.

"We will not be able to use a casket, because they don't have any part of his body," she said.

Brenda Lynch, of Manassas, learned that investigators had determined there are no identifiable remains of her husband, James T. Lynch, a civilian electronics technician who worked in the Navy's command center, an office that lost 26 workers.

"Considering the massive destruction of the area he was in, it's not surprising, but we were holding out hope," said Lynch, a government worker. "It's disappointing, but I know they did all they can do."

The family has held a memorial service for her husband, a 35-year government employee, she said.

No remains were recovered from two other victims who were working at the Pentagon: Ronald John Hemenway, a Navy electronics technician who was a native of Kansas City, Kan., and Rhonda Rasmussen, of Woodbridge, an Army civilian budget analyst. The fifth unidentified victim was a passenger on the hijacked plane. A spokesman for the FBI declined to disclose the name of the victim.

The Sept. 11 attack on the Pentagon killed 124 workers in the building. Another victim died several days later at a local hospital. All 64 people aboard the hijacked plane, including six crew members and the five hijackers, were also killed.

Military officials said they had been preparing families for some time for the possibility that there might not be any remains of some victims.

"That was one of the things we kept reiterating, that there would be some victims who would not be identified," said Marine Maj. Ben Owens, who worked with families at an assistance center in Crystal City. "We've been trying real hard to prepare people, but it's a hard thing to do."

For Golinski, it was a long wait. She had been staying close to home for two months, hoping for word on her son.

"It took them an inordinately long period of time to come to this conclusion," she said. "All we heard was that he was missing. That's all we heard until Friday."

Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld will decide how the unidentified remains will be interred, officials said. One possibility is that they will be buried in a common casket at a location such as Arlington.

"We want to ensure that they are handled in an appropriate and dignified manner," said Cassella, the Pentagon spokesman.

The remains of the five hijackers have been identified through a process of exclusion, as they did not match DNA samples contributed by family members of all 183 victims who died at the site.

The hijackers' remains will be turned over to the FBI and held as evidence, FBI spokesman Chris Murray said. After the investigation is concluded, the State Department will decide what is to be done with the remains.

I watched a fair amount of this - for one thing, the RealVideo file is such poor resolution that it's hard to tell what's being shown. How anyone can verify or dispute the presenter's arguments would be quite difficult. Secondly, video itself is very poor resolution - for the kind of analyses the presenter is attempting, excessive zooming and closeups just really cannot be done well with video. For example, the "what is that thing on the bottom of the 757" bit - the resolution makes it almost impossible to say.

I've seen and read enough of the "the WTC was felled by demolition" theories to know they're utter baloney; I'd just like to know how the charges themselves were placed without any one of the tens of thousands of people who passed through the WTC daily noticing. We've all seen shows on how buildings are demolished; usually it takes weeks, if not months, of careful preparation and work, even for small 10-12 story structures. Demolishing even one WTC tower would take far longer and require a truly tremendous amount of work - and that would have to be doubled since there were two main towers. Also, the video shot nearly onsite as one of the buildings collapsed clearly shows debris and pieces of building falling from high above, with the lower structure more-or-less intact. Typical building demolitions work from the bottom up, not the top down.

All in all, I've seen this sort of presentation before, and I place it well within the realm of nutty pseudo-scientific nonsense that plays to the overly paranoid and conspiratorial crowd, but has virtually nothing truly useful to offer.

The 9/11 Commission report, in the first chapter, has some details about each flight that I hadn't heard or read before. The section on Flight 73 does not lead me to conclude it was shot down, rather, the hijackers, feeling that passengers were about to enter the cockpit, crashed the plane. I suspect the data from the flight recorder and the cockpit voice recorder, properly aligned in time, would indicate whether or not the voice recorder ceased working while the plane was in the air, rather than at impact. I don't believe the 9/11 commission would have been so clumsy as to try to confuse the issue.

More-or-less demolished by impact. The Pentagon is a lot different than the WTC - the latter was mostly open space, so pieces of both planes made it entirely through the building after impact and were found below. The Pentagon is much more heavily built, and the concentric nature of the walls (quite thick reinforced concrete, IIRC) made it unlikely that large parts of the plane survived. Also, the plane apparently hit at a very high speed.

