George Bush was bumped ahead of more deserving poor kids because his family pulled strings with the speaker of the Texas house to get him in the guard.

If you go here:

http://69.59.167.160/

You will see videos that include Ben Barnes, the former Lt. Gov of Texas say:

"My name's Ben Barnes. I was Speaker of the Texas House when George W. Bush went into the National Guard. He got preferential treatment. I know. I gave it to him. His family sent a representative to my office and asked me to move their son up on the waiting list. And I did. It was wrong. He was jumped over hundreds of others in line. Some of them went off to Vietnam and died. I made a mistake supporting that war. And as other, less-privileged kids were going off to be killed, I helped the son of a congressman avoid combat. I wish I had not.

But I think it's time people know.

And it's time for George W. Bush to stop attacking the people who did serve."

When has that happened? Got a link where the president attacked another veteran?

Deserter Boy has been using his favorite proxy, i.e., Smear Boat Goons for Bush, to do his attacking for him. (Plenty of links posted here at the OM over the last week to substantiate this--maybe you missed them.)

Just one more example of AWOL Boy's cowardice.

Notice how AZ skirts the real issue addressed by the story, i.e., that Mr. Barnes has come forward to admit that Smirky got preferential treatment when Poppy pulled strings to get Junior bumped to the head of the line?

And the repukes accuse Kerry of not being able to relate to the "commom man?"

Hypocrites, pulllease!

Wow--one of these videos is particularly impressive.

Barnes admits to wrongdoing in using his position to get Deserter Boy into the ANG, and he apologizes to the Texas voters.

This is something everyone's pretty much known all along... Bush's family pulled strings to get him into the TANG.

Still, it's interesting to see someone willing to step up and confirm it.

So kerry is smearing veterans again, hey.

Two problems with your "reasoning:"

1) Barnes doesn't work for Kerry.

2) Barnes is admitting that he used his position to get Junior into the ANG. No "smear" here--just a statement of fact.

He not only confirmed it, he acknowledged his wrongdoing and apologized to the voters.

Even I couldn't make this up. Why is Kerry always pointing his finger? What is Edwards describing?

I think not, AZwipe.

Were it not for your obvious reading comprehension troubles, you would have noticed that Barnes, who used his office to get Deserter Boy into the ANG, is in fact the former Lt. Governor of Texas --not a "peanut farmer."

Swiftboat truths exposing and knocking down your propped up canidate really got you down huh.

Sounds like up-to-date information travels slowly to your neck of the woods.

The Swift Boat Cockroaches have all been discredited and sent scurrying back under their rocks.

Faux News has gone back to 24/7 coverage of Scott Peterson and Kobe Bryant.

Try to keep pace!

..with Bush/Cheney in for four more years...

Ain't gonna happen--no matter how many times you and your fellow Bubbas repeat the words.

Say it with me:

Maybe if you heard it from another some more sources:

Texas official regrets allowing Bush to enlist in National Guard

http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/news/special_packages/election2004/9517692.htm

AUSTIN, Texas - (KRT) - On a videotape posted on a pro-Kerry Web site, former Texas Lt. Gov. and House Speaker Ben Barnes for the first time publicly took credit and apologized for helping President Bush secure a Vietnam-era slot in the Texas Air National Guard.

"I got a young man named George W. Bush into the National Guard ... and I'm not necessarily proud of that," Barnes, an Austin lobbyist and John Kerry supporter with a lucrative Washington practice, said on the tape. "It was the worst thing I did, was help a lot of wealthy supporters and a lot of people who had family names of importance get into the National Guard. And I'm very sorry of that and I'm very ashamed, and I apologize to you as the voters of Texas."

Barnes could not be reached for comment Friday.

The apology adds a new layer to a role Barnes acknowledged in 1999. During Bush's first presidential run, Barnes confirmed in a written statement that he had, at the request of a Bush family friend, contacted a Guard official to ask that Bush be allowed to enlist. The statement came after The Dallas Morning News revealed the sequence of events.

Bush and his family said they never requested any such help from Barnes, and Barnes has never said the Bushes contacted him about the matter.
