Players to target for 2005 Draft

As the season unfolds make your post on players that you see plaing in college you would like to see us target in next years draft, based on our needs and weaknesses.

I will start with David Green QB, Georgia

With Foster developing on the right side, why not target a Franchise southpaw QB. He has the mobility and arm to do well in a WCO. This would kill two birds with one stone as we would have 2 years to develop him behind Plummer and Mauck could become our backup: and we would solve the big need for a left OT (usually needing a top 10 pick to get one.

i like so far Rolle from Miami. but Chris Canty from UVA at DE would be a great addition and would probably be overlooked on draft day. we also have a WR in McGrew who is a big reciever but had been hampered by a injury last year. oh yea, i forgot Michael Johnson at RB for the Cavs. he has spent a lot of time behind Wali Lundy and Pearman but he is the fastest of the group and would be a very nice late round pick.

Interesting thread...

The top two I saw today were Derrick Johnson, #11 OLB from Texas. He is a sure fire top 5 pick. We'll probably see him lining up for the Chargers soon. I also like Matt Jones, the QB from Arkansas. The guy is 6'6", 235, runs fast and has a strong arm. He just needs somebody to reign in his talents as he can be a little gun slinger almost to a fault. He reminds me of a taller, faster Brett Favre.

Its hard not to like Reggie Bush right now either, the HB for USC. He seriously reminds me of Marshall Faulk the way he runs and catches the football so well.

I am firmly on the David Pollack bandwagon. A little short, but at 275 with his motor and his intelligence, he could be the next Rulon Jones. Should be available when the Broncs draft in the mid 20's.

I'll stick with NC State, but a different player, Andre Maddox, dude has been my boy since he was a soph, mostly likely be a FS in the NFL but plays a rover back now.

In the first two rounds we need to go DT/DE or vice versa.
These are the two biggest needs i think.
Here is what i think on some of them.
David Pollack DE Georgia- good pass rusher. I have not seen him enough to see how he holds up against the run. Does seem likely however that he will be off the board early to mid rd 1 so Denver might not have a shot.
Orien Harris DT Miami- this is the pick i really want and it really has nothing to do with homerism either. The Big O can do it all. He is better than Vince Wilfork because he is a pocket disruptor as well as a run stuffer. He was repeatedly double teamed against FSU allowing others to go one on one. This guy is worth moving up for. The best DT Miami has put out in the last few years in my estimation above Wilfork, Lewis and Joseph.
Marcus Spears DE L$U- I have not seen much of him at all to form an opinion.
Anttaj Hawthorne DT Wisconsin- I have been very impressed by his first step and ability to get the interior line caved in during the two games i have seen him so far this season. He can wreak havoc.

Id also like to snag Jamaal Brimmer S UNLV he has great instincts and a nose for the ball but in my estimation he will go during the mid 2nd and that would force us (even if we picked there) to ignore either DT or DE (unless shanny addresses that in FA). Moreover, with the third rounder gone it will really force us to make some painful choices and we cant ignore offense. It will be even worse if the Putz fails this year (i dont think he will). I dont like Heath Miller or Miami's own Kevin Everett. I like UCLA's Marcedes Lewis and Florida Atlantic's David (i think) Crissinger-Hill.

No Braylon Edwards love around here? He can do it all for a wide out. Can go long with the best of them and make those short and turn catches for a first down.

It will be interesting to see how early he goes in the draft. I don't think Denver really needs to look at WR in the first but I think B.E. will be a great NFL WR.

Edwards would've been the 3rd or 4th WR off the board had he declared for the draft last year. Broncos might be going up against him on Sunday instead of Reggie Williams, but he chose to stay another year.

Braylon reminds me of T.O., but with break-out speed and no attitude. He's 6"3 and about 210 lbs, has the frame and strength to be a top WR, plus he makes some damn tough catches.

Him, Steve Breaston, and Jason Avant make up the best WR trio in the country, so it's especially tough to shut B.E. down when the secondary has 2 more playmkaers to worry about, so he gets his touches and makes things happen.

It'll be interesting to see about Mike Williams in the draft this year and where he is projected to go, but Edwards very well could be the 1st WR taken in April.

So true we need help on the D line. If not the O line position. Then we'll start going for skill positions.

We HAVE to go DL, preferably a DE after the multible busts of Eason, Mitchell and O'Neil. Heyward isn't exactly Rulon Jones either.

Add in Pryce, Ellis and Johnson aren't exactly spring chickens at a spot that can see reliable players suddenly run out of time and turn off the engine.

We HAVE to get some youth into the DL. We didn't even sniff the QB last week. Yes, KC's line is damn good, but unless we are expecting the Preditor to develop into a speed rusher, getting a pass rush is the next piece of the puzzle. We are set at LB and DB's.

Imagine someone like a <a href="http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/396181" target="_blank">Kevin Williams</a> (NFL Minnesota) lining up inside. He's a beast. Move up and get a dominant DL.

Someone to develop like a Hamilton would be nice in there somewhere.

I was impressed by CB Pacman Jones from West Virginia. In one quarter vs. Maryland he had 2 ints, a kick return past midfield, and got a nice forearm shot on a qb.

Obviously CB isn't a pressing need, but this guy finds the ball. Some team will be happy with him.

Most of the things I have read about Jones indicate he will be moved to another position in the pros - probably WR.

Agree DL is the priority. I don't know much about Harris, but Hawthorne might be the only round one DT. I like Pollack who I think is a Rulon Jones type and might last till the 20's. Spears and Canty will also be 1st rounders. Dan Cody of OK and Shaun Cody of USC will also probably go fairly early.

As others have said, defensive line has to be the number one priority in the draft. It's too bad that not a single one of those DL's from the 2003 draft panned out. Quarterback might also be a worthy investment for the Broncos in the first few rounds. If Putzier doesn't have a solid season then TE will be as well. There's still a looooong way to go. I hope we're picking at #32 ;D .