I see no reason to overly complicate explanations when standard "mundane" explanations amply suffice.

Hitting the ground and hitting the Pentagon are two different things. There was a 737 (granted, a much smaller plane) that encountered a rotor near Colorado Springs some years back and crashed. The amazing thing was the small impact area - there wasn't much of a crater, really, and the debris wasn't all over the place (a la Lockerbie). Indeed, there wasn't a whole lot of plane pieces to see. The plane that hit the Pentagon did so relatively horizontally and a lot of the debris was contained within the outer walls, IMHO. There's probably some credible analysis report somewhere on the web - I'd steer away from the conspiracy folks.

How is it that not one security camera or person of a city of 5,000,000 people managed to get 1 single picture or video clip of an out of control jumbo jet crashing into the most secure place in the United States. How is it that what should be one of the most heavily guarded places on Earth has no missle defense system?

Ahh here it is. The clip that was floating around here more than a month ago. Someone went thru the trouble to make this yet the Pentagon hasn't bothered to release 1 single pic of the Plane flying over DC. Why is that there are hundreds of pics of the first jumbo jet flying into the WTC yet nobody saw the plane hit the Pentagon. It does not add up.

Is the Pentagon air space like the Bermuda triangle? Don't you guys realize that the Pentagon has restricted airspace around it? Don't you find it strange that a plane had already hit the WTC and there was plenty of time for the Pentagon to get it's defensive systems in place? Don't you think they should have been prepared for an out of control jumbo jet heading their way? Even the air traffic controllers called the Pentagon more than 10 minutes before the pentagon was hit.

As for the Pentagon, I don't have any theories yet. There is no real evidence to support any specific alternatives to the official WH script. However, like you, I just look at the evidence and see that the official WH account doesn't hold up under scrutiny. We may never know with any more certainty what really happened to the Pentagon than we know who really assassinated JFK.
The powers that be aren't exactly known for leaving any loose ends in their cover-ups.

The only pics that anyone has ever seen is a group of a few pictures that mysteriously leaked out from the Pentagon. The problem with them is that they don't show a jumbo jet on them and the pics are dated 9-12. Ontop of that the pentagon claims the cameras were destroyed in the wreckage.

Now explain this to me. How is it that not one security camera or person of a city of 5,000,000 people managed to get 1 single picture or video clip of an out of control jumbo jet crashing into the most secure place in the United States. How is it that what should be one of the most heavily guarded places on Earth has no missle defense system?

I cannot explain the disapperance of those people on board as you cannot find 1 single picture of the jumbo jet flying at a low level in the Pentagon airspace let alone crashing into the Pentagon. Infact I'm so sure of it I will paypal you $100 ASAP the moment you post it on this thread. I'm not talking about an artists interpretation of what flight 77 would have looked like hovering across the white house lawn either. Just the thought of the 47 foot tall jumbo jet skimming across the lawn and not burning the lawn is rediculous enough but none the less I will pay you when you post it. I'm at home on a 56K line so I won't be trying to DL any of the videos, but like I said, I know of only one video of the 1st plane, that taken by the French (or were they Belgian?) video crew that was with a firefighter company that happened to be investigating a gas leak. Other than that one video, I know of no other photographic or video record of the 1st plane hitting the WTC. Given that, I don't find it unusual that we don't have a video or even a photo of the plane hitting the Pentagon.

You and your picture. Who cares whether there is a picture. Do you have a picture of a missile hitting the pentagon or a picture of Don Rumsfeld planting explosives? Two other buildings were hit by airliners that day. A third airliner landed in a field. Even if there are still loose ends (from a public point of view), it is a lot easier to believe that the Pentagon was hit with the 4th airliner that never went home that day than it is to believe that the 4th airliner disappeared some other way and that the Pentagon was hit by a missile instead. One of these things is not like the others. I think the principle of Occums Razor applies. The simplest explanation is most likely to be true.
