I know, its premature to pronounce Wild Card victory just yet but man, I called this way back when everyone thought the 'Stros were out of it.
19 of their last 13 or something like that, 12 in a row now only half a game back.
For 90% of the season, baseball sucks. But I will admit the drama in the wild card hunt in ANY sport is fun the watch.
Absolutely positively the BEST time of year, football starts, baseball in the playoff race, excitement in the air ;D
Carry on.

Made extra interesting this year because there are five teams in the hunt and the schedules are so unbalanced due to the hurricane(s). While the Marlins have 28 games left to play, the Giants just have 21. And with all five within two games of each other in the standings, it's chaos to figure out who's actually ahead.
The key is to look at the Loss column because you can't get back losses. For that:
Chicago 62 (w/26 games left)
Florida 62 (w/28 games left)
Houston 63 (w/23 games left)
San Fran 64 (w/21 games left)
San Diego 65 (w/23 games left)
Florida has six games left with Chicago (and six with Atlanta, Cubs have three with Atlanta).
San Francisco has six games left with San Diego (and six with LA, SD has seven left with LA)
Houston has three games left with San Francisco (and six with St. Louis)

Killer B's are back in contention...Biggio, Bagwell, Berkman and Beltran...quite a foursome...should be an interesting race for WC...Anybody but, Chicago please...

Beltran has been my favorite player since his rookie year. It was a pleasure seeing him play. The second he became a Astro I began rooting for them to make it to the playoffs.

In spring training we have Astros fans, by mid season they are nowhere to be found, now all of sudden they are back again.
Funny how that works.

Yeah DF dumbass, Im not a big enough fan of baseball to have conversations about it. I do follow the team and if you have a problem with that you can suck a d*ck. Dont worry, you should be used to it by now.

What exactly do you talk about from May to September?
None of that crap matters. Baseball can be shortened down to August and September and have the playoffs in October.

So, you're not a big enough fan of baseball to like a team until they're winning.

Not to crash the arguements but the Beltran off season is sure going to be interesting. The Yankees have been all over him since his 3rd or so season. There are also a few other big market teams that could use a nice five tools CF. He is defiantly going to cash in and get overpaid with as much interest that is going to be floating around him.
What ever he gets good for him. He was a soft spoken player that worked very hard day after day. He always said the right things while he was in Kansas City and dealt with playing on a piss poor team year after year.
I hope he leads the Astros to the playoffs and beyond. Go get them Carlos!

They need to win the WC and play the Braves, only to lose in round 1.
Look back on the 90's playoff series, everytime the Astros made it, they had to play Atlanta in the DS and lost everytime to them(think they made it 3 years, maybe 4.)
WC winner is gonna be playing STL, while Braves and HOPEFULLY LA will square off, so Houston actually has a chance to advance if they don't play Atlanta.

I don't think Houston can play St. Louis in a division series because they are in the same division. But even so, it would be a pretty good series. Let's see where Houston stands 18 games from now. Six of them are against St. Louis.

This wild card race is REALLY heating up now. There are now 3 teams tied atop the standings, with two more teams 1.5 games back.
My money has been on the Astros, since the start of the season, and I have to admit I had given up on them by the all star break. I'm not sure if they can go all the way without Pettite, but the race is very exciting right now.
What I find quite funny, is that the BoSox aren't even top of their division yet they are a shorter price for the world series than the other 5 division leaders! Could this finally be the year they break the curse?

Wasn't this thread about the Astros? lol
Anyways, it will be an interesting offseason for the Dodgers as they have a few key players up for free agency like Adrian Beltre and Odalis Perez. As it stands now, I expect LA to re-sign them, what do you think?

Ip hope so, Beltre should be this years NL MVP and he's what us Dodger fans have been waiting on for the last 4 years from him.
OP is a good pitcher, he doesnt have the W-L record to show it though because we never give him any run support, meanwhile guys like Jeff Weaver have 12 wins on the season because we tend to knock in 6-9 run a game whenever he's pitching.
Then there's Eric Gagne, who is a must to sign back.
We better sign them back, because ever since the offseason, LA has been dumping salaries in order to make room. Kevin brown and his 10.5 mill contract was traded, then we traded Paul Lo Duca and Guerllimo Mota as well to dump some more salary, hopefully in the offseason we can get a salary dump for Darren Dreifort as well because he's making around 5 mill a year.
One of our SP's needs to go as well for next year, with penny healthy, we'll have Perez, Penny, Nomo, Weaver, Lima, Ishii, and Nomo all on the roster. Alaverez will most likely go back to the bullpen, but that still leaves us with 6 starters, and also taken into account is prospect SP Edwin Jackson who has been hampered by injuries all season but would've made an impact this year even had he remained healthy. he needs to get his control up, but other than that, this 20 year old looks like a future ace.

It kinda sucks the 'Stros wont spend the money to keep the players. Beltran fits in well in Houston.
And Slap, DF, yes baseball sucks right up until the playoff race. And while I do not have many conversations on this board about baseball, there are several reasons. I do not really watch it. I usually catch the highlights and check the box score. I find the game to be mostly boring with only a few highlights during any game so catching highlights gets me all the best parts of baseball that I do like. I DO convsersate about baseball with my friends that are interested because above all other conversations, sports is my favorite topic.
Slap, also that was quite unfair of you to call me a bandwagon fan in all sports. I think I have been here enough and you have read enough of my Broncos related posts to understand that I too am just as die hard a fan of this team as you or anyone else is.
I admit I am a bandwagon baseball fan. The Astros have never won a playoff series...ever. Its hard to get up and be a die hard fan about a team that doesnt have the committment to winning that say the Broncos have. However, when they do win, I like to cheer for them. Last year when they were close I cheered for them even though they never realistically had a chance at the playoffs. I dont like them so much that I go out and buy accessories, but I do like them enough to root for them when they are winning.
The yankees win a lot, but I dont root for them ever.
And really, what do you talk about from may to september in baseball? No one did answer my question.
