Kerry joined an inactive naval reserve unit that happened to get called up, Bush the air national guard. Kerry proved to the men around him that he did not have the character to be trusted in battle, that he had another agenda(that he dispalyed there and when he returned and they got him out of there. Doesn't matter. The bottom line is that Kerry went to Viet Nam, proved himself in combat, and was decorated accordingly while Deserter Boy avoided Viet Nam altogether and went AWOL from the cushy ANG his father and Lt. Governor Barnes pulled strings to get him into.
